2022 ALL-MOUNTAIN WEST FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM: DL - Dom Peterson, Sr., Nevada,...For Peterson, it is his fourth-career All-Mountain West honor, and second selection to the Second Team, while Taua earns his third All-MW honor, and Williams his second. Peterson, in addition to his second-team selections in 2020 and this season, was named to the First Team in 2019 and honorable mention in 2021. Taua, the 2018 Mountain West Freshman of the Year, is a two-time honorable mention (2019, 2022) with a second-team honor (2020). Williams earned his first honorable mention in 2020. Peterson earned his fourth All-Mountain West nod with another dominant season anchoring the Wolf Pack's front four.

Peterson wrapped his final season with 6.0 sacks (10th in the conference) and 13.0 tackles-for-loss among his 34 total tackles. His disruptive play in the trenches contributed also to Nevada's takeaways, as Peterson forced a pair of fumbles on strip sacks, and led the Mountain West, and ranked tied for third in the country, with three fumble recoveries. Peterson's 2022 campaign also saw him rise up Nevada's career rankings in multiple categories. He finishes his career ranked second in Wolf Pack history with 55.5 tackles-for-loss, and third with 28.0 sacks. - Nevada Football

Nevada's much-anticipated football game against Colorado State will be played in primetime on a Friday night on national television. The meeting between the Wolf Pack and the Rams - under former Nevada head coach Jay Norvell - kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7 and will air on FS1. It will be the Wolf Pack's first Mountain West game at home in the 2022 season. The Nevada-CSU game was one of seven on the Pack's schedule to have broadcast and start-time details released Thursday, as conferences and networks made their first round of announcements for the upcoming season.

Nevada will also play a Friday game at Air Force on Sept. 23 (5 p.m., FS1) in what will be its MW opener. Previously, the Air Force and Colorado State games were slotted for Saturday games, on Sept. 24 and Oct. 8, respectively. Later in the season, the Pack will play four straight games on CBS Sports Network with 7:30 p.m. kickoffs. Three of those games - against San Diego State, Boise State and Fresno State - will be played at Mackay Stadium, with the road game coming at San Jose State. - Reno Gazette Journal

Everyone is down to one final chance to underestimate Dom Peterson. Nevada's veteran defensive lineman is back for a fifth and final season of college football, this time as the leader of a re-tooled Wolf Pack defense. That won't stop the questions, though. They usually center on his size - height, in particular - and whether he's capable of handling the interior, often a jumble of bodies right after the snap. It's just more of the same for Peterson, who has always had doubters, beginning with being lightly recruited out of Narbonne (Harbor City, Calif.). More recently, the doubts extended to NFL teams and draft consultants, who raised some familiar questions even after Peterson had nine tackles for loss (including five sacks) while routinely being team-blocked last season.

Nevada lists him at 6-feet, 285 pounds. "I had a little buzz, but I had a lot of what I want to call 'differentials.' Stuff going on, politics; you know, 'the height' and 'the size' and all that plays a big part," Peterson said after a recent practice at Wolf Pack Park. "So I had a little buzz based off my stats, but once they start going to the height and stuff, that's where I kind of started losing interest. So I think for this year, I just need to show them (that) against good teams, I can hold a point (on the line of scrimmage)." - Reno Gazette Journal

Nevada was largely without two defensive starters in last week's win against Fresno State but expects to get one of those players back fully and the other to be a larger contributor. Starting cornerback EJ Muhammad, who missed the Fresno State game with a concussion, has been cleared for Friday's game against San Jose State. "He was under concussion protocol, and those things are tricky," Nevada coach Jay Norvell said. "You never quite know when they're going to release them. There was an opportunity he was going to play, but he just didn't work through the protocol. He's been cleared to practice (this week) and has been out on the field and I anticipate him being ready."

Meanwhile, Dom Peterson, the Wolf Pack's star defensive lineman, played only a couple of snaps against Fresno State with a sprained ankle. He's expected to get more reps against a strong Spartans offensive line. "It's hard to really predict," Norvell said. "I really thought he'd play (against Fresno State). I knew he wouldn't be 100 percent last week. But I think he'll be better this week, and he'll have a few more days to get better. He'll play more than he did last week. I don't know how much more, but I think it'll be pretty hard to keep him out of this game." - Nevada Sports Net

Nevada coach Jay Norvell has a received a new five-year contract that runs through the 2024 season, the school said Tuesday. Norvell, who is 18-20 overall in three seasons, is coming off back-to-back winning seasons and consecutive bowl appearances after going 3-9 in his first year at Nevada in 2017. The new contract includes a guaranteed base salary and compensation totaling $625,000 per season plus supplemental bonuses based on athletic and academic success, athletic director Doug Knuth said. Knuth said they also agreed to boost the total salary pool available for Norvell's assistants by $250,000 beginning this fall, something Norvell said is important to growing the program. Norvell went 8-5 with a victory over Arkansas State in the Arizona Bowl in 2018. Nevada was 7-5 last season and played in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. - AP College Football
