South Alabama center James Jackson has been selected for the 2023 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, which takes place Jan. 28 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. Jackson was a two-year starter at center for the Jaguars after transferring in from Mississippi State in 2021. The 6-foot-3, 320-pound native of Pascagoula, Miss., anchored a South Alabama offensive line that helped the Jaguars go 10-3 and reach the New Orleans Bowl in 2022.   South Alabama landed a verbal commitment from an SEC offensive line transfer on Wednesday. James Jackson, who started two games at center at Mississippi State in 2020, is headed to the Jaguars. He will graduate from MSU in May and will have two seasons of eligibility at South Alabama beginning this fall. The 6-foot-3, 330-pound Jackson grew up in Pascagoula, Miss., just over the state line from Mobile. He was a 3-star recruit in Mississippi State's 2017 signing class. Jackson, who redshirted as a true freshman at Mississippi State, has played both offensive and defensive line in his college career. He played 12 games at defensive tackle in 2018 and 2019 before moving to offense and playing in 10 games last season, starting against Kentucky and Texas A&M. Jackson is the fourth FBS transfer, and second offensive lineman, to commit to South Alabama since Kane Wommack took over as head coach in December. - Birmingham News

Two Mississippi State players are potentially on their way out. A source with direct knowledge of the situation confirmed to The Dispatch Tuesday afternoon that senior kicker Jace Christmann and junior offensive lineman James Jackson are set to transfer. Jackson has already entered the transfer portal, while Christmann's status is unclear. Matt Zenitz of AL.com first reported the Christmann news. Joel Coleman of Cowbell Corner first reported Jackson's entry. Jackson, the Pascagoula native saw time at both offensive and defensive line. He made his first career start in a Sept. 10 loss at Kentucky and appeared in 10 of 11 games this fall. - The Dispatch
