Reece Udinski threw two touchdown passes, Milan Howard ran for two more and Richmond beat Davidson 41-0 on Saturday in the first round of the Football Championship Series playoffs. Richmond (9-3), ranked 14th in the FCS coaches poll, will face second-ran ked Sacramento State in the second round. Udinski was 28-of-31 passing for 246 yards. He threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jakob Herres early in the second quarter, and his 30-yarder to Jerry Garcia Jr. about seven minutes later stretched the Spiders' le ad to 24-0.Howard carried the ball 12 times for 73 yards. He broke one tackle, spun and then carried one defender into the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. It was his second score on the day and his first multi-touchdown game . Trailing 24-0 late in the first half, Jayden Waddell drove Davidson (8-4) to the Richmond 8-yard line. But on third-and-goal, he scrambled back to the 25 trying to avoid a sack and then threw an ill-advised underhand toss that was picked off by redshir t freshman Matei Fitz. Jake Larson, Richmond's long placekicker, booted a 39-yard field goal with four seconds left and Richmond recovered a fumble for a touchdown on the ensuing kickoff for a 21-13 win over Delaware on Saturday in a battle of ranked FCS teams. The Spiders wen t 71 yards in 10 plays after the Blue Hens gave up the ball on downs at the Richmond 7. Reece Udinski was 5 of 6 on the drive, including a 45-yard completion on fourth-and-4 that put the ball at the Delaware 25. A spike, a 3-yard run and a spike set up L arson.It was the third field goal for Larson, who connected on a 46-yarder in the first half and a 48-yarder earlier in the fourth quarter, and kept the Spiders (8-2, 6-1 Colonial Athletic Association) tied for the league lead with a showdown with William & Mary next week. Andrew Lopez, the short kicker, kicked a 33-yard field goal in the first half and a 29-yarder in the third quarter for the Spiders. Larson entered the game 5 of 10 on field goals, 3 of 8 from 40-49 yards. Lopez was 7 of 8, 1 of 2 from long range. Both were 2 of 2 from 30-39 yards. Reece Udinski threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more to stake Richmond to a 28-7 lead and the Spiders held off a late rally to post a 31-21 win over Maine in a Colonial Athletic Association game on Saturday. The win keeps the Spiders one game behi nd conference leader New Hampshire heading into their head-to-head battle Saturday at Richmond. Udinski had two touchdown runs in the first quarter and fired a 63-yard scoring strike to Jakob Herres to stake Richmond (6-2, 4-1) to a 21-0 lead after one q uarter. Reece Udinski threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns and Richmond cruised to a 41-10 win over Hampton on Saturday. The Spiders (5-2, 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association) scored the first 17 points of the game and the the last 17 while piling up 498 yards and holding the Pirates (4-3, 1-3) to 255. Udinski opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game when he connected with Jakob Herres for 22 yards. Jer Garcia Jr. scored on a 14-yard run to cap an 80-yard drive. Hampton got on the board with a 7 4-yard catch and run, Malcolm Mays to Darran Butts. The Spiders got that back with Udinski's second TD pass before Hampton got a field goal on the last play of the half to trail 24-10. Richmond's last TD was an 87-yard run by Fonnae Webb. Reece Udinski accounted for two touchdowns and the Richmond defense made them stand up as the Spiders defeated Villanova 20-10 on Saturday. Udinski scored on a 1-yard run and threw to Connor Deveney for a 6-yard score as Richmond took a 14-10 halftime le ad. Reece Udinski threw a career-high five touchdown passes and Richmond opened its Colonial Athletic Association schedule with a 51-7 rout of Stony Brook on Saturday. Udinski was 35-of-42 passing for 357 yards with a pair of scoring throws to Leroy Henley a nd one each to Jasiah Williams, Savon Smith and Connor Deveney. Williams led Richmond (3-1, 1-0) with 10 catches for 112 yards. Udinski threw a screen pass to Smith, who then got a block from Joe More and ran along the right sideline for a 60-yard touchd own that stretched the Spiders' lead to 42-7 midway through the third quarter. Reece Udinski was 35-of-42 passing for 351 yards and two touchdowns, Leroy Henley had his first career 100-yard receiving game, and Richmond beat Lehigh 30-6 on Saturday. Reece Udinksi, the Southern Conference preseason offensive player of the year, passed for 248 yards and a pair of touchdowns as VMI edged Furman 14-13 on Saturday. Nursing a one-point lead into the fourth quarter, VMI played clock control but the strateg y appeared to have backfired as the Paladins were driving with under a minute to go until a flukey turnover with 47 seconds left allowed the Keydets to preserve the win. Furman, which started its final drive pinned at its own 11, had advanced to the VMI 24 when a third-down snap bounced off the hip of Ryan DeLucca, who was in motion behind the line