Bill Clark has added some talent to UAB's roster. Two Power Five transfers - former Mississippi State running back Lee Witherspoon and ex-West Virginia linebacker Charlie Benton - are transferring to UAB, AL.com has learned. The Witherspoon news was firs t reported by 247Sports. Witherspoon, a Birmingham native, broke the Alabama state record with 53 rushing touchdowns as a senior at North Jackson High School in 2018. He ran for 136 yards at Mississippi State the last two years and started one game this season. - Las Vegas Review Journal

The player once seen as Kylin Hill's potential successor intends on leaving Mississippi State. A source confirmed to the Clarion Ledger sophomore running back Lee Witherspoon has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Witherspoon started this past season as M SU's fourth-string running back behind Hill and true freshmen Jo'quavious Marks and Dillon Johnson. Hill opted out in the first half of the year, but Witherspoon's playing time did not increase as a result. Witherspoon recorded six carries for 35 yards a nd nine catches for 49 yards in 2020. As a true freshman in 2019, Witherspoon had 22 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown. - The Clarion Ledger
