Former Texas A&M defensive lineman Anthony Lucas has committed to USC. Lucas, a former five-star recruit in the Top247 rankings for the Class of 2022, will have three years of eligibility and joins the Trojans as a true sophomore. The 6-6, 270-pound Chap paral High School product and Scottsdale (Ariz.) native had 10 tackles and one tackle for a loss this past season.Lucas is an NFL prototype player who will have immediate impact on the USC defense and should start for the next two seasons. In 2023 he will play alongside another former five-star recruit, Korey Foreman. Lucas was a member of Texas A&M's historic 2022 recruiting class that ranked No. 10 all time, but the Aggies and Jimbo Fisher have now lost Chris Marshall at wide receiver to Ole Mi ss and Denver Harris at cornerback to LSU. Former Liberty linebacker Mike Smith committed to Baylor on Tuesday after former North Texas tight end Jake Roberts committed to the Bears on Monday night. As a fourth-year junior, Smith led Liberty with 85 tackles in 2022 with 10 for loss, three forced fumbles and an interception. Utah Utes tight end Brant Kuithe will be returning once again. Kuithe announced on social media Monday morning that he will play for the Utes in 2023 instead of entering his name in April's NFL draft. The news comes as Kuithe, Utah's most important recei ving target, played in just four games in 2022 after he tore his ACL Sept. 24 against Arizona State.Kuithe returned to the Utes in 2022 after it appeared he could have been a relatively high draft pick last spring. The 2023 season will be Kuithe's fifth as a Ute. A native of Katy, Texas, the 6-foot-2, 219-pounder was named to the All-Pac-12 second team for three consecutive seasons from 2019-2021 before getting hurt this fall. Rutgers has added a potential starter along the defensive line via the transfer portal. Defensive tackle Isaiah Iton, a transfer out of Ole Miss, committed to head coach Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights on Sunday, the final day of his official visit to Piscataway this weekend. The 6-foot-2, 290-pound tackle chose Rutgers over offers from Mississippi State, Maryland, Arkansas and Texas A&M. Iton has one year of eligibility remaining. Less than a week after losing one former five-star recruit from its defensive line, Kentucky football has found a new former five-star prospect for the position. North Carolina transfer defensive tackle Keeshawn Silver, who was ranked as the No. 31 prosp ect in the high school class of 2021 by the 247Sports Composite, committed to Kentucky on Sunday after an official visit to campus. While Silver was considered one of the best prospects in his high school class as a five-star recruit, he totaled just fou r tackles in two years at North Carolina.At 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, Silver looks the part of an SEC defensive lineman, but he has work to do to cash in on his immense recruiting hype. Kentucky will hope he can develop into a rotation piece a line that is on track to return five of its top six players, led by freshman All-American defensive tackle Deone Walker. Silver is not a like-for-like replacement for nose guard Justin Rogers, a former five-star recruit who started every game in 2022 for UK before entering the transfer portal next season, but if he develops into a contributor at tackle, it would allow Kentucky to play Walker more at nose guard. When Immanuel Bush stepped off the charter bus with the rest of his Marshall teammates before the Thundering Herd's game at James Madison in late October, he didn't know what to expect. It was Marshall's first time playing at Bridgeforth Stadium in progr am history, so that feeling was palpable around most of the Thundering Herd. But when Bush took to the field, he had a career-best afternoon, posting 1.5 sacks while using his 300-pound frame and strength to push past the JMU offensive line in what the d efensive lineman called the "funnest game that I played in all year." "It just felt like that's what college football is supposed to be," Bush said. "From the fans to the game, there wasn't any dirtiness from JMU players or us. That's the kind of game th at I think college football should be like."Fast forward a few months, and after less than 30 days in the transfer portal, Bush announced his commitment to JMU on Sunday - becoming the 10th transfer to commit to the Dukes for the fall - with three years of eligibility remaining. The Lancaster, S.C., native is the second Marshall defensive lineman