06/10/22 - DE Shane Irwin, rSr/2023, Boise State + More +   One of the Boise State football team's top pass rushers has called it a career. Defensive end Shane Irwin announced Thursday on Twitter that he has medically retired. The sixth-year senior appeared in 18 games and started 11 the past two seasons for the Broncos. He played in 11 games last season but missed spring practice with an undisclosed injury this year. "Although this is not the way I would have liked things to end, I am extremely grateful for the experiences and am looking forward to representing Bronco Athletics in my next chapter of life," Irwin said in a statement. Irwin was one of 11 players Boise State announced were returning as super seniors this year, meaning they were taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility the NCAA offered because of COVID-19. Irwin joined the Broncos in 2020 after spending two seasons at Long Beach City College. The native of Palos Verdes, California, began his college career at San Diego State. Irwin led the Broncos with 6.5 sacks in 2020, and he was tied for third on the team with three last season. Demeioun Robinson and Hunter Nourzad have both enrolled and could both play important roles in the season. Nourzad comes in as an offensive lineman best suited to play guard and according to Franklin will be in the competition along the interior. "He is a big, strong, powerful, thick guy," Franklin said. 06/08/22 - OG Timothy McKay, rSr/2025, North Carolina State + More +   Tim McKay wants to change Raleigh as badly as he wants to pancake defensive linemen. The N.C. State offensive tackle, who graduated from Wakefield High, already has his sights set on a post-football career he hopes will keep him in his hometown long after he's done playing for the Wolfpack. "I want to invest in a local startup right here in the Triangle," said McKay, who was 16 years old when he enrolled at N.C. State in January of 2019, "and really help them grow and get off the ground and then expand to other states." McKay earned his business degree from N.C. State in May. He wants to continue playing football, both at N.C. State and then professionally, but whenever his he hangs up the helmet and shoulder pads, he wants to help Raleigh grow. Inspired by a recent trip to Charlotte, McKay said he'd like to explore adding infrastructure - specifically light rail - to the state capital. McKay, a redshirt sophomore, has dedicated a lot of time to studying the setup of major cities across the United States. "I know it can't be like San Francisco or Miami," McKay said. 06/06/22 - QB Cameron Rising, rSr/2025, Utah + More +   Entering the 2022 season, Rising isn't going to sneak up on anybody. Opposing teams have a year's worth of film on him. Everybody knows who he is. Rising is being mentioned as someone that deserves a spot on Heisman Watch lists. A lot should be expected of Rising as he enters the season as the undisputed starter, according to Scott Mitchell. "Cam Rising right now should be considered a Heisman Trophy candidate," he said. "That's my expectation." But Mitchell's expectations don't end there. "The expectation is that Utah ends up in the College Football Playoff. I think that's what they think, too. I think Cam Rising thinks that. That expectation is, this isn't bigger than us," he said. "With the type of talent they have coming back, across the board (that should be the expectation). "But also the maturity and the experience and the culture that's at Utah right now. 06/03/22 - WR *Parker Washington, rSo/2023, Penn State + More +   Penn State announced its theme games for the 2022 football season Wednesday afternoon, including its White Out game. The Nittany Lions will take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Oct. 22 in the White Out, in a game that will also serve as homecoming at Beaver Stadium and the yearly "Generations of Greatness" game - featuring Penn State's alternate uniforms. