Kaytron Allen ran for a career-high 226 yards and a touchdown as Penn State beat Rutgers 40-36 for the 18th straight time to become bowl eligible after a tumultuous season. The Nittany Lions (6-6, 3-6 Big Ten) retook the lead for good when linebacker Amare Campbell raced 61-yards with a fumble with 7:27 to play. Rutgers quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis lost the ball without being touched. Rutgers (5-7, 2-7 Big Ten) had moved ahead 36-33 early in the fourth quarter on a 46-yard TD pass from Kaliakmanis to Antwan Raymond. Raymond ran for 189 yards and Kaliakmanis passed for 338 yards and three TDs. There were four lead changes in the second half. Rutgers turned the ball over on downs with 3:55 to go when Kaliakmanis lost a yard on fourth-and-1 on the Penn State 27-yard-line on a read-option play. "One of the things we learned tonight was how to end the game on our terms," said Penn State interim coach Terry Smith. "The defense struggled all night. It was not pretty, but they figured out a way. That's football. "We ended the game on our terms." Rutgers lost three of its last four games, giving up at least 35 points in all of them. Campbell led Penn State with 14 tackles. "He (Campbell) deserves a lot of credit, and he plays really hard," said Smith. "He is very productive, solid, and consistent. I don't know what we would do without him. He is a stable piece in the middle for us. Just a tremendous effort tonight." Penn State hasn't missed a bowl game since 2020 when the non-College Football Playoff bowl games were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After losing to Notre Dame in the semifinals of the CFP last season, the expectations for Penn State were high. The Nittany Lions began the season ranked No. 2 and were led by quarterback Drew Allar, who was headed for a Heisman-caliber season before a season-ending leg injury in Week Six against Northwestern. The following day coach James Franklin was fired after Penn State lost its first three Big Ten games, including back-to-back games in which the Nittany Lions were favored by 20-plus points. Penn State would lose six straight before turning its season around by winning its last three games. Penn State hasn't made a decision on its next coach, but Smith remains confident in the job he did turning around the Nittany Lions' season. - Penn State/AP College Football

On a Saturday filled with Southeastern Conference teams playing lower-division opponents, Tennessee appeared to be facing one, too. DeSean Bishop ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns, including one that ended with a flip into the end zone, and the 20th-ranked Volunteers overwhelmed rival Florida 31-11 to win in the Swamp for the first time since 2003. The Volunteers (8-3, 4-3 SEC) had dropped 10 in a row at Florida Field, one of the longest skids in series history. Although there were plenty of lopsided meetings over the years, this one could go down as the most stunning - even with the Gators (3-8, 2-6) spiraling and waiting to find out the future of Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin. With retired coach Urban Meyer watching from the Florida sideline, the Vols scored touchdowns on their first four drives and led 31-0 at halftime.

It was easily their most dominant 30 minutes of football against Florida since 1990. They outgained the Gators 323-110 in the opening half and had 19 first downs. The Gators put up little fight on defense and couldn't seem to get out of their own way on offense. A holding penalty negated a 42-yard completion, DJ Lagway was stuffed for no gain on a fourth-down run and Trey Smack missed a 38-yard field goal. The Gators tried to regroup at halftime. But Jadan Baugh inadvertently signaled for a fair catch on the second-half kickoff and let the ball bounce, resulting in Florida starting at the 2-yard line. Roughly half the home crowd left early, and no one could blame them. It was Florida's worst home showing since trailing Missouri 42-0 in 2014. Tennessee fans took over Florida Field in the waning moments and long after the clock wound down, and quarterback Joey Aguilar riled them up with a mock Gator chomp. - Tennessee/AP College Football

Kaytron Allen ran for 160 yards and two touchdowns, and Penn State's defense played its best game of the season to keep the Nittany Lions' bowl hopes alive with a 37-10 win over Nebraska on Saturday night. Allen, who racked up 181 yards rushing in last week's win against Michigan State, became Penn State's career rushing leader with 3,954 yards, passing Evan Royster's 3,932 set in 2010. The senior back plowed through and zipped around the Huskers all night. Allen passed Saquon Barkley on the school's career rushing list in the first half before eclipsing Royster with a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter. By then the Nittany Lions (5-6, 2-6 Big Ten) had put the game out of reach, scoring on five-straight possessions while their defense stymied the Cornhuskers.

Allen ripped off a 50-yard run around Nebraska's left flank on the Nittany Lion's opening drive to help setup a short touchdown toss from Ethan Grunkemeyer to tight end Andrew Rappleyea. Ryan Barker booted a 26-yard field goal, then Nicholas Singleton capped Penn State's next two drives with 4- and 10-yard rushing touchdowns to make it 23-3 at halftime. Emmett Johnson had 19 carries for 103 yards and eight catches for 48 for yards for the Cornhuskers (7-4, 4-4), who have lost three of their last five. They didn't give themselves much of chance in head coach and State College native Matt Rhule's return to Beaver Stadium. Nebraska mustered just 140 yards in the first half, turned the ball over on downs twice and punted twice more. Penn State forced three more turnovers on downs in the second half. - Penn State/AP College Football

Tucker Gleason threw two of his four touchdown passes to Junior Vandeross III, and Toledo rolled to a 38-9 victory over Ball State on Saturday in a Mid-American Conference regular-season finale. Toledo (7-4, 5-2 Mid-American Conference) moves into a five-way tie for second place in the MAC, a game behind conference leader Western Michigan. Gleason was 15-of-24 passing for 218 yards. He threw a pair of touchdown passes in the first quarter to help Toledo build a 24-3 halftime lead.

His 42-yard touchdown pass to Vandeross III stretched the Rockets' advantage to 31-3 early in the third quarter. The pair connected on a 63-yard touchdown in the fourth. Chip Trayanum add 128 yards rushing on 15 carries with a short-yardage touchdown run for the Rockets. Kiael Kelly completed 13 of 30 passes for 166 yards and threw two interceptions for Ball State (4-7, 3-4 Mid-American Conference). Isaiah Thacker had a 15-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.   Justin Joly had a clinching fourth-down touchdown catch with 1:47 left - coming after Florida State committed turnovers on back-to-back late punt returns - to help N.C. State hang for a 21-11 win Friday night and become bowl eligible. The Wolfpack (6-5, 3-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) grinded to this win behind a defense that allowed one TD and got a huge showing from cornerback Devon Marshall with two interceptions and five pass breakups. The offense did its best work on a 15-play drive lasting nearly 9 minutes, ending with Will Wilson plowing through the left side for a 1-yard keeper and a 14-3 third-quarter lead. But it was the special-teams miscues by the Seminoles (5-6, 2-6) that stood out most.

Trailing 14-11, they forced the Wolfpack to punt near midfield, only for Caden Noonkester's short kick to hit the helmet of FSU blocker K.J. Kirkland - then bounce about 25 yards back to Noonkester, who dove on the ball near the original line of scrimmage with 3:53 left. FSU again forced a punt, only to see Squirrel White muff the catch and have it bounce right to N.C. State's Tra Thomas with 2:21 left. C.J. Bailey followed with his second TD throw on the 12-yarder to Joly for the 21-11 lead. Duce Robinson had a 9-yard TD catch from Tommy Castellanos midway through the fourth for FSU's lone touchdown. - NC State/AP College Football
