 Luke Jones, Arkansas, Player News

  05/05/22 - OT Luke JonesrSr/2023, Arkansas, 6-5, 327 (DS#999 OT) + More +

Seems these 2022 Arkansas Razorbacks have big shoes to fill at left offensive tackle. Really big shoes, considering departed 2021 senior Myron Cunningham goes 6-6, 325 pounds. Start naming Razorbacks who helped to a 9-4 record and Cunningham typically doesn't get mentioned until somewhere down the line. "You say he was underrated?" Arkansas offensive coordinator Kendal Briles said. "He wasn't underrated by us." Or by KJ Jefferson, the right-handed starting quarterback whose blind side Cunningham protected. "He limited a lot of the mistakes that we had protecting KJ's backside last year," Briles said. "And he did a really nice job in the run game." Coach Sam Pittman, offensive line coach Cody Kennedy and Briles spent the spring auditioning left tackles like the staff auditioned receivers since All-American Treylon Burks turned pro.

The auditioning left tackle tribe includes Luke Jones, the 6-5, 327 fifth-year senior who transferred from Notre Dame, redshirt freshman Devon Manuel, true freshman Andrew Chamblee and even fourth-year junior starting guard Brady Latham. Jones has been a handyman guard/center/tackle lettering twice for Pittman after redshirting with Chad Morris' 2019 Razorbacks when Division 1 transfers still had to redshirt. Jones has done fine as a reserve but will be required to step up as starting left tackle. "I think Luke's done a good job," Pittman said. "He's got to work his backside cutoffs. He needs work there. Done a nice job in pass protection." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  08/13/20 - OT Luke JonesrSr/2023, Arkansas, 6-5, 327 (DS#999 OT) + More +

Arkansas offensive lineman Luke Jones was put on scholarship on Tuesday, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has learned. Jones, a 6-5, 294-pounder from Pulaski Academy, was originally committed to Arkansas before flipping to Notre Dame in the Class of 2018. Jones spent one year with the Fighting Irish before transferring to the Razorbacks. He sat out last season per NCAA transfer rules. With Jones serving as a walk-on last season, the Razorbacks were able to sign full classes in 2019 and 2020. He is expected to compete for a spot on the two deep at either guard or center this season. - Northwest Arkansas Times
