Oklahoma wide receiver transfer Charleston Rambo announced Tuesday afternoon on social media that he will be coming to the University of Miami "to close out this chapter of my collegiate career and move forward into the next chamber of my life." Rambo, a 6-1, 175-pound player out of Cedar Hill, Texas, was a four-star recruit and rated by Rivals.com as the 16th-best player in Texas as a prep star. He just finished his junior season with the Sooners, catching 25 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns. His breakout season, however, was in 2019, when Rambo caught 43 passes for 743 yards and five touchdowns. As an Oklahoma freshman, Rambo caught eight passes for 125 yards and a touchdown. - Miami Herald

Redshirt junior receiver Charleston Rambo has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, he announced via Twitter on Monday. On his career, Rambo totaled 76 catches for 1,180 yards and nine touchdowns. He entered the 2020 season with high expectations, but was overshadowed by the play of freshman receiver Marvin Mims, who led OU in receiving yards and touchdowns. - Oklahoma Daily

OU receiver Charleston Rambo doesn't want to be selfish. But he needs the football in his hands more. He needs to get in the end zone more. "Just being humble and trying to carry a team, that's some stuff I need to do," Rambo said. As OU prepares to face No. 22-ranked Texas in Saturday' annual Red River Showdown, the Sooners' star receiver wants to do more. Last season, he got off to a fast start. He caught four touchdowns and totaled 215 yards through the first three games. This season, he's only scored twice and amassed 171 receiving yards. But Rambo also wants to lead and help young, talented players like quarterback Spencer Rattler.

"I know he's young," Rambo said. "I need to be there more for him, talk through things. And bring up our O-line, talk to our running backs. Just try to key in our offensive people, get everybody locked in. Rambo and offensive lineman Creed Humphrey have become the offense's vocal leaders. They're often the ones loudest in adversity. "We need to start keying things together and get these Ws," Rambo said. - Daily Oklahoman

Charleston Rambo's breakout 2019 campaign (743 receiving yards, five receiving touchdowns, 17.3 yards per catch) went under the radar because of CeeDee Lamb, OU's lone All-America selection last season. Lamb is now a Dallas Cowboy, opening the door for Rambo to be the Sooners' top pass-catcher and making that jump has generally worked out over the last five years. When star OU receiver Sterling Shepard left Norman following the 2015 season, Dede Westbrook became "the guy" in 2016. After Westbrook departed for the pros, Marquise Brown became the Sooners' top target for two years. Then, following Brown's matriculation to the NFL, Lamb asserted himself as OU's No. 1 receiver. In terms of other experienced receivers, there's little to get in Rambo's way of that being the case for himself this upcoming year. - Norman Transcript

OU receivers coach Dennis Simmons' next task is shaping his former freshmen in that mold. Charleston Rambo, the leading receiver back next season, will factor into that mission, too, coach Lincoln Riley added. The Sooners are again re-establishing new threats downfield, just as they did after the careers of Sterling Shepard, Dede Westbrook and Marquise Brown. "That's the next step that we always talk about. We've got a lot of guys on this team on both sides of the ball, skill, everything, that are prime to make that [jump]," Riley said. "This is not new to them. For us to be the team we want to be, they are going to have to take the next step and that's often the hardest step to take."

Rambo's transformation is well underway. Before spring practices were suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, he reported for duty with an improved physique. "His body has really, probably more period than I can ever remember, has really started to change and really develop. I'm excited about that," Riley said. Rambo was a dangerous target early last year, totaling three 100-yard receiving games in the first four weeks of the season. That led to a breakout campaign of 743 yards and 5 TDs for the year. "We are going to need him to lead us and lead that group because he is one of our older, more experienced guys in that room," Riley said. "There's going to be a lot of young guys that are going to be asked to contribute and are going to get a lot of opportunities. But you've got to have leaders in that room and he has to be that guy for us. Period." - Norman Transcript