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. for the game. The White Out was one of seven theme games announced by the program in a video on its Twitter account. One of the other key games announced was the Stripe Out game against Ohio State on Oct. 29. The game against the Buckeyes will be the first with fans at Beaver Stadium that isn't a White Out since 2009 when the program chose Iowa for the yearly game. 05/30/22 - DT Jermayne Lole, rSr/2025, Texas + More +   Even when Arizona State defensive tackle Jermayne Lole put his name in the NCAA transfer portal, there was still some hope he might remain to the Sun Devils program because he hadn't closed the door on that possibility. But Lole is indeed moving on after committing to Louisville Friday after a visit to the school. That announcement came before other trips he had planned to Florida, Texas Tech, and Pac-12 foe Oregon. Lole sat out last season, after sustaining a torn triceps injury in late August. That injury eventually required surgery. He participated in some spring drills on a limited basis did not partake in any contact activity. Lole, a 6-foot-3, 305-pounder, was a three-year starter for the Sun Devils before that injury and was regarded as the No. 2 ranked available prospect in the transfer portal by 247Sports. 05/29/22 - C Alex Forsyth, rSr/2023, Oregon + More +   From the moment he announced he'd be returning for his senior season, Alex Forsyth has been Oregon's starting center. A back injury knocked him out for five games last season, but Forsyth is a sure-fire starter. He's the leader of the group on and off the field and one of the longest tenured players in the program. Ryan Walk has been the No. 2 center in all practicality for the past two years, but should he remain a starting guard then Jackson Powers-Johnson could be the backup on paper. Forsyth set the tone for Oregon's offensive line when he announced he'd be back in 2022 all the way back at Pac-12 Media Day. "I always thought I was coming back," he said. "So I didn't think it was a question." With Forsyth and Walk the first to decide, then Steven Jones, the momentum built to get T.J. Bass on board and for Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu to reverse his decision to remain in the NFL Draft and come back as well. The Broncos open the 2022 season Sept. 3 at Oregon State in a game that will kick off at 8:30 p.m. Mountain time and air on ESPN. 05/26/22 - TE Erick All, rSr/2024, Iowa + More +   If there was ever an on-field moment that sums up Erick All, it was the cold, wet afternoon last November at Penn State. Nursing a high-ankle sprain that sidelined him a week earlier, and had Nittany Lions defenders feeling confident in their ability to keep up with the 6-foot-4, 245-pound tight end, All surprised everyone. As quarterback Cade McNamara dropped back to pass, Michigan successfully ran a mesh route that sent two receivers from the right side of the field to left, confusing Penn State players and leaving a streaking All wide open over the field of the field. Not only did he catch the football, but he darted up field more than 40 yards for a touchdown, outrunning everyone after him. "I mean, he was two weeks off a high-ankle sprain and he was doing that," Michigan tight ends coach Grant Newsome, a graduate assistant coach at the time, recently recalled. "I think he's a really, really special athlete." Newsome isn't the only Michigan assistant to heap praise on All, who enters his senior year this fall. It was offensive line coach (formerly in charge of the tight ends) Sherrone Moore who just a couple of years ago set the expectation high for the Fairfield, Ohio, native. The coaches saw something special in All early on, not only in his big, athletic frame but his natural ability and over-the-top work ethic. 05/26/22 - RB Alex Fontenot, rSr/2023, Colorado + More +   Colorado hasn't played a football game at Air Force in nearly 48 years. The Buffaloes haven't had a game on CBS in more than 26 years. Both of those streaks will come to a close on Sept. 10. On Wednesday, the game time and TV slot for the Buffs' visit to Falcon Stadium was announced. The game is slated for a 1:30 p.m. MDT kickoff and will be broadcast on CBS. This will be CU's first appearance on CBS since beating Oregon, 38-6, in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 1, 1996. CU's last visit to Air Force came on Oct. 5, 1974, when the Buffs came away with a 28-27 victory. After that game, the Buffs and Falcons didn't meet again until Sept. 14, 2019, at Folsom Field. Air Force won that game, 30-23, in overtime. 05/25/22 - RB Noah Whittington, rSr/2026, Oregon + More +   Noah Whittington's transfer from Western Kentucky did not receive much attention, but he could be one of the more underrated additions to the 2022 class. In the spring game with presumed starter Byron Cardwell out, Whittington rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. His biggest run came in the second quarter as he scampered for 45-yards before scoring a two-yard touchdown.
