Tommy Doyle, a five-year member of the Miami University football program, was selected in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. He was the 161st overall pick in this year's draft and is the last offensive lineman drafted from Miami since Brandon Brooks was taken in the third round of the 2012 Draft by the Houston Texans. Doyle is a two-time first-team All-MAC performer with expertise at both tackle positions. He started 16 games at left tackle during both the 2019 and 2020 seasons and has 14 starts at right tackle from 2017-18. He also earned Academic All-MAC in 2019 and 2020. In 2019, Doyle was part of an offensive line that allowed just 26 sacks in 14 games and as the RedHawks went on to win its first MAC Championship since 2010. That same year Doyle was named the team's Offensive Power Player of the Year. - Miami OH Football

The Mid-American Conference (MAC) has announced the postponement of all scheduled fall contests, as well as MAC championships, due to continuing concerns related to the COVID-19 global pandemic. The Council of Presidents unanimously voted to take this action with the health and safety of its student-athletes, coaches and communities as its top priority. It is the intention of the membership to provide competitive opportunities for the student-athletes in these sports during the spring semester of 2021. The fall sports affected are men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's soccer, women's soccer and women's volleyball. At this time, there have been no decisions made regarding winter sports. - Mid-American Conference

The Mid-American Conference will adopt at least two football-related austerity measures as a way of reducing costs for its member schools, according to a report. The Toledo Blade reported the conference will reduce the size of travel rosters to conference games ahead of the 2020 football season. The number of players allowed to travel for away games varies by conference. MAC rules allowed up to 76 players and will now allow 70. By comparison, the Zips had sent 70 on the road, and UA athletics department officials could not say how that would change. Additionally, the MAC mandated that hotel stays the night before home games, a common practice in collegiate football, would be eliminated, a move UA director of athletics Larry Williams mentioned was a possibility in his Thursday news conference announcing cuts to the department's budget. - Akron Beacon Journal
