Draft Scout College Football Player News

Last week, just as Michigan's football team was getting ready to put on the pads, Don Brown acknowledged the need to find a second starting cornerback. Ambry Thomas has departed to begin preparing for the NFL draft, forcing the Wolverines to turn to a group of inexperienced underclassmen. Brown, Michigan's defensive coordinator, on Monday revealed the early frontrunner during an interview on the "Inside Michigan Football" radio show. "I think Gemon Green's done a good job there," Brown said. "I would say he's probably the leader in the clubhouse right now."

Green, a redshirt sophomore from DeSoto, Texas, appeared in 11 games last season. Most of his time was spent on special teams, where he racked up five tackles. But the 6-foot-2, 181-pound Green has the early lead over D.J. Turner and Jalen Perry, two others up for the starting role. "Gemon Green's really played well," Brown said. "He's a guy that's been with us for a period of time. Always had the athletic ability. Conceptually, he's kind of put it all together so we feel really good about him." - Ann Arbor News
