2021 SENIOR BOWL WATCH LIST: Corey Sutton, Appalachian State,...With three players included in Thursday's announcement, App State tied for the most selections among in-state programs and tied for the second-most among Group of Five programs, trailing jus t UCF. In recent years, the Reese's Senior Bowl has released a watch list with nearly 500 players, but given the current health climate, it was trimmed this year to a Top 250 format. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Sutton heads into his senior year tied for fift h place in App State history with 17 career TD catches (in just 22 games). Wide receiver T.J. Vasher was back on the practice field in uniform Friday, a source confirmed, four days after Tech coach Matt Wells said the senior from Wichita Falls Rider continued to be diverted from football workouts to taking care of academic resp onsibilities. Vasher suggested in a tweet early Friday that he had accomplished what he needed. "Pulled it off. Catch y'all between the lines," he wrote. A former Alabama linebacker is now part of a different in-state program. Markail Benton recently joined the team at Jacksonville State, a team spokesman confirmed to AL.com. A former four-star recruit, Benton posted 19 tackles as a redshirt sophomore at Alabama last season. He went into the NCAA transfer portal in June. - Birmingham News

Defensive coordinator Pete Golding on Thursday evening left little room for doubt that Jobe would remain as a starter in 2020. "I think the big thing in this conference and within this defense, we need to have two corners that can lock it down," he said, "And I think that's something that Patrick [Surtain] and Josh should be able to do for us and they've done well up to this point."Jobe, rated as a four-star prospect and No. 109 nationally by 247 Sports in 2018, was a rare New England recruit by Alabama. He played his final season of high school football at Chesire Academy in Connecticut after moving from Miami. After limited defensive playing time in 2018, Jobe made his first start in last season's opener against Duke as a fifth defensive back. Charles Snowden, Noah Taylor and Zane Zandier may all land on NFL rosters in the next year or two. Rob Snyder returns from injury, and Nick Jackson is a budding star at the position. The position group is stacked, and it's also filled with leaders. No Ca valier leads more than Snowden. "You really want to look up to somebody like that," Taylor said of his teammate, "because there's a lot of guys that will talk a lot of stuff and then they don't go ahead and do it, but Charles will be dead tired and telli ng other people, 'Let's go' and then go ahead and be the first one on the next rep." A vocal leader, Snowden backs up his words with action. He finished the 2019 season with 72 tackles, including 11 tackles for loss. Everything was on track for Dylan Moses a year ago as the junior linebacker prepped for his statement season. All-American hype came with Butkus Award talk and a sure first-round pick should he leave early. Everything changed Aug. 27, just days before op ening the season with Duke in Atlanta. A torn ACL on Tuesday of game week sent a shock through a Crimson Tide defense that would be decimated by injuries all season. So, instead of participating in his first NFL training camp, Moses is back in Tuscaloosa for a senior season few predicted this time last August. The Baton Rouge product is again healthy and itching for redemption in this unconventional season.At times, Moses admits, he might have been too eager to get back out there. "I was trying t o rush my process, but my body kept telling me no," Moses said Tuesday. "As time went on and I got more and more strong there were times I would go out on the field without a brace. And I feel great." There's no hesitation to test the knee two practices into his return. "I don't think about it, don't have any second thoughts or do second guessing when I'm on the field," he added. "I actually feel really good. UL senior linebacker Ferrod Gardner, still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, should soon resume full contact, Ragin' Cajuns coach Billy Napier said when addressing media members during a Tuesday teleconference. Napier said Gardner has been enga ging in some contact drills but is "not 100 percent cleared for contact yet." The Cajuns "anticipate him getting cleared for...full-go contact here soon," the Cajuns coach added. Napier did not mention Gardner as being among the injured when camp opened earlier this month and had not disclosed that he was not fully participating until he was asked Tuesday.Granted a sixth season of eligibility for 2020, Gardner - a Missouri walk-on redshirt in 2015 who is projected to again start at the Will insid e linebacker position for UL - opened 12 of the 13 games he played last year and finished with 47 total tackles. Going into the 2020 season, one of the key story lines surrounding the Texas Tech football team is how well quarterback Alan Bowman bounces back from two seasons shortened by injuries. At the moment, that might be a secondary consideration to who will be his most battle-tested receiver. Ten days into preseason practice, T.J. Vasher remains sidelined and diverted mostly to working on academics. On Monday, Matt Wells characterized Vasher as "still out" and said his participation on the field has been limi ted to early walk-throughs. Asked by A-J Media if Vasher's eligibility is a concern, the Tech coach said, "He needs to take care of his academics, just like everybody else." Tech started practice on Aug. 7, which was the last day of final examinations fo r the university's summer II session. Several OU players are out with injuries, OU coach Lincoln Riley announced Saturday. Riley said senior linebacker Caleb Kelly, redshirt freshman defensive lineman Marcus Hicks and sophomore receiver Cason Grant have incurred injuries through fall camp. J ustin Harrington, an incoming junior college transfer, is also injured, but Riley noted he suffered the injury prior to his arrival to campus. "Caleb Kelly, Cason Grant, Marcus Hicks and Justin Harrington have all had some lower-extremity injuries that r equire medical attention," Riley said during a Zoom video conference. "Those guys will all miss a substantial part of the season." Kelly, a former Rivals.com five-star prospect, missed most of last season from an injury sustained during OU's 2019 spring practices. He has played in 41 games over four seasons since 2016. College athletes would get a cut of the millions of dollars generated by the National Collegiate Athletic Association under proposed legislation announced Thursday by a group of Democratic senators. The "College Athletes Bill of Rights" would allow playe rs to earn money from marketing their names, Images and likenesses, and give them a share of the $15 billion intercollegiate sports industry. The proposal also would require standards for health and safety, take steps to ensure that athletes get a colle ge education and are able to graduate from their schools, help athletes pay their medical bills and other expenses incurred from sports-related injuries as well as any illnesses from the coronavirus, and remove penalties for athletes wishing to transfer to another school.It also provides for a panel of athletes, administrators and others to set rules for college sports. The proposal came as some colleges have abandoned plans to play intercollegiate sports this fall due to the pandemic. The Big Te n, Pac-12, and Big East all have canceled their fall seasons. The senators, who include Cory Booker, a former Stanford University football player, and Kamala Harris, running for vice president this fall, said they formally would introduce legislation lat er this year. - Star Ledger

With the health and well-being of its student-athletes as its top priority, the Big South Conference announced today it is delaying its fall sports seasons with the intent of playing in the spring. This includes the sports of men's and women's cross coun try, football, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball. Additionally, fall competitions in the sports of men's and women's golf and men's and women's tennis, and out of season competitions in spring sports have been suspended as well. But as South Carolina heads into the next phase of preseason football practice, the Gamecocks appear to be in a good place.
