 Bub Means, Pittsburgh, Player News

During an interview session harping on big-picture topics from name, image and likeness to unequal revenue distribution in the ACC, Pat Narduzzi broke a bit of local, team-specific news. Jerrod "Bub" Means, a wide receiver transfer from Louisiana Tech, will be immediately eligible for the upcoming season. "I think he has a ton of potential," Narduzzi said Thursday at the annual ACC Kickoff. Means, who began his collegiate career at Tennessee, needed an NCAA waiver to play right away after his second transfer. "He's ready to go. We're really excited about him, and he's another special guy that we think is going to help us a lot this year." With Means in the fold, Pitt will be solid at wide receiver. Akron transfer Konata Mumpfield is "a special kid who will play at the next level," Narduzzi said. The Panthers also bring back second-leading receiver Jared Wayne, as well as Jaylon Barden, Jaden Bradley and tight end Gavin Bartholomew. - Pittsburgh Post Gazette

Despite a full stable of talented wide receivers, Pat Narduzzi didn't believe Pitt had enough at that position. So, he dipped into the NCAA transfer portal and secured another - for now and future seasons. Jerrod "Bub" Means, who played at Louisiana Tech last season, announced on his Instagram page Saturday morning that he has committed to the Panthers. He has three years of eligibility remaining. Means, who had 25 scholarship offers coming from Lovejoy, Ga., in 2019, originally committed to North Carolina, but signed with Tennessee.

He also had interest from Georgia Tech, Virginia, Indiana, Northwestern, Missouri and Rutgers, among several others, according to Rivals.com. At Tennessee, he played sparingly as a defensive back before transferring to Louisiana Tech. He didn't play in 2020, but led the team in yards per reception (19.6) last season. He caught 22 passses for 430 yards and two touchdowns, and also returned 12 kickoffs for an average of 20.3 yards. - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Means averaged a team-best 19.6 yards per reception, which included a 72-yarder for a TD in the season opener against Mississippi State. His 19.6 yards per reception ranked in the top 5 in the league and top 20 in the country. - Louisiana Tech Football

Sifting through the transfer portal to find a big-bodied wide receiver seems to be becoming commonplace for Skip Holtz and his staff. At the beginning of March, Louisiana Tech landed pass-catcher Jerrod Means, who was enrolled at Tennessee during the 2019 season. Recruiting service 247sports officially reported Means' move Tuesday on its website and the Hampton, Georgia native has "wideout at La Tech" listed in his Twitter bio. Means confirmed to The News-Star that he has enrolled and been with the Bulldogs for the past two months.

Due to NCAA FBS transfer rules, he'll have to sit out 2020 but four years of eligibility remaining starting in 2021. "I felt the family atmosphere at Tech and I like what the coaches are building there," he said. After this upcoming season, Tech is set to lose the bulk of its receiving production as big-time playmakers Adrian Hardy and Isaiah Graham on the perimeter and Cee Jay Powell at the slot will all graduate. The addition of Means will help the ease the burden at the position in 2021. - Monroe News Star