to transfer to JMU in the past two seasons. Mazi Smith, the big, physical tackle who commanded plenty of attention from opposing offenses the last couple of years, has decided to leave school and go pro. The Michigan defensive tackle will forego his remaining eligibility and declare for the 2023 N FL Draft, according to a Monday afternoon report from ESPN's Adam Schefter. Smith, a consensus first-team all-Big Ten defensive lineman, has not yet announced announced his decision publicly - but Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter acknowledged the news Monday, writing on social media: "Go be great Mazi!"The move doesn't come as a big surprise. Asked about his future after Michigan's loss to Texas Christian in the Fiesta Bowl, Smith sounded conflicted and told MLive he needed to solicit advice from his mother. The 6-foot-3, 337-pound Smith posted a career-high season in 2022, totaling 48 tackles (2 1/2 for a loss), half a sack and a forced fumble in 14 starts. Texas A&M senior tight end Max Wright will return for a sixth season, making the announcement via social media Monday. Wright, the team's Aggie Heart Award winner this season, nine receptions for 129 yards with a touchdown, battling through injuries. The former defensive lineman, who has played in 40 games, appeared in 13 games as a freshman in 2018, mostly on special teams. He redshirted in '19 after playing in three games and getting injured. Auburn's latest transfer portal addition is a former All-American and 1,000-yard rusher. Former South Florida running back and return specialist Brian Battie committed to Auburn on Monday afternoon after taking a visit to the Plains during the weekend. B attie is the ninth transfer addition for first-year coach Hugh Freeze and the second of the day for Auburn, which added Cincinnati wide receiver transfer Nick Mardner earlier Monday afternoon.Battie joins an Auburn backfield that returns second-le ading rusher Jarquez Hunter but must replace leading rusher Tank Bigsby. The Tigers also return sophomores Damari Alston and Sean Jackson, and they hold a commitment from four-star 2023 back Jeremiah Cobb, who is expected to sign in February. Battling a sprained knee, standout TCU running back Kendre Miller will be a game-time decision against Georgia in the College Football Playoff title contest on Monday. Miller suffered the injury in the first half against Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl. Whil e he told reporters Saturday that he was improved and that it will be a 50-50 decision, he did not actively participate in the Horned Frogs walk-through after media day."We'll continue to try to see where he's at," TCU coach Sonny Dykes said. Utah quarterback Cameron Rising is returning after considering a jump to the NFL. The school announced Monday that Rising will be back as a sixth-year senior in 2023 after leading the Utes to consecutive Pac-12 titles. Rising was a semifinalist for the D avey O'Brien and Maxwell awards after throwing for 3,034 yards and 26 touchdowns with eight interceptions. The Ventura, California, native was named MVP of the Pac-12 Championship game after leading the Utes to a 47-24 win that knocked USC out of the Col lege Football Playoff.Utah played in the Rose Bowl the past two seasons, falling short in both after Rising went down with injuries. He suffered a left leg injury and had to leave in the third quarter of this year's game, which the Utes lost 35-21 to Penn State. It was a busy Sunday for Troy University Football as five offensive linemen from around the country announced their intentions to transfer to the school. The five include Oklahoma State center Eli Russ, Tennessee State offensive tackle, Blake Austin, Ten nessee State offensive guard Tavon Matthews, Birmingham Southern center Braylun Smith and Georgia Military College center Boaz Stanley. Russ is a 6-foot-4-inch, 310-pound Ardmore, Okla., native that was an All-State offensive lineman at Plainview High Sc hool. Russ earned the bronze in the State Shot Put as a senior in high school, as well.Russ played in 16 total games at OSU - including nine this past season - and will have three years of eligibility left. He was a three-star lineman coming out o f high school and originally signed with OSU over offers from other schools like North Texas, Texas, Tulsa and others. Austin is a 6-foot-4-inch, 285-pound Johnson City, Tenn., native started at left tackle for ETSU this season. He also started all 13 ga mes in 2021 and started three games in 2020.
