 Luke Altmyer, Illinois, Player News

  09/13/25 - QB Luke AltmyerrSr/2026, Illinois, 6-2, 215 (DS#7 QB) + More +

Luke Altmyer threw for two touchdowns and ran for another and No. 9 Illinois shut out Western Michigan 38-0 on Saturday night. Kaden Feagin rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown and Ca'Lil Valentine ran for 63 yards and a TD. Hank Beatty caught six passes for 53 yards and a TD. It was the seventh consecutive victory dating to last season for Illinois (3-0), its longest winning streak since it won seven in a row in 2011.

Broc Lowry threw for 78 yards and ran for 40 yards for the Broncos (0-3), who had 204 total yards. Illinois led 10-0 at halftime, preserving the shutout with a goal-line stand in the final seconds. The Illini stopped the Broncos twice at the 1-yard line. The only TD of the half was a 6-yard pass from Altmyer to Beatty in the second quarter, his first scoring catch of the season. Illinois' leading receiver had scored a TD on a punt return in the Illini's opener vs. Western Illinois. - Illinois/AP College Football

  09/06/25 - QB Luke AltmyerrSr/2026, Illinois, 6-2, 215 (DS#7 QB) + More +

Luke Altmyer threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns and No. 11 Illinois capitalized on a series of mistakes by Duke to beat the Blue Devils 45-19 on Saturday for a road win against a power-conference opponent. Kaden Feagin, Hank Beatty and Ca'Lil Valentine ran for scores, while Beatty also had a huge receiving day with eight catches for 128 yards for the Fighting Illini (2-0). Illinois led by just one at halftime but asserted itself from there and outscored Duke 31-6 in what turned into a dominating finish. The key, though was Illinois' opportunism in pouncing on every Duke mistake when the game was close - and boy, there were plenty.

Duke (1-1) committed five turnovers, notably a muffed punt deep in its own end to set up a short field on Illinois' first touchdown and Darian Mensah losing a red-zone fumble in the first half. The miscues also included a penalty for having two players in the game wearing a No. 8 jersey as Illinois punted on a three-and-out to open the second half. That led to a first down on a drive the Illini would ultimately take to the end zone, with Altmyer's 4-yard scoring throw to Justin Bowick for a 21-13 lead that ultimately proved to be merely the start of Illinois' surge. Mensah threw for 334 yards and two touchdowns for Duke. Both went to Andrel Anthony, including a spectacular grab in the back of the end zone with Anthony getting his right toe down barely inbounds 8 seconds before halftime to make it 14-13. - Illinois/AP College Football

  08/30/24 - QB Luke AltmyerrSr/2026, Illinois, 6-2, 215 (DS#7 QB) + More +

Luke Altmyer threw for 213 yards and a career-high four touchdowns to lead Illinois past Eastern Illinois 45-0 Thursday night in the season opener for both teams. Altmyer spread the wealth while completing 19 of 24 passes. Eleven receivers caught passes, three for touchdowns. Pat Bryant had two TDs, giving him 11 for his career. Malik Elzy and Tanner Arkin also caught TD passes. Kaden Feagin led Illinois' rushing attack with 16 carries for 108 yards. It was his first career 100-yard game. He ran for a touchdown and so did Josh McCray. Aidan Laughery ran for 79 yards on 10 carries. Illinois scored on all five of its trips into the red zone, outgained Eastern Illinois 486-196, and had 27 first downs to the Panthers' nine.

Four Eastern Illinois turnovers were turned into 24 points by the Illini. Miles Scott caused a fumble and had an interception. It was 31-0 at halftime. Eastern Illinois had a promising opening drive, but Scott forced a fumble by running back Jay Pearson and Seth Coleman recovered on the Illini 23. That turned out to be the Panthers' deepest penetration into Illinois territory until late in the third quarter, when Dylan Rosiek chased down Eastern Illinois receiver DeAirious Smith after a pass completion, Smith fumbled, and Kaleb Patterson recovered on the Illini 13. Altmyer threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Bryant following Coleman's fumble recovery. That came on the play after an Altmyer-to-Zakhari Franklin touchdown pass was ruled incomplete and confirmed by video review after a challenge by Illinois. - AP College Football

Although action doesn't officially start until Monday, among the reported quarterbacks in, or planning to be to enter the transfer portal as of Dec. 1 is Ole Miss Luke Altmyer: He started Game 2 this season, against Central Arkansas, when Lane Kiffin said he was trying to sort out who should start. But he hasn't played since Game 3. He played in eight games in two seasons, and accuracy has been a problem (a combined 28-of-54, 51.8 percent). He has three seasons of eligibility remaining. - NFL Draft Scout and online sources

