Roy Yancey, South Alabama, Player News

South Alabama linebacker Roy Yancey has left the team and entered the NCAA transfer portal, he confirmed to AL.com on Tuesday. Yancey, originally from Opelika, played in 19 games and totaled 50 tackles the last three seasons with the Jaguars. He totaled two tackles in eight games in 2020. South Alabama head football coach Kane Wommack told AL.com Yancey's departure was related to playing time. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Yancey came to South Alabama from Arizona Western Community College, where he was a second-team NJCAA All-American in 2017. He won a starting job at inside linebacker the following spring, but suffered a broken leg in the Jaguars' 2018 opener vs. Louisiana Tech and missed the remainder of the season. - Birmingham News
