2021 ALL-SEC FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DL Sam Williams, Ole Miss,...Williams has a school record 12.5 sacks on the season, which ranks fourth in the FBS. His 56 total tackles are the most by a Rebel defensive lineman since 2018. Williams leads the Rebels in both tackles for loss (15.0) and forced fumbles (4). The Montgomery, Alabama, is third in the Ole Miss career record book (modern day) with 22.5 career sacks. He also ranks seventh all-time at Ole Miss in career TFLs with 32.5.   Ole Miss football received news that linebacker Sam Williams will return to the field this fall after his sexual battery charges were dropped on Tuesday. He started practicing with the team again on Sunday. "With no pending charges, Sam Williams has returned to football activities," Ole Miss Athletics said. "We defer to his legal council on questions regarding his case." In July, the Ole Miss linebacker and defensive lineman was arrested for sexual battery, according to a police report obtained by the Clarion Ledger. The report states that Williams was arrested on the morning of July 24 and was released later that afternoon after paying a $25,000 bond. Head coach Lane Kiffin was asked to speak of the linebacker's return in his weekly press conference. "To my knowledge, Sam had been working out. He wasn't working out with us because he was away from all team activities," Kiffin said. "But we did see him a little bit. We worked him in yesterday, and obviously, he has a ways to go, but you can see why. Really, that's our first time with him with no spring ball. You can see flashes of why he's shown to be a really good player at times." - Daily Mississippian

Ole Miss linebacker Sam Williams has been reinstated to football activities as of Tuesday after the legal charges against him were dropped. Williams was suspended on July 25 after he was charged by Oxford police with sexual battery. Per a statement from the Ole Miss athletic department, that case is no longer active and Williams can resume team activity. "With no pending charges, Sam Williams has returned to football activities," the statement reads. "We defer to his legal counsel on questions regarding his case."

Williams led Ole Miss with six sacks in 2019. The senior from Alabama came to Ole Miss after leading all junior college players in sacks in 2018. Williams also finished with 9.5 tackles for loss, five quarterback hurries, one interception and one forced fumble last season. "To my knowledge, Sam had been working out," Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said. "He'd not been working out with us because he was separated from all team activities. But we did see him a little bit. We worked him in yesterday. Obviously he's got a ways to go but you can see flashes of why he's shown to be a really good player at times." - The Clarion Ledger
