Middle Tennessee head football coach Rick Stockstill announced today two more transfers into the program who will be eligible immediately. The Blue Raiders have added placekicker Alex Usry and defensive end Joseph Honeysucker. Honeysucker (6-3, 240) sign ed with Memphis in 2019 but did not see any action as a freshman and left the Tigers prior to the 2020 campaign. He was a three-star prospect coming out of Nashville's Hillsboro High School where he helped them to three straight winning seasons and playo ff berths. Honeysucker ended his career with 37 sacks and earned all-state and all-region honors. Usry (5-10, 185) served as Charleston Southern's primary kicker for the previous three years where he was the 2019 Big South Special Teams Player of the Yea r and a sophomore All-American. He made 20 of 28 field goals during his career while also connecting on a school record 52 yarder. - Middle Tennessee Football

2019 BIG SOUTH SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Alex Usry, PK, R-Soph., Charleston Southern,...Usry is the second Charleston Southern Buccaneer to earn the Big South Special Teams Player of the Year honor since the award's creation in 2013. He finished the year with a team-high 82 points, as he was a perfect 25-of-25 on PAT attempts and went 19-of-25 on field goal tries. Usry's 19 field goals led the Big South and tied for the third-most in a season in league annals. He tied the Big South sin gle-season record with seven made field goals from at least 40 yards - three of which were 50+ yard kicks. Usry had a streak of 11 consecutive field goals made, the second-longest streak in conference history, and in that span he tied the Big South singl e-game record with four field goals in Week 8 at North Alabama.He became the first kicker in Big South history to make two field goals of at least 49 yards in the same game when he booted a 49-and 50-yarder at Kennesaw State in Week 7. Usry was a four-time Big South Special Teams Player of the Week honoree this season, had three 10-point kicking games, and had the league's longest field goal with a career-long 52-yarder against UNA. Terrence Wilson ran for the winning touchdown and Alex Usry kicked four field goals as Charleston Southern beat North Alabama 25-20 on Saturday night. Wilson carried six times for just 23 yards, but his 8-yard TD run late in the fourth quarter gave the B uccaneers (2-5, 1-1 Big South Conference) the winning edge. Jack Chambers had 126 yards passing and Jamari Dunbar ran for 123 yards on 28 carries for the Buccaneers.Chambers threw an interception early in the first quarter that was returned 62 yar ds for a North Alabama score. Charleston Southern answered with an Usry 24-yard field goal, and Jarrod Stanley's interception set up a touchdown throw from Chambers to Garris Schwarting three plays later. Usry added a 35-yard field goal and the Buccaneer s led 13-11 at halftime. Usry kicked two more field goals in the second half, from 26 and 52 yards, to lead 19-17 early in the fourth. But Joe Gurley kicked his second field goal for the Lions (2-5, 0-1) after that and North Alabama took a 20-19 edge. Wi lson's scoring run with 6:57 remaining put Charleston Southern back on top and Darin Smalls picked off Christian Lopez with under two minutes left to seal the win.
