05/14/22 - TE Nick Gallo, rSr/2025, Virginia Tech + More +   Tech got an early start to life without James Mitchell after he went down with a season-ending injury in Week 2. Gallo and DeIuliis handled an expanded role well, with Gallo getting most of the opportunities in the passing game that went to Mitchell. This year will probably go the same way. Tech's new staff really likes what Gallo brings to the table and he took home the offense's most improved player award for the spring. He had 14 catches for 130 yards last year - it was his second straight season with double-digit receptions - and fans should expect to see those numbers go up this fall. 05/13/22 - WR Justyn Ross, rSr/2022, Clemson + More +   Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has high hopes for wide receiver Justyn Ross after the former Tiger was signed to the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent. "I mean, he might be the greatest free agent ever if he stays healthy," Swinney said Wednesday of Ross. The caveat of health is what caused Ross to go from a potential first- or second-round pick to not hearing his name called at all during the 2022 NFL Draft. That's not supposed to happen after the ad Swinney said only four teams medically cleared Ross, one of which was the Chiefs. That created an even smaller pool from which to get drafted but provided the Alabama native a better understanding of how his path to the NFL would have to be carved. In addition to the congenital fusion in his spine, the wideout missed the last three games of his final season at Clemson with a foot injury. Ross reportedly chose the Chiefs because of coach Andy Reid and getting to play with a quarterback like Patrick Mahomes. Here is his travel log: After Initially signing with Tom Herman and The University of Texas in 2019, McCoy, a one-time sure fire recruit from SoCal's Mater Dei High school, entered the transfer portal deciding to return closer to home and enroll at USC under Clay Helton to begin his collegiate career. After a productive redshirt freshman season in Los Angeles, McCoy appeared poised to live up to the hype entering his sophomore year but did not play a snap at USC during the 2021 season after he was arrested in July on suspicion of domestic violence. Although the Los Angeles District Attorney's office did not file criminal charges against McCoy, USC decided not to reinstate the former five-star after concluding their own Title IX investigation before the beginning of last season. Now McCoy is set to join his third program in four years, aiming to rejuvenate a once promising career alongside Josh Heupel and his high powered Rocky Top offense. 05/06/22 - WR Ryan OKeefe, rSr/2024, Boston College + More +   UCF is reportedly negotiating a $17 million-$20 million settlement with the American Athletic Conference to clear a path to the Knights joining the Big 12 Conference in 2023. Cincinnati, Houston and UCF have been in negotiations with the AAC the past couple of months after all three accepted bids to join the Big 12 in September. The intent was to join the league by July 2024 at the latest, but hoping to make the move by 2023. AAC bylaws require schools to give 27 months' notice and pay a $10 million exit fee, but an earlier exit would mean a negotiated settlement. According to a report by Action Network's Brett McMurphy, the exit fee is somewhere in the "$17 million to $20 million range." Initial reports had the AAC seeking $30 million-$35 million per school, which would be around double what the league received from UConn in 2019 when the school left early to rejoin the Big East ($17 million). 05/06/22 - QB JT Daniels, rSr/2024, Rice + More +   WVU officially adds Georgia quarterback transfer JT Daniels: WVU coach Neal Brown announced JT Daniels, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound redshirt senior quarterback from Irvine, Calif., signed a grant-in-aid and will transfer to WVU from Georgia. Though he is listed as a senior, Daniels has two years of eligibility remaining due to the free COVID year granted by the NCAA. Daniels is a former 5-star prospect, reuniting with Graham Harrell, who served as his offensive coordinator at USC in 2019. Harrell now holds the same position with the Mountaineers. Injuries have derailed Daniels' time at his previous two stops. After being named the starting QB at USC in 2018, where he started 11 games as a true freshman, an ACL injury the following season forced him to the bench. Kedon Slovis, who is now projected to be the starter at Pitt, took over and played well, forcing Daniels to hit the transfer portal. Daniels and Slovis could meet head-to-head Sept. 1 when the Backyard Brawl resumes at Heinz Field. On Tuesday night, the British Columbia Lions chose Metchie with the 59th pick in the CFL Draft. The nine Canadian Football League teams chose 74 players from Canadian college programs and Canadian players in U.S. college programs during the eight-round draft, starting with Syracuse linebacker Tyrell Richards. Metchie's hometown is Brampton, Ontario. After the 2020 and 2021 seasons, Metchie was awarded the Jon Cornish Trophy, which is presented annually to the outstanding Canadian player in NCAA football. This year, he was the first to win the award by unanimous vote. Metchie joined Nathan Rourke as the only two-time winners of the trophy. Rourke is a quarterback for the team that drafted Metchie on Tuesday night. 05/05/22 - WR Bru McCoy, rSr/2025, Tennessee + More +   Wide receiver Bru McCoy, a Southern Cal transfer and former five-star recruit, has committed to Tennessee. It could be a win-win situation, that is, if the nature of McCoy's exit from USC isn't an issue. The Vols get a talented 6-foot-3, 220-pound target to add to their offense, which was the highest scoring in program history last season. And McCoy gets a fresh start after a turbulent three years at USC that included a transfer, illness, arrest, removal from the roster, Title IX investigation and another transfer. In December 2018, McCoy was the No. 1 athlete, by position, and No. 9 overall player in his recruiting class when he signed with USC, according to 247Sports Composite. But he transferred to Texas and then back to USC in spring 2019. McCoy redshirted in the 2019 season because of an unspecified illness. In 2020, he made an immediate impact with 21 receptions for 236 yards and two TDs in six games during a COVID-shortened season. In 2021, McCoy was named to the preseason Pac-12 team by numerous publications. But his July 24 arrest on suspicion of felony intimate partner violence derailed his season.
