Brenden Schooler, Texas, Player News

Since he is a graduate transfer, UT receiver Brenden Schooler got his first look at the Texas Tech defense on Saturday. Schooler, though, did have an in-depth scouting report for one of the Red Raiders. Colin Schooler, his brother, is a graduate transfer and linebacker at Texas Tech. The Schoolers were supposed to play together at Arizona this season. Colin had been a three-year starter for the Wildcats, and Brenden decided to join his younger brother after spending four years at Oregon. Both, however, left after the Pac-12 postponed its season in August. Both Schoolers had good games. Targeted 10 times, Brenden led Texas with seven catches. One of those was a 3-yard touchdown that gave Texas a 31-21 first-half lead. Colin, meanwhile, recorded seven ta ckles. - Austin American Statesman

Texas continues to work the grad transfer market and expects to add a Pac-12 castoff in receiver Brenden Schooler, a source familiar with the situation told the American-Statesman. Schooler spent most of his career at Oregon, piling up 43 catches for 521 yards and four touchdowns from 2016-19. He transferred to Arizona for the 2020 season but the league canceled football over coronavirus fears. Horns247 first reported the transfer, although it's still unclear when Schooler will join the team and whether he'll play in the season opener against UTEP. Graduate transfers are eligible immediately. Texas coaches have felt the receiver group needed more depth. UT signed Michigan grad transfer Tarik Black during the offseason. Now, they're adding another one i n Schooler. - Austin American Statesman

In early March, about a week before the shutdown, Colin Schooler could dream big. His big brother, Brenden, recently had joined the Arizona Wildcats football team, and Colin envisioned playing alongside his best friend for the first time since high schoo l. "It's going to be a lot easier with him out here," Colin Schooler said. "Whether we're sitting at home or doing whatever, it's just gonna feel like I have some family with me - because I do." In an earlier interview, Brenden Schooler imagined what it would be like to end his college career playing in a bowl game with his younger brother. "It'd definitely be one of the highlights of my life," said Brenden, a graduate transfer from Oregon."You always just would look back at that moment and say, 'Oh, we got to share this moment together,' and that'd be pretty special." You know what comes next in this narrative. A pandemic the likes of which hasn't been seen in 100 years. The abrupt and indefinite cancellation of NCAA sports. Lingering uncertain ty about the 2020 college football season. The Schooler brothers are both seniors in terms of their football eligibility. They both aspire to play in the NFL. - Arizona Star News

Mario Cristobal wished senior wide receiver Brenden Schooler well after he entered the transfer portal on Tuesday. "We support him and his choice," the coach said. Schooler missed the first four games of the season after injuring his foot in August. He h ad two catches for 44 yards this season.
