 Deuce Spann, Pittsburgh, Player News

  08/10/22 - WR Deuce SpannrSr/2026, Pittsburgh, 6-3, 208 (DS#999 WR) + More +

Deuce Spann wasn't concerned about whether he could switch from quarterback to wide receiver. A gifted athlete, Spann had the size (6-foot-4) and speed to accommodate his move to a new position, something he displayed last season while at Illinois. That has continued since transferring to Florida State. "I didn't think it would be easy, but I knew I could do it because I feel like I'm a great athlete," Spann said of the position change. Spann, a Florida native, was a 3-star prospect out of Lakewood High before signing as part of the Illini's 2020 recruiting class. After redshirting his freshman season, he switched to receiver, finishing with 5 catches for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns in nine games last season.

He entered the transfer portal on Dec. 22 and transferred to FSU less than a week later. "Coach [Mike] Norvell said he was going to develop me - he wanted me to be a complete receiver," Spann said. Said Norvell: "Deuce was so young in playing receiver. He played last year and you saw the flashes and that's what I believed in. Then you talk to the young man and his willingness to work - he's got a great work ethic and is a special human. It carries over to everything." Spann was one of four transfer receivers to join the Seminoles this offseason, along with Johnny Wilson (Arizona State), Winston Wright (West Virginia) and Mycah Pittman (Oregon). And while he may be the least experienced of the group, he's been making up for the lost time. - Orlando Sentinel
