Cam Fancher threw for two touchdowns and Marshall held off UConn's second-half rally to close the season with a fifth straight win, 28-14 in the Myrtle Beach Bowl on Monday. The Thundering Herd (9-4) seemingly had things in hand, ahead 28-0 after Raseen Ali's 2-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter. But the Huskies rallied with 14- and 24-yard TD runs by Victor Rosa and, after an interception, drove into Marshall territory with 10 minutes to play. That was as close as UConn (6-7) could get in its first postseason appearance since 2015. Fancher finished 10-of-20 passing for 93 yards, including a 9-yard scoring pass to Corey Gammage and a 10-yard TD toss to Devin Miller, as Marshall led 21-0 at the half. Ali ran for 92 yards and Khalan Laborn 90 as Marshall put up 210 yards rushing. Marshall had one of the season's most surprising victories, winning at No. 19 Notre Dame, 26-21, in September. It ended the regular season as one of college football's hottest teams and posted its most victories in a season since winning nine games in 2018.

The Herd also ended a three-game bowl losing streak dating to that same season. Not that UConn didn't make it interesting down 28-14. The Huskies got to Marshall's 42, and when receiver Keelon Marion was bumped on a long pass by defensive back Steven Gilmore without a penalty flag, first-year coach Jim Mora Jr. argued loudly and drew his own 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct flag that stalled the drive. Two series later, UConn drove to Marshall's 8, but Turner was picked off in the end zone by Micah Abraham with 5:09 to go. Turner was 9 of 27 passing for 166 yards with three interceptions and a fumble. The Herd took advantage of UConn mistakes to build their lead. After Marshall fumbled the ball away in UConn territory in the opening quarter, Turner fumbled it back on the next play. That led to Gammage's scoring catch. Later in the first period, Turner threw a pick-6 that defensive lineman Damion Babers Jr. caught cleanly and carried 34 yards to the end zone for a 14-0 lead. Marshall followed up UConn's field goal miss in the second quarter with a long scoring drive that ended with Miller's scoring catch. - Marshall/AP College Football

2022 ALL-SUN BELT CONFERENCE FOOTBALL THIRD TEAM: LB - JT Killen, Coastal Carolina (RS Jr., LB - Lake Wylie, S.C.),...Killen picked up his first all-conference honor this season after sitting behind All-Sun Belt linebackers Silas Kelly and Teddy Gallagher for three years. Killen has made his mark this year in leading the CCU defense, as he has a team-high 89 total tackles and ranks in the top five on the team in tackles-for-loss (6.0), sacks (2.5), and pass breakups (4) while also adding two quarterback hurries, a forced fumble, and a team-high three fumble recoveries.

He ranks eighth in the Sun Belt in total tackles (89) and fourth in assisted tackles (62), as he is always around the football. His three fumble recoveries are tops in the league. Killen has recorded double-digit tackles in three games on the year, with a career-high 13 in the road win at ULM (Oct. 8), and 10 stops in wins at home over Buffalo (Sept. 27) and Southern Miss (Nov. 12). He has totaled five tackles or more in every game this year, showing consistency. He has also been key in helping the defense hold six different opponents to under 100 rushing yards for the game, including four conference opponents in Georgia State, Marshall, App State, and Southern Miss. - Coastal Carolina Football

Matt Salerno's 1-yard reception for his first career touchdown was one of the feel-good moments of Notre Dame's Senior Day thrashing of Boston College. Four weeks after that long-awaited end zone visit, the former walk-on wide receiver/punt returner has decided maybe it shouldn't be his last. The Valencia, Calif., product announced via social media on Friday evening that he would "run it back" for a sixth season with the Irish. A COVID-year waiver for those who played in 2020 made that possible.

All-America long snapper Michael Vinson recently announced he would return as a sixth-year super senior in 2023 as well. Reserve kicker Chris Salerno, Matt's brother, is a sophomore walk-on for the Irish. The elder Salerno, who has five catches for 62 yards this season, produced half of that yardage with an acrobatic grab as he fell backward in the season-opening loss at Ohio State. "Matt is a guy that we have a ton of trust in," offensive coordinator Tommy Rees said on Nov. 22. "He's in there in critical moments. He's in there with roles that are critically important. He's tagged on stuff to make sure he's in. He's done a lot of the dirty work for us and been in critical spots and he's worked extremely hard to deserve the opportunity to be out there playing." - South Bend Tribune

Tuli Tuipulotu, the Pac-12's defensive player of the year, said he's still undecided on whether he'll declare for the draft. But the defensive lineman had no doubts about playing at least one more game for USC. "I'm for sure playing in the bowl game," Tuipulotu said. "Can't leave my brothers out there." After leading the nation in sacks (12.5), it's unlikely that Tuipulotu's draft stock would rise much higher with another season at USC. But he said he would weigh a return to USC against his NFL potential after the Trojans play Tulane in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 2. "That's something I've got to consider," Tuipulotu said, when asked about the NFL. "But I'm just focusing on the game. When the time comes to make the decision, I'll make the decision." - Los Angeles Times
