Deonta McMahon rushed for two touchdowns, the McNeese defense intercepted three passes, despite allowing 455 yards passing, and the Cowboys held off Incarnate Word 28-20 on Saturday. Colby Richardson, Jarrius Wallace and Mason Kinsey each intercepted a p ass by Cameron Ward, who completed 39 of 59 passes for 455 yards with two touchdowns, three interceptions and a lost fumble. The McNeese defense had 10 sacks, including Kordell Williams' stop on the final offensive play by UIW. Cody Orgeron completed 10- of-12 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown for McNeese (3-4, 2-2 Southland). He also rushed for 57 yards, moving past 1,000 for his career, and a score. Orgeron found Jamal Pettigrew on fourth-and-1 on a play-action pass for a 49-yard touchdown to open t he scoring. McMahon scored his two touchdowns in the first half to give McNeese a 21-0 lead. Cody Orgeron threw for two touchdowns and Josh Parker ran for two as McNeese defeated Northwestern State 35-17 on Saturday. Parker's second score, on a 19-yard run to cap a nine-play, five-minute drive, staked the Cowboys (2-4, 1-2 Southland Conference) to a 28-3 lead midway through the third quarter. Orgeron completed 16 of 25 passes for 176 yards. Parker gained 74 yards on 16 carries. Parker's first touchdown came after Northwestern State was pinned at its 1-yard line and managed a 32-yard punt, givin g the Cowboys a short field. McNeese scored in three plays. Northwestern State's Zach Clement came on in relief at quarterback and scored twice late for the Demons (1-5, 1-2). Clement was 8-of-15 passing for 147 yards and rushed for a net of minus-7 yard s with two sacks. Eddie Godina kicked a 26-yard field goal as the Demons took the early 3-0 lead. Mason Pierce returned the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown and Cody Orgeron tossed a 3-yard scoring pass to Josh Matthews early in the fourth quarter to help McNeese rally past Southern 31-24 in nonconference play on Saturday. The first half was all Ladarius Skelton and Southern after Pierce's TD return for the Cowboys (1-2). Skelton had scoring throws of 42 yards to Travis Tucker and 7 yards to Devon Benn to put the Jaguars (1-2) up 14-7 with 5:50 left in the first quarter. After a Jacob Abel 32-yard field goal pulled McNeese within 14-10, Skelton struck again with a 42-yard scoring strike to Ethan Howard for a 21-10 halftime lead.The tide turned on Southern's first possession of the second half when Jarrius Wallace intercepted Skelton and returned it 21 yards to the Jaguars' 26-yard line. A penalty on the Jaguars moved the ball the the 13 and Stephon Huderson scored on first down to cut the Cowboys' deficit to four just 2:41 into the third quarter. Abel's second field goal - a 25-yar der - had McNeese within a point heading to the final quarter. Orgeron's TD strike made it 28-21 and Abel booted his third field goal to push the lead to 10 with 7:59 remaining. Orgeron completed just 7 of 16 passes for 75 yards for McNeese. FEB 22 SOUTHLAND OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cody Orgeron, McNeese, Senior, Quarterback, Mandeville, La.,...Trailing by 14 with just under three minutes remaining, Orgeron connected with Mason Pierce for a 26-yard touchdown to cut the Texans' lead in h alf. After McNeese recovered the onside kick, Orgeron found Trevor Begue in the endzone with 35 ticks on the clock to send the game into overtime. The heroics continued for the son of LSU head coach Ed Orgeron as he dashed 19 yards for the winning score in the second overtime period. Cody Orgeron threw a pair of late fourth-quarter touchdown passes and broke loose for a 19-yard touchdown run in the second overtime, leading McNeese to a 40-37 victory over Tarleton State on Saturday night to kick off the Football Championship Subdivisi on spring season. Frank Wilson, the first African-American head coach at McNeese, made his Cowboys' debut while the Texans played their first game as a Division I member. A New Orleans native, Wilson was named the Cowboys’ 17th head coach on Jan. 16, 2 020 after spending the previous four seasons as head coach at UTSA.Tarleton State moved to D-I and the Western Athletic Conference in July. The Texans will compete as an independent program since the WAC dropped football in 2012. As a Division II member (1994-2019), the Texans were 5-8 against D-I opponents, including a 37-26 win at Stephen F. Austin in a 2019 season opener. Orgeron, son of LSU coach Ed Orgeron, threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Mason Pierce with 2:46 remaining to pull the Cowboy s to 31-24, and tossed a 12-yard score to Trevor Begue with 35 seconds left to force overtime. Justin Pratt carried 27 times for 206 yards and two