09/09/20 - RB Harry Trotter, Sr/2021, Kansas State + More +   In the midst of challenges created by the coronavirus pandemic, Harry Trotter has had to get creative at times to stay healthy and maintain his workout routine. When many businesses - gyms among them - shut down earlier this year, Trotter resorted to using what was available. Hills. Sand pits. "Whatever you can find," he said, "to get some extra work in." Trotted acknowledged it wasn't always easy. Half the battle simply was making sure he didn't let the circumstances dictate his attitude. "It was difficult some days, but just staying positive, making the best (of it) and just trying to work as hard as you can all offseason is something I take a lot of pride on," he said. "Just trying to be as responsible as I can because, being a senior and with the position I'm in, I know I have to be responsible and held accountable for everything that I'm going to be taking part of." All the time and energy he's put in since the end of last season boiled down to one reality: Trotter likely will be Kansas State's starting running back this fall. Last season, he was part of a three-man, upperclassmen rotation along with seniors (and graduate transfers) James Gilbert and Jordon Brown. Gilbert ended up becoming the primary option, leading the Wildcats' running backs in carries (141), rushing yards (737) and rushing touchdowns (six). Brown was next in line, with 380 yards and four scores on 84 attempts. Clemson is hoping to get Thomas back for a portion of this season after he battled COVID-19 and strep throat this summer. Ross and Price are both out for the year after suffering season-ending injuries. Starting defensive end Justin Foster and backup running back Lyn-J Dixon are among the other players who missed time during fall camp. Their status for this weekend has yet to be revealed. 09/07/20 - QB JT Daniels, rSr/2024, Rice + More +   Georgia scrimmaged Saturday four days after its leading contender for the job, Wake Forest graduate transfer Jamie Newman, changed everything by informing coach Kirby Smart on a day off from practices that he was opting out of the season, something that became public the next day. That has offered an opportunity for redshirt freshman D'Wan Mathis to push Southern Cal transfer JT Daniels for the No. 1 job, but Mathis started slow in the second preseason scrimmage at Sanford Stadium by throwing a pair of interceptions. Daniels didn't zoom way ahead of Mathis either on a day when both worked with the No. 1 unit, according to Smart. "It almost feels like you really want the guys to assume the lead, take the lead and that hasn't happened yet," Smart said. "You're liable to have a great play or a great series and come back with a boneheaded mistake or a turnover. Nobody has really just taken charge and taken over. I wish I could say that." Newman pulled the plug on his time as a Bulldog 235 days after announcing he was headed to Georgia. Smart didn't elaborate much on the decision. "We're moving forward," Smart said. "We respect Jamie, I respect Jamie. He's done a tremendous job. I respect any kid that chooses to opt out." 09/05/20 - CB Myles Jones, rSr/2024, Duke + More +   Cornerback was one of the Texas A&M football team's most experienced positions, but now the Aggies could use a newcomer or two to have a big season after projected starter Elijah Blades opted out of the season. Blades was one of just two players on the roster with starting experience at cornerback. Senior Myles Jones has 21 career starts, including 15 straight. "Myles Jones has led that group at the corners," A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher said on a Zoom conference call Thursday. "I think he's playing really well, running well and probably is in the best shape he's been in." During a Zoom conference call on Aug. 22, Fisher alluded to Blades getting back on the field, but the 6-2, 180-pounder took to Twitter on Monday night to announce he'd sit out the season.
