  After a stellar junior season, Army West Point Football captain Nolan Cockrill has been named to a pair of watch lists for the 2021 season. In addition to being named to the Phil Steele Preseason All-Independent First Team, Cockrill finds himself on both the Outland Trophy and Nagurski Trophy watch lists, which were announced by the Football Writers Association of America yesterday. The 6-foot-3 senior paced the Cadets with four QB hurries a year ago while racking up 28 tackles and seven tackles for a loss. The Virginia native also recorded 2.5 sacks, two pass break-ups, a forced fumble while chipping in two blocked kicks on special teams. - Army Football

  The Army West Point football team had multiple defensive players named to the Preseason All-Independent Team by Phil Steele Publications recently. The Black Knights were represented on the squad with four first team honorees and one on the second team. Nolan Cockrill, Arik Smith, Jabari Moore and Cedrick Cunningham Jr., were all named to the first team, while Andre Carter was selected to the second team. Cockrill returns to West Point for his final season as one of four team captains. The defensive lineman was key to the success of the defense in 2020 and also made an impact on special teams with two block kicks. He posted a career high with 2.5 sacks and a total of 28 tackles in 12 games played. - Amy Football

  Head coach Jeff Monken announced the four team captains for the 2021 season in senior defensive lineman Nolan Cockrill, senior defensive back Cedrick Cunningham, senior linebacker Arik Smith and junior defensive back Marquel Broughton. The No. 1 overall defense in all of FBS in 2020, the Black Knights tabbed four players from the defensive side of the ball to represent as captains in 2021. Cockrill was an anchor for the Black Knights in 2020 on the defensive line and is poised to have an even bigger breakout season in 2021. He finished 2020 with 28 tackles, 7.0 TFL and 2.5 sacks. He led the team with four QB hurries and collected two pass breakups and one forced fumble. For his efforts in 2020, Cockrill was named a Phil Steele All-Independent First Team honoree. - Army Football
