Rutgers brought in a speedy, dynamic wide receiver/kick returner last year in Wisconsin transfer Aron Cruickshank. Now they have another in Youngblood, a transfer from Kansas State. Youngblood was an All-American kick returner as a true freshman in 2019 and the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year after returning three kickoffs for touchdowns, a national best. He'll be another weapon for Rutgers and special teams coordinator Adam Scheier. It'll also be interesting to see how much the Scarlet Knights incorporate him into the offense early on. Youngblood was limited in spring practices because of injury, but Schiano said at Big Ten media days that the 5-foot-10, 180-pound Youngblood was feeling "much better." "He's got an opportunity to jump in there and become not only a return guy, but in our wide receiver rotation," Schiano said. - Asbury Park Press

Rutgers still has a need for more speed. The Scarlet Knights followed up Saturday's road upset of Purdue by picking up a Sunday commitment from Kansas State transfer Joshua Youngblood, who was an All-America kick return specialist and Big 12 special team s player of the year last season. Youngblood (5-foot-10, 180 pounds) has three seasons of eligibility remaining, plus a redshirt year. He will presumably be a member of Rutgers' 2021 recruiting class. Here's what you need to know about the Scarlet Knight s' newest pickup: Youngblood can fly. The speedster returned three kickoffs for touchdowns as a true freshman in 2019. Youngblood averaged just under 36 yards per return. - Star Ledger

Joshua Youngblood is leaving Kansas State not even halfway into his second season. A K-State spokesman confirmed to The Mercury on Tuesday that Youngblood, a sophomore wide receiver for the Wildcats, has entered the transfer portal. The news was first re ported by 247Sports. Youngblood had appeared in just two of K-State's four games this season. He had one carry for three yards and three kickoff returns for 54 yards. Youngblood did not record a reception this fall. His transfer brings a stunning end to a K-State career that held so much promise. As a freshman in 2019, he had one of the greatest special teams seasons in the Wildcats' storied history in returners.Youngblood returned three kickoffs for touchdown, the most in the FBS, on his way to being named the Big 12's special teams player of the year, marking the first time in the league's history that a freshman had earned that honor on offense, defense or special teams. He had 502 yards on 14 returns, an average of 35.9 yards per return - a number that would have led the country had he netted two more attempts needed to meet the NCAA's minimum. It also would have moved into No. 1 in school history for a single season, surpassing Tyler Lockett's 35.2-yards-per-return effort in 2011. - Manhat tan Mercury

2019 ALL-BIG 12 FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES): KR/PR Joshua Youngblood, K-State,...A native of Tampa, Florida, Youngblood is the first freshman in Big 12 history to be named the Big 12 Player of the Year on offense, defense or special teams. It is the fi fth time that a Wildcat earned the league's top special teams honors since the award was established in 2005, joining Morgan Burns (2015), Tyler Lockett (2013 and 2014) and Brandon Banks (2009). Youngblood finished the regular season with a nation-leadin g three kickoff-return touchdowns, a mark that ranks third in both Big 12 and school history and first among freshmen. His kickoff-return average of 38.1 yards leads the conference by 12.0 yards per return, while he would rank first nationally if he had two more attempts to meet the NCAA's required minimum. - Kansas State Football
