09/14 WEEK 2 SWAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jaylon Tolbert, Alcorn State,...The Senior from Fort Lauderdale, Florida displayed a career night in Alcorn State's SWAC Opener in the 37th Annual Southern Heritage Classic, throwing for 485 yards while goi ng 32-for-45 and adding five touchdowns, willing his team back from a 14-point deficit to win 53-51 over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in double overtime Saturday, September 12. Tolbert made his impact on the ground game with seven rushes and 36 yards. Jaylon Tolb ert's performance was recognized Nationally as he was also named the BOXTOROW HBCU Co-Player of the Week and an honorable mention for FCS Stats Perform Offensive Player the Week. Nationally in the FCS, Tolbert is ranked No. 4 with 869 passing yards while also being ranked in the top five with a 75 percent completion rate. Jaylon Tolbert threw for two touchdowns and he also ran for a score as Alcorn State rode a big third quarter to take down Southern 35-17 on Saturday. Reggie Davis led all rushers with 110 yards on 17 carries, and the Braves (4-6, 3-3 Southwestern Athleti c Conference) racked up 259 total rushing yards. All of Tolbert's touchdowns came in the third quarter as Alcorn State pulled away. Omarion Blakes and Tylon Citizen each caught touchdowns, while Jarvis Rush (4 carries, 28 yards) rushed for a score. A Nat han Zimmer 42-yard field goal brought Southern (1-9, 0-6) within four points as time expired in the first half. Trey Holly rushed for Southern's only offensive touchdown, tallying 13 yards on 10 attempts. He also caught three passes for 30 yards. - AP Co llege Football

Jaylon Tolbert threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns Alcorn State beat Mississippi Valley State 32-10 on Saturday. Tolbert threw scoring passes of 10, 16 and 74 yards to Jarvis Rush, Ja'Coby Matthews and Tyran Warren, respectively. His 74-yard scoring pass to Warren a minute-and-a-half into the second half extended the Braves' (2-6, 1-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) lead to 29-0. Tolbert completed 23 of 32 pass attempts and connected with nine different receivers. Matthews was the biggest recipie nt with seven receptions for 73 yards. Mississippi Valley State (1-6, 0-3) recorded its lone touchdown when Josh Brown completed a 27-yard scoring pass to Cameron Nelson with 5:43 left in the third quarter.
