Former Georgia football star linebacker Adam Anderson was indicted by a grand jury in Athens on Tuesday for felony rape. Anderson was charged in the Superior Court of Clarke County for an incident at an Athens residence on Oct. 29 involving a 21-year old female. He has been out on bond since November 17, but barred from the Athens area except for legal matters and to return for a private workout in March for NFL teams. Anderson is scheduled to be arraigned on June 13. Steve Sadow, Anderson's attorney, s aid Anderson will plead not guilty to the rape charge. The indictment comes two days before the NFL draft. Anderson was considered a likely first round draft pick before he was arrested. - Athens Daily Banner

Georgia outside linebacker Adam Anderson was released from the Athens-Clarke County jail on $25,000 bond Wednesday, one week after being charged with rape. Anderson's attorney, Steve Sadow, told The Associated Press Athens-Clarke County Superior Court ju dge Eric Norris "decided that bond was appropriate and that puts us in position to prove (Anderson's) innocence." Sadow said in a statement last week "Adam is innocent of the charge brought against him and intends to vigorously defend himself in court." During Wednesday's hearing, a second woman said she was the victim of an alleged 2020 incident involving Anderson in neighboring Oconee County. Anderson remains under indefinite suspension by Georgia. He has missed No. 1 Georgia's last two games and will not play in Saturday's game against Charleston Southern. - AP College Football

Georgia outside linebacker Adam Anderson was booked at the Athens-Clarke County jail Wednesday night after being charged with rape. Anderson's attorney, Steve Sadow, said in a statement released to The Associated Press on Wednesday night that Anderson "v oluntarily surrendered" at the Athens-Clarke County Sherriff's office. Jail records show Anderson was booked at 7:45 p.m. "Adam is innocent of the charge brought against him and intends to vigorously defend himself in court," Sadow said in the statement. "He will seek release on bond. Once again, Adam hopes and prays that the UGA community and the public keep an open mind and afford him the presumption of innocence that the law demands." Anderson was suspended by Georgia last week while being investigat ed by Athens-Clarke County Police for the alleged rape.After Sadow made an unsuccessful appeal for Anderson's suspension to be lifted as he was not yet charged, Anderson did not play in No. 1 Georgia's 43-6 win over Missouri last week and remains under suspension for Saturday's game at Tennessee. Georgia linebacker Adam Anderson's senior season is on hold while he is being investigated by Athens police on a rape allegation. No charges have been filed, but Anderson has been suspended and will not play in No. 1 Georgia's game against Missouri on Sa turday, according to his attorney, Steve Sadow. Sadow told The Associated Press that Anderson was suspended by Georgia "pending the investigation." According to an Athens-Clarke County Police incident report obtained by The Associated Press, a 21-year-ol d woman reported the alleged rape Oct. 29.According to the incident report, she told police she went to an Athens residence on Oct. 29 after having some drinks and woke up on a bed while Anderson was having sexual intercourse with her. The woman t old officers the sex was not consensual and that she was able to leave the residence. Athens-Clarke County Police Lt. Shaun Barnett told the AP: "The investigation is still ongoing."
