San Diego State running back Chance Bell is aiming to bring "explosive" power to the football field this fall. To that end, the super senior from Burbank joined wide receiver teammates Jesse Matthews and Tyrell Shavers doing some private workouts that fo cused on plyometrics. The routines involve jump training that exerts maximum force on muscles in short bursts. "I couldn't just keep doing the same thing, regular lifting and maintenance and cone drills, and expect different results," said Bell, who join ed teammate Caden McDonald in Las Vegas this week for Mountain West football media days. "The plyometrics (develops) explosive power. Running into contact and running through contact is, obviously, really important for a running back."The 5-foot-1 0 Bell said he has added 15 pounds of good weight, increasing his frame to 200 pounds. "That will all translate in what I'm hoping to do, get to another level and having a productive season," said Bell, SDSU's top returning running back after rushing for 341 yards and four touchdowns last season. Bell and Jordan Byrd, another super senior returning for the Aztecs, came out of spring practice as the team's starting running backs. The more bruising Bell is Mr. Inside to Byrd's Mr. Outside, if you will. - San Diego Union Tribune

Running back is again one of the deepest positions on the team. Senior Chase Jasmin (79 carries, 366 yards, 4 TDs) and juniors Chance Bell (89-384, 2 TDs), Jordan Byrd (78-355, 3 TDs) and Kaegun Williams (30-110) each showed glimpses of promise a year ag o. In fact, Byrd rushed for a game-high 139 yards in the 2019 New Mexico Bowl and can be a game-changer with his breakaway speed. But the unknown at the position, the intriguing X Factor, is senior Greg Bell. The 6-foot, 205-pound Bell transferred in a y ear ago but missed the 2019 season because of a freak eye injury suffered in an off-campus training session before fall camp opened.Bell originally committed to SDSU out of Bonita Vista High, where he rushed for 2,632 yards, 34 touchdowns in 2015 and led the Barons to the school's first section championship. He was a non-qualifier out of high school, went to Arizona Western junior college for two years and then Nebraska, where he started the first three games of the 2018 season for the Cornhusker s. Bell carried 35 times for 173 yards (4.9 yards/carry) before deciding to return home for family reasons. Bell has been waiting two years for this moment. Let's see what he does with it. - San Diego Union Tribune

New Mexico State fumbled the ball on its first play from scrimmage, and Ryan Agnew tossed a 2-yard pass to Daniel Bellinger two plays later for the Aztecs (3-0). Agnew was 16-of-25 passing for 106 yards. Josh Adkins was 26 of 41 for 299 yards passing and threw one touchdown pass, a 35-yarder to Robert Downs III for New Mexico State (0-3).