touchdowns to help McNeese State beat Lamar 27-3 on Saturday. The Cowboys' last 200-yard rushing came 11 years ago when Toddrick Pendland rushed for 242 yards on Nov. 8, 2008, against Stephen F. Austin. Cody Orgeron was 14-of-22 passing for 238 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions for McNeese (7-5, 5-4 Southland Conference). He also carried it 15 times for 46 yards and a score. The Cowboys extended their winning-season streak to 15 straight y ears, which is the longest in the FCS after Jacksonville State lost. Shane Johnson passed for 110 yards on just six completions for Lamar (4-8, 2-7). The Cardinals were held to 210 total yards. Cody Orgeron threw two touchdown passes to Trevor Begue and D'Andre Hicks returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown to propel McNeese State to a 30-20 victory over Northwestern State on Saturday night. Northwestern State jumped out to a 7-0 lead on its first possession when Jared West scored on a 9-yard run to cap an eight-play, 53-yard drive. Hicks took the ensuing kickoff all the way to the end zone, but Bailey Raborn's point-after kick was blocked and left the Cowboys (6-4, 4-3 Southland Conference ) trailing 7-6. Daniel Justino's 37-yard field goal gave the Demons (1-8, 1-5) a 10-6 lead after one quarter. Raborn booted a 23-yard field goal 46 seconds into the second quarter to pull McNeese within 10-9, but Shelton Eppler hooked up with Quan Shorts for a 22-yard scoring strike with 11:09 left and Northwestern State took a 17-9 lead into halftime.Orgeron and Begue connected for their first TD from 27 yards out and Orgeron hit J'uan Gross for the 2-point conversion to knot the score at 17. Ju stino's 21-yard field goal put the Demons up 20-17 after three quarters. McNeese took the lead for good on Orgeron's 3-yard TD toss to Begue with 11:09 remaining in the game and Raborn kicked two more field goals in the final 8:14 to complete the scoring and wrap up the Cowboys' fourth straight victory. Orgeron finished 16-of-18 passing for 191 yards. Justin Pratt was the game's top rusher with 87 yards on 29 carries. McNeese had a 117-20 advantage in yards rushing. Cody Orgeron accounted for three touchdowns and McNeese pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 33-10 victory over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday night. Orgeron was 12-of-25 passing for 162 yards and threw a pair of touchdown passes to Cyron Sutton, who f inished with five catches for 55 yards. Orgeron added 73 yards on the ground which included a 30-yard touchdown run. Trae Self tossed an 8-yard TD pass to Josh McGowen in the first quarter for Stephen F. Austin (1-7, 1-4). Storm Ruiz kicked a 40-yard field goal that pulled the Lumberjacks to 13-10 at the end the third quarter before the Cowboys scored three touchdowns in th e fourth. Cody Orgeron passed for 303 yards, two touchdowns and an interception and ran for 80 yards and a score to help McNeese beat Houston Baptist 42-27 on Saturday. Houston Baptist cut the deficit to within one touchdown at 14-7, 21-14 and 28-20, but the Cowbo ys scored back-to-back touchdowns to push the lead to 42-20 with 2:56 left in the game. Elijah Mack gave the Cowboys (4-4, 2/3 Southland Conference) the lead for good with a 1-yard TD run that capped the opening drive of the game. After the Huskies (4-4, 1-3) had a three-and-out on their first possession, Trevor Begue scored on a 31-yard TD pass from Orgeron to make it 14-0. Begue had nine catches for 121 yards and a touchdown. Cyron Sutton added six catches for 116 yards and a score. Cody Orgeron threw three touchdowns and his 33-yard score to Trevor Begue with 2:21 left gave McNeese a 38-34 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday. McNeese (3-3, 1-2 Southland) built a 24-3 lead with 5½ minutes to play before halftime. The Lions rallied before intermission when Chason Virgil threw a 10-yard TD pass to C.J. Turner. Southern Louisiana (3-3, 2-1) forced a three-and-out and scored again when backup quarterback Cole Kelley threw a 31-yard score to Lorenzo Nunez to reduce the deficit to 24-17. Cody Orgeron threw two scores and McNeese held off a late Southern comeback to beat the Jaguars 34-28 on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams. Elijah Mack's 3-yard touchdown run put McNeese up 34-14 with 5:25 left to play. Southern responde d with a 4-play, 75-yard drive to make it 34-21. McNeese recovered the on-side kick, and the Jaguars defense forced a three-and-out. Bailey Raborn's 37-yard punt went out of bounds at the Southern 1-yard line with 2:36 left.Undeterred, Southern pu t together a 10-play, 99-yard scoring drive in just under two minutes that ended when Glendon McDaniel plunged in from a yard out.