of scrimmage. The ball bounced right to VMI's Carter Johnson, who was crashing through the line of scrimmage, and Johnson wrapped it up. The Maryland football team has added some much needed depth at quarterback. Reece Udinski, a graduate transfer from Virginia Military Institute, announced his commitment to Maryland on Sunday. The 6-foot-4, 224-pound Udinski was named the Southern Confer ence Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for the Football Championship Subdivision Keydets after passing for 3,276 yards with 19 touchdowns and five interceptions in 2019. Carter Johnson scored on a blocked kick in the second quarter and VMI used big scoring plays on offense and defense in the third quarter to defeat Chattanooga 31-24 on Saturday. The Mocs were punting from their 32 when Devin Carper got in on Gabe Borings 's attempt and Carter scooped up the loose ball and stepped into the end zone to put the Keydets ahead 17-10. In the third quarter Reece Udinski found Jakob Herres for a 54-yard touchdown and then Jarrod Richmond scooped up a fumble and rumbled 64 yards for a score, putting the Keydets (5-7, 4-4 Southern Conference) up 31-10. Nick Tiano threw for a touchdown in the third quarter and scored on an 8-yard run with 4:43 left to play to pull the Mocs (6-6, 5-3) within a touchdown but VMI ran out the clock. C hattanooga had a 451-264 advantage in total offense. Herres had eight catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns for VMI while Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks ran for 132 yards for the Mocs. The interception that VMI quarterback Reece Udinski threw on his final pass last season must have stuck with him this past offseason. Udinski's 16th and final interception tied him for the second-most in the FCS. This season, Udinski has cleaned up the m istakes - in fact, better than in any stretch in FCS history. Against Mercer last Saturday, the 6-foot-4 junior pushed his season-opening streak of consecutive passes without an interception to 344, surpassing the FCS single-season and career records of 342 set by Portland State's Jimmy Blanchard in 1999. Udinski has been interception-free while attempting the second-most passes among FCS quarterbacks. Running VMI's Air Raid offense, Udinski has passed for 14 touchdowns and a Southern Conference-high 2, 314 yards. He's completed 218 passes for a 63.4 percentage, up from 57.7 last season. "I just want to be great," Udinski wrote on Twitter. Reece Udinski threw a 61-yard touchdown pass to Jakob Herres late in the game to help VMI snap a 12-game losing skid against The Citadel with a 34-21 victory on Saturday. Brandon Rainey scored on a 3-yard touchdown run that pulled The Citadel (2-4, 0-2 S outhern Conference) to 27-21 with 3:22 to play before Udinski connected with Herres three plays later for a score with 2:18 remaining.Udinski threw three touchdown passes and was 25 of 35 for 335 yards. Reece Udinski threw for two touchdowns including the game-winner in overtime as VMI held on to beat East Tennessee State 31-24 on Saturday night. Udinski fired a 21-yard pass to Javeon Lara to make it 31-24 in the overtime period for the Keydets (2-1) vi ctory. Udinski was 38-of-64 passing for 281 yards. Alex Ramsey ran for 57 yards and two scores. VMI trailed 24-21 with 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter when Grant Clemons, who had missed two pervious field goal attempts, hit from 30 yards to tie the game and send it into overtime.After a low-scoring first half ended in a 7-7 tie at halftime, VMI took a 14-7 lead early in the third quarter on Ramsey's 3-yard run. Tyler Keltner kicked a 37-yard field goal for the Buccaneers (1-2), closing it t o 14-10 with 6:14 left in the third. Trey Mitchell took ETSU into the lead in the fourth quarter with a 20-yard scoring pass to Anthony Spagnoletti to make it 17-14 with 10:29 remaining. Reece Udinski threw four touchdown passes and Alex Ramsey ran for two more as VMI won its first home opener since 2015 by routing Division II Mars Hill, 63-21 on Saturday. Udinski hooked up with Javeon Lara on a 50-yard touchdown in a 56-17 loss at Marsh all last week and found him with two more against the Mountain Lions, including a 26-yard strike less than three minutes into the game. Lara led the team with seven touchdown catches a year ago and had a 12-yard snare in the third quarter to give him thr ee through the first two games. VMI (1-1) wore a tribute to former player and coach Tim Maypray on their helmet for the home opener. Maypray was a standout wide receiver at the school and later in the Canadian Football League with Montreal, winning the G rey Cup in 2010, and with Ottawa. He served as running back coach for the Keydets before moving on to coach at Davidson College. Maypray, 30, died in January.Ramsey ran eight yards for a touchdown midway through the first quarter and added a six-y ard score in the third. Chima Kpaduwa capped the day with a 75-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter as the Keydets finished with 220 yards on 35 carries.