Mississippi defeated the Bears 59-3 in a dominating performance from all three phases of the game. Quarterback Luke Altmyer got his first college start at quarterback and had a good outing, posting a three-touchdown evening, two through the air and one on the ground. During the second quarter, he was replaced by Jaxson Dart after he suffered an upper-body injury. Dart took over, and the Rebels didn't skip a beat. There's still no official word on who the starting quarterback will be for the season, as head coach Lane Kiffin hasn't given a definitive answer. "We'll go back and look at the film and see what we think," Kiffin said. - Daily Mississippi

Luke Altmyer threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score, Michael Trigg had three touchdown catches and No. 22 Mississippi routed Central Arkansas 59-3 on Saturday night. Ole Miss (2-0) raced to a 28-0 first-quarter lead, highlighted by touchdown passes of 1 and 7 yards from Altmyer to Trigg before adding a 1-yard scoring run to cap the decisive surge. Altmyer was 6 of 13 for 90 yards before being lifted late in the second quarter with what a school spokesperson described as an upper-body injury, pending evaluation. The early outburst opened with a 6-yard touchdown run from Zach Evans.

Ole Miss got a 25-yard punt return for a touchdown from Ladarius Tennyson after a poor snap, and set up another score when Bobo Miller blocked a punt. Atlantic Sun Conference member Central Arkansas (0-2), trailed 31-0 at halftime. It had 182 yards of total offense. Hayden Ray made a 31-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to avoid the shutout. Jaxson Dart, a transer from Southern California, relieved Altmyer and finished 10 of 15 passing for 182 yards, highlighted by touchdown passes of 6 yards to Malik Heath and 2 yards to Trigg. Ole Miss finished with 487 yards of total offense. Quinshon Judkins rushed for 104 yards as the Rebels pulled away, leading 52-0 after three periods. - Mississippi/AP College Football

Luke Atlmyer and Jaxson Dart are two quarterbacks vying for Ole Miss' starting quarterback job this fall. Altmyer is the sophomore returning quarterback for the Rebels and Dart is an incoming transfer from USC. While the competition is expected to be intense, Altmyer said he will have fun working alongside Dart, who passed for 1,353 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions for USC. "He's a very nice guy. He's a great player and competitor," Altmyer said while working as a camp counselor at the Manning Passing Academy at Nicholls in Thibodaux, Louisiana, on Friday. "Our relationship is very healthy. He's a super cool dude and very selfless and a great teammate.

"There is obviously a lot of competition and that builds some anxiety that comes with it, but I wouldn't want anything but the best for him." The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Altmyer competed in five games for Ole Miss last season, mostly behind starter Matt Corral, who has left for the NFL. Altmyer completed 20 of 37 passes for 192 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in 2021. He played when Corral injured his knee during the Sugar Bowl against Baylor in New Orleans on Jan. 2. He threw for 178 yards and a touchdown and completed 15 of 28 pass attempts in a 21-7 loss. Despite the bowl loss, Altmyer said the game was valuable. "I've learned so much from that experience," Altmyer said. "It's great having those reps and facing the adversity that comes with it. I still have things to learn, but I'm just going to keep on trying to do my best." - The Clarion Ledger

The Red team defeated the Navy team 48-36 in Ole Miss's annual Grove Bowl on Saturday. Leading the way for the Red team was sophomore quarterback Luke Altmyer. Altmyer played a good game, throwing for 182 yards and no interceptions. He also rushed for 77 yards on five attempts and ran in for two touchdowns. Although he did have great numbers on the ground, Altmyer didn't look very sharp through the air, posting just a 41% completion percentage. But, he did show flashes of how accurate he can be when he threw a strike to junior running back Ulysses Bentley IV for a 42 yard gain in the first quarter. "I think I've just gained so much confidence," Altmyer said when asked where he's improved the most since last season. "I think confidence for a quarterback is the biggest asset, and I think last year I lacked a lot of it, just being new and being around a bunch of new guys." On the other side, the Navy team was led by sophomore quarterback Jaxson Dart. Dart didn't have the best game, throwing for 166 yards and two interceptions with a 36% completion percentage, while overthrowing his receivers with the deep ball multiple times in the first half. - Daily Mississippian
