Hendon Hooker threw for 156 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 75 yards to lead Tennessee to a 45-21 season-ending Southeastern Conference victory over Vanderbilt Saturday. Jabari Small rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns as the Volunteers (7-5, 4- 4) grabbed bragging rights over their intrastate rival Commodores (2-10, 0-8). Tennessee receiver Cedric Tillman caught six passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns, After taking a hit on an option play, Hooker left the game with 8:03 left in the fourth q uarter holding his left hand. He was replaced by Joe Milton.The Vols and their high-octane offense had their six scoring drives total 11 minutes, 26 seconds time of possession. Commodores quarterback Mike Wright collected 198 passing yards and a T D. Rocko Griffin rushed for 104 yards and a score. Vanderbilt waited until the last play of the first half for its only highlight. Down 24-0, Wright heaved a desperation pass 56 yards and, with three Vols around him, Will Sheppard hauled it in in the end zone. Hassan Haskins scored five touchdowns and Aidan Hutchinson had three sacks, helping No. 6 Michigan finally beat No. 2 Ohio State 42-27 Saturday to give Jim Harbaugh his first win as a coach against the Buckeyes. The Wolverines clinched the Big Ten East a nd will play in the conference title game next week with playoff hopes in hand. Michigan (11-1, 8-1 Big Ten, No. 5 CFP) advanced to the conference championship for the first time. The Wolverines now have a chance to win a Big Ten title for the first time since 2004 and a national championship for the first time since 1997. Minutes after the game, long-suffering fans filled the Big House turf to celebrate a rare win in the storied series and they were in no rush to leave as music blared. Ohio State had w on a school-record eight straight in the rivalry and 15 of 16 to turn The Game into its game.The Buckeyes (10-2, 8-1) blew their chances to continue their dominance with 10 penalties, many before the snap, and because they simply could not stop Mi chigan's running game. Harbaugh clearly had his team ready to beat the Buckeyes. After Harbaugh's pay was slashed in his new deal last winter in part because of his lack of success against the Buckeyes, he reshaped his coaching staff again and renamed a running-heavy period of practice the “Beat Ohio,” drill for to add another layer of focus on the rivalry. It seemed to work. Haskins had 169 yards rushing on 28 carries, scoring a go-ahead touchdown late in the second half and four more after halftim e to pad Michigan's lead. Blake Corum returned from a two-plus game absence to run six times for 87 yards, helping the Wolverines gain a total of 297 yards on a ground against a rival that has pushed them around for much of this century. Losing a couple of early season games was far from the most difficult thing Utah had to overcome to get back to the Pac-12 title game. "We've taken probably the hardest thing that can happen and we've turned it into something beautiful," receiver Britain Covey said after Senior Day victory against Colorado on Friday. Cameron Rising threw three touchdown passes, Tavion Thomas ran for 142 yards and a score, and No. 16 Utah beat the Buffaloes 28-13. Within the last year, the Utes lost star running back Ty Jordan and defensive back Aaron Lowe to tragic shooting deaths. Utah honored them with a TJ-AL logo on their helmets. "There's always been a reverence whenever we've talked about them, but we're getting to the point now where we just celebrate them and h onor what they represent. Coastal Carolina (10-2, 6-2 Sun Belt Conference ), which was ranked No. 22 in the preseason poll and climbed as high as No. 14 after winning its first six games, fell out of the Top 25 after a 42-40 loss to Georgia Southern two weeks ago. 2021 BIG SOUTH DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Brevin Allen, DL, Sr., Campbell,...Allen is a finalist for the Stats Perform FCS Buck Buchanan National Defensive Player of the Year Award, and finished the regular-season as the Big South leader in quarterback sacks with 9.5 and tackles-for-loss with 17.5. He ranks 10th nationally in TFL and 19th in sacks, and was one of 10 Big South defenders with at least two forced fumbles this season. The first Camel to be voted Big South Defensive Player of th e Year, Allen set the school single-season record for sacks, and tied the program record for tackles-for-loss.He was the Big South Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 11 after posting 3.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, five total tackles and a pass break-up in Campbell's victory over Gardner-Webb in the East/West BBQ Bowl. Allen recorded at least 2.0 stops behind the line of scrimmage in six games - two of which were games with 3.0 TFL - and finished the year with a TFL in eight of his 11 a ppearances. He amassed 44 total tackles (26 solo, 18 assisted), six quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery in 2021. 