Although action doesn't officially start until Monday, among the reported quarterbacks in, or planning to be to enter the transfer portal as of Dec. 1 are Tulsa's Braylon Braxton and Davis Brin: Tulsa fired coach Phillip Montgomery, and both quarterbacks who started a game for the Golden Hurricane are moving on. Brin started nine games this season, with Braxton - a redshirt freshman - starting the other three when Brin was injured. Brin, who also started in 2021, has had problems with interceptions, thr owing 24 picks in two seasons (to 35 TD passes); he has one season of eligibility remaining. Braxton has intriguing upside and some dual-threat capabilities. - NFL Draft Scout and online sources

University of Tulsa football players have been working all summer in the weight room and studying film. On Wednesday morning, they finally got the chance to get out on the field and put it all to use. For starting quarterback Davis Brin, the official sta rt of the 2022 season - the first day of practice - was long-anticipated, even if the players weren't even wearing full pads yet. That won't happen until Sunday. "It's amazing, I've been waiting for this day, been working all summer and it felt a little bit like Christmas Day for me today," Brin said. "Just being able to get back on the field, having offense, defense, everybody flying around, competing, I love it. It's always the most exciting time of the year, and we'll go and get better every day unti l Game 1." - Tulsa World

With the Hurricane losing their top rusher and two of their top three receivers from last season, they'll be looking for quarterback Davis Brin to take a step forward in his fifth year with the program. Brin saw the first significant action of his career last season, passing for 3,254 yards and 18 touchdowns with a 59.3% completion rate. He also added 75 yards and a score on the ground. He'll need to improve from an efficiency standpoint, however. Brin's 16 interceptions were the most in the FBS last se ason, with his 132.6 passer rating being the third-worst among quarterbacks with at least 400 pass attempts. - Wyoming Tribune Eagle

After up-and-down quarterback play the previous four seasons, the University of Tulsa is looking to fourth-year junior Davis Brin to ignite the Hurricane offense. "Davis Brin right now is our starting quarterback," coach Philip Montgomery said this week. "He's a guy that's taken the majority of the reps in the spring. He's also done that throughout the summer in their workouts as well as (in preseason practice)." Brin's career contributions equate to 19 completions in four games. Most notably, he orches trated last year's comeback victory in overtime against Tulane, leading three fourth-quarter touchdown drives while showing incredible poise."I really love the way he handles us offensively," Montgomery said. "He's a guy that understands what we r eally want to do, makes great decisions, gets the ball out of his hands. We're excited about his leadership and what he's going to bring to the table." Brin has been solid in the early goings of the preseason, leaning on his experience with the first-tea m offense in the spring and continuing to make strides. "I'm really comfortable and confident," he said. "I feel like we picked up where we left off. We installed a lot and we just picked it up really quick and we are raising the level of execution every day." - Tulsa World

The last time the University of Tulsa played at H.A. Chapman Stadium, Davis Brin put on a show. What happened Saturday was less dramatic than the Nov. 19 comeback against Tulane, but Brin took another step toward the No. 1 quarterback role with a solid o uting in the annual spring game. "That (Tulane) game definitely helped me gain some confidence coming into the spring, knowing that a lot of guys have my back," Brin said. "We picked up right where we left off from that game." During a conservatively cal led scrimmage in front of a small crowd, Brin connected on the first play with JuanCarlos Santana for a 36-yard gain. He finished 13-of-24 passing for 173 yards, showing poise and committing few mistakes. "Obviously there's some things in there that we w ould like to continue to keep working on, but overall I'm really pleased with his progress," coach Philip Montgomery said. "I'm pleased with the chemistry he has right now with our receivers and he's seeing the field well. We still have work to do, but I like where he's at right now." - Tulsa World
