Former Stanford defensive lineman Thomas Booker was drafted by the Houston Texas in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft on Saturday. "I'm so excited for Thomas Booker," Stanford head coach David Shaw said. "He's starting his career with Lovie Smith, on e of the best defensive minds in the NFL. I know he will be a great addition to the defense, to the locker room and to the Houston community." The 6-foot-4, 310-pound senior was a four-star recruit who held offers from many elite programs, including Clem son, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan. The Maryland native elected to come to the Farm, and posted a four-year career filled with accolades. Booker was a two-time member of the All-Pac-12 second team defensive line and was named to the All-Pa c-12 first team all-purpose/special teams squad in 2020. In 2021, Booker recorded 59 tackles, five of which were for a loss. He notched 50 tackles again in 2019 and was on pace to do so in 2020 before the season was cut to six games because of COVID-19. - The Stanford Daily

Defensive end Thomas Booker chose to return for his senior season. Earning double majors in economics and communication, he is on track to graduate after the 2022 winter quarter. Booker finished with 21 tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack while ma king six starts last season. He also blocked two extra points and recovered a fumble. "We're looking for a defense to be dominant, getting back to our Stanford defense where we're making tackles for loss, getting after the passer, we're stopping the run on first and second down," Fox said. Cal and Stanford had just one player each selected for first-or second-team preseason All-Pac-12 honors. Stanford senior defensive end Thomas Booker was a first-team All-Pac-12 selection both as a defensive lineman and as an all-purpose special teams pla yer. The Cardinal also had five honorable mentions: junior running back Austin Jones, senior wide receiver Michael Wilson, junior offensive tackle Walter Rouse, junior cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly, and junior punter Ryan Sanborn.Booker has been among the most productive Stanford defensive linemen over the last several years and earned preseason fourth-team all-American honors from Phil Steele as well as preseason first-team all Pac-12 honors from Athlon. In six games last season, Booker recorded 21 t otal tackles, including three for loss, and one sack. As a special teams player, Booker recorded two blocks, leading to his first-team placement in the preseason Pac-12 media voting. - Oakland Tribune
