University of South Carolina Athletics, in a partnership with JM Associates and Executive Producer and president of Sport & Story Bo Mattingly, is producing an all-access five-part video series on Gamecock Football, entitled "Welcome Home: South Carolina Football." The series will air starting Wednesday, August 10, and continuing for five-straight Wednesdays at 7 p.m. ET on ESPNU. The fifth and final episode will air on the Wednesday following the Gamecocks' season opener against Georgia State.

The series will give fans a behind-the-scenes access to Coach Shane Beamer, the program's assistant coaches, players, and staff, as they prepare for the 2022 season. "This show will give our fans a look at the hard work our team goes through to prepare for the season," said Beamer. "My hope is that as you watch our team play during the season, fans will have an appreciation of what goes into a season, a game and a practice." Camera crews will be embedded in team practices, meetings and behind the scenes activities inside the program. - South Carolina Football

South Carolina defensive tackle Zacch Pickens knows what it's like to get thrown into the fire of SEC football early. He went through that last year, learning from mistakes and successes along the way. Now he's more seasoned, and he's watching a pair of former blue-chip recruit teammates take a similar path. A couple games in, defensive linemen Jordan Burch and Tonka Hemingway have his attention. "They showed up a lot," Pickens said. "I knew they were going to do big things as soon as they got here. Burch and Tonka, they're all like, funny, I enjoy them. They're real cool off the field."

Burch is one of the highest-rated recruits to ever join the program, a five-star prospect ranked No. 8 nationally in his class. He hasn't played a ton of snaps, maybe 20 across two games, but he's made at least two plays that stood out. "Both of them are extremely talented," Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp said. "God's blessed both these guys a lot of ability. But they both are really really smart, very intelligent. They catch on well. They're very coachable in everything that they do. They're two of the best young men you'll ever meet in your life, just as far as who they are as people. So we're very fortunate to have both guys. "The more snaps that they see, the faster they're going to play. And they're gonna be really good football players for us. They need to play more." - Rock Hill Herald

Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson echo the thought that the closer a player is to the ball on any play, the harder it is to stand out. They've also used Kinlaw, a raw but gifted prospect when he enrolled and a multi-millionaire now, as a teaching tool. "We've been showing a lot of clips of Javon playing. You come in, you got good players in front of you, you know what it's supposed to look like," Robinson said. "Lot of times as a young player, you don't know what it looks like. You don't know what good is."

Pickens admitted the struggle of knowing what he was supposed to do last season. "Learning all the plays and not trying to mess up. That's where I got messed up, trying not to mess up and trying to be right and not look crazy out there on the field," he said. "It's improved a lot. I'm doing everything faster, I know the plays faster. When I was a freshman, it was a struggle getting the plays." As a sophomore there's no more learning curve. That's turned to power, knowledge and a path to domination. - The Post and Courier
