Tennessee transfer Dee Beckwith is already on his second position at Kentucky. UK first listed him as a running back when he was added to the roster in June. When the roster was updated for the start of preseason camp this week, Beckwith had moved to wid e receiver. In reality, neither position fully encapsulates the role Beckwith might fill for Kentucky when he gains full command of coordinator Rich Scangarello's offense. "He's a big boy," UK Coach Mark Stoops said. "He's a guy that can confuse you at t imes because he can play so many different positions. That's the nice thing. That's what Rich really liked about him and we liked about him as a staff, was we could be very multiple with him."During Kentucky's open practice Saturday, Beckwith most ly served as a spectator during team scrimmage periods, but even on the sideline he was hard to miss. At 6-foot-5, 230 pounds, Beckwith possesses the physical tools that make it easy to see why he was rated as a four-star prospect out of Florence High Sc hool in Alabama. He committed to Tennessee's recruiting class of 2020 over offers from Kentucky, Florida, Auburn, Florida State, Michigan, Ole Miss and Michigan State. - Herald Leader

Dee Beckwith arrives at Kentucky looking to establish his identity as a running back. During his two seasons with Tennessee, Beckwith carried the ball four times for a total of 27 yards. Despite injuries to multiple running backs ahead of him on the Volu nteers' depth chart in 2021, the 6-foot-5, 227-pound Alabama native had just one rushing attempt. Beckwith spent time at quarterback, running back and wide receiver as a three-star athlete prospect at Florence High School. He also bounced around mu ltiple positions at UT in addition to running back but saw the field most on special teams. "He never fit at safety or linebacker on defense or tight end on offense," Tennessee football beat reporter Adam Sparks of the Knoxville News Sentinel wrote upon learning Tuesday of Beckwith's transfer to Kentucky, which the running back didn't announce on social media. So where does Beckwith fit at UK heading into his first season with the Wildcats? For now, the redshirt sophomore likely has a steep hill to clim b if he wants to take carries from Smoke, Jefferson and the rest of the running back room in the event that Rodriguez isn't available. - Courier Journal

Tennessee redshirt freshman Dee Beckwith has been a running back for nearly a year now, and the plan is to keep it that way. The 6-foot-5, 227-pounder from Florence, Alabama, signed with the Volunteers as a three-star athlete prospect, and he worked last preseason at tight end, wide receiver and running back. His move to running back was at least partially due to low numbers at that position stemming from COVID-19 contact tracing, but that's where he resided last season and this spring."We have D ee at running back because we believe that he's a running back, and we want to see him progress," coach Josh Heupel said Wednesday during a news conference that followed his first August practice with the Vols. "I thought during spring ball that his last five practices were his best. He started to understand the principles and using his blockers in front of him, and he started to use his body as a true weapon. "He learned how to start playing with a little pad leverage, too, because he's a big, tall, lo ng body back there." Beckwith made his debut on special teams last December against Florida in the Vols' eighth game of the season. His first two carries totaled 24 yards in the win at Vanderbilt, with the season finale against Texas A&M yielding one rus h for 1 yard. - Chattanooga Times Free Press
