A few key residents of "Sack Ave.," the name given to UH's defensive line, have moved on, but the neighborhood is still brimming with talent. Gone are Logan Hall and David Anenih, who combined for 11 sacks and 23 tackles for loss last season. Hall is exp ected to be taken among the top 50 selections and could join Ed Oliver (2019) and Payton Turner (2021) as first-round selections, while Anenih is projected as a sixth- or seventh-round pick. Defensive line coach Brian Early returns plenty of options that should allow the Cougars to freely rotate eight to 10 players up front in the 4-3 scheme.Derek Parish opted to return for his final year of college eligibility, providing the Cougars with a capable edge rusher who accounted for 5 1/2 sacks, 12 1/ 2 tackles for loss and was fourth on the team with 56 tackles. D'Anthony Jones, a 6-2, 285-pound senior with an explosive first step, finished second in the AAC in sacks (seven) and forced fumbles (four) last season. He racked up the impressive totals wh ile splitting time with Anenih and playing only 40 percent of the defensive snaps. "My expectation is as highest for him as anybody on our team," defensive coordinator/associate head coach Doug Belk said. "Hopefully with increased reps his in-game produc tion doubles or triples." - Houston Chronicle