2021 OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): DJ Williams (QB), Murray State,...Williams started the season as Murray State's backup quarterback by was forced into duty in the fifth game of the season due to an injury to the starter. In tha t game against nationally-ranked UT Martin, Williams had 210 yards of total offense and a touchdown off the bench. The following week he earned his first career start at Southeast Missouri and helped the Racers overcome a 15-point second half deficit to win 32-31 and earn OVC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Williams accounted for 321 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in that win.In the team's second meeting of the season with SEMO (Nov. 13), Williams was named National Freshman of the Week by Stats Perform after tallying 296 yards of total offense and two touchdowns. In that game he scored on a 58-yard rush and added a 73-yard completion (the ninth-longest in program history). Williams finished the season with 1,020 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air while rushing for 532 yards (6.4 yards/carry) and six scores on the ground. All season, Tennessee coach Josh Heupel has stressed maintaining a high competitive level, no matter the opponent. Saturday night, thanks to a 60-14 win over South Alabama, Heupel's players proved they got the message. "They answered my question," Heupel said. "Who are we going to be? We were assignment sound. We took care of business." Hendon Hooker threw for 273 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Tennessee. The nonconference win gives the Volunteers (6-5) bowl eligibility in Heupel's first season. The Jaguars (5-6) have one more try to reach that level under first-year coach Kane Wommack. "(Bowl eligibility) is important for sure," Heupel said. "Nobody focused on that part of it. We just wanted to continue to grow and compete. Now w e have an opportunity to grow and compete in December." After Bailey Giffen got the Cardinals on the board with a 32-yard field goal, Self threw a nine-yard strike to Jeremiah Miller and a 7-yard strike to Lawton Rikel. Giffen connected on a 53-yard field goal with :21 left in the first half to make it 28-6 at intermission, but Self scored his third rushing touchdown of the game on a five-yard run less than two minutes into the second ha lf. The Roadrunners (11-0, 7-0) defeated the reigning three-time Conference USA West champion Blazers (7- 4, 5-2) to clinch their first division title. Trailing much of the game, the Roadrunners got the ball back with 1:09 left after stuffing the Blazers a yard short of a first down on third-and-4 at the UAB 42. Following a punt, Harris drove UTSA 77 yards o n seven plays. The winning touchdown came after Harris fumbled the snap and had his pass tipped by UAB linebacker Noah Wilder before Cardenas caught it in the back of the end zone. Harris completed 25 of 35 passes for 323 yards and three touchdowns. The senior set the school single-season record with 21 touchdown passes on his first TD Saturday.Dylan Hopkins passed for 254 yards and two touchdowns and DeWayne McBride rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries for UAB. The Roadrunners took their first lead late in the third quarter on Hunter Duplessis' 49-yard field goal to go up 27-24. Duplessis had a 51-yarder earlier. UTSA had a season-high 35,147 in attendance at the Alamodome, and the crowd had an impact as it did last week against S outhern Miss. Weber State set a program record with three interceptions returned for touchdowns, and the Wildcats clinched their seventh-straight winning season by beating Northern Colorado 48-17 on Saturday. It was the first home victory for the Wildcats (6-5, 5-3 Bi g Sky Conference), which closed the regular season winning five of its last seven. Desmond Williams, Braxton Gunther and Conner Mortensen returned interceptions 65 yards, 47 and 50 respectively. Northern Colorado led 10-3 midway through the second quarte r, and Williams tied it when he intercepted Alec Lewis. The Bears went back up when Lewis threw a 63-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Thomas with 6:02 before halftime. Weber State proceeded to go on a 38-0 run from there. Grayson McCall tied a school record five touchdown passes and Coastal Carolina maintained possession for more than 35 minutes in a 35-21 win over Texas State on Saturday. McCall returned after missing the last two games with an upper body injury and went 22-for-28 for 319 yards. The second-year starter threw touchdown passes to four different receivers which were led by senior Jaivon Heiligh and his sixth 100-yard receiving game of the season.Heiligh had 10 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown a nd senior tight end Isaiah Likely had five catches for 62 yards and a score. Kameron Brown finished with four catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns. McCall's 21-yard scoring pass to Likely broke a tie at 21 and the Chanticleers led the rest of the way. Kobe Pace ran for a career-high 191 yards and two touchdowns as Clemson won its 13th straight over No. 13 Wake Forest, delaying the Demon Deacons' run to the ACC Atlantic title with a 48-27 victory Saturday. Will Shipley gained 112 yards with two touchdo wns and also threw a 2-yard jump pass TD to Davis Allen for the Tigers (8-3, 6-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who won their 34th straight at home. Clemson also kept its hopes of a seventh straight trip to the ACC title game alive with the stunning rout of Wake Forest (9-2, 6-1). The Demon Deacons entered the game averaging 44.7 points and 498 yards a game. They left with a season low in points and had only 36 yards rushing.With time running out, chants of "Over-Rated," rang out through Death Valle y, where Wake Forest has not won since 1998. Fans filled the field at the end, the school reinstating its long-held tradition it first suspended in 2020 because of the pandemic. Still, Wake Forest remains in the divisional driver's seat and can make its first championship game appearance in 15 years by beating Boston College next Saturday. For the Tigers to reach the title game, they would need Wake Forest to lose to BC and have No. 25 North Carolina lose one of its final two games. Clemson, at last, lo oked the part of the ACC preseason favorite as it battered Wake Forest and quarterback Sam Hartman. Hartman was sacked seven times and threw an interception. The Deacons also fumbled twice, both leading to Clemson touchdowns. Hartman finished with 312 ya rds and a fourth-quarter touchdown with Wake trailing by 22 points.
