Following his unanimous All-American season, former Georgia Tech punter Pressley Harvin received a solid indicator of his NFL draft prospects Wednesday. The winner of the Ray Guy Award as the nation's top punter, Harvin was one of four punters who was re cognized by the NFL as a scouting combine invitee. Harvin is vying to become Tech's first punter draftee since Durant Brooks in 2008. The combine will not take place in Indianapolis this year because of COVID-19. Workouts will be conducted at prospects' Pro Days. Interviews and psychological testing will be conducted virtually, and in-person medical exams will be limited. The naming of combine invitees was done to recognize them as top prospects for the draft. Tech's Pro Day will be held March 16. The o ther punters invited are Drue Chrisman (Ohio State), Max Duffy (Kentucky) and James Smith (Cincinnati). - Atlanta Journal Constitution

2020 ALL-ACC FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES/MEDIA): P - Pressley Harvin III, Georgia Tech, 161,...Harvin leads the nation with a 48.0-yard punting average this season. To put his whopping 48.0-yard average into perspective, the margin between Harvin's aver age and the third-best average in the nation (46.7 - Washington State's Oscar Draguicevich) is the same as the margin between Draguicevich and the nation's ninth-best average (45.4 - San Diego State's Tanner Kuljian). In addition to the 48.0-yard a verage, 49% of Harvin's 45 punts this season have traveled 50 or more yards, 47% were fair caught, 40% were downed inside the opponent's 20 yard line and only 17% were returned. Thanks in large part to those gaudy numbers, Georgia Tech ranks second natio nally as a team in net punting (44.6-yard average). - Georgia Tech Football

Entering Friday's games, Harvin was fourth nationally at 47.7 yards per punt, his best season average to this point (he's second at Tech in career average behind Brooks) and on track to break Tech's single-season record, held by Rodney Williams (45.6 yar ds, set in 1997). He has twice been recognized as the Ray Guy Award's national punter of the week. But more important to Harvin, the Jackets stood third in FBS in net punting at 45 yards per punt before Friday's games. "That's a team one," Harvin said, e xplaining net punting's significance. "I could care less about my average. It's the team average I'm more concerned about."Harvin's excellence this season in repeatedly connecting his cuneiform bones to football sweet spots can be traced back to l ast winter and spring. Particularly when quarantining measures freed up his time, Harvin returned to the basics, training by himself on the fields at Tech's Campus Recreation Center. "I just really took advantage of the time to break all of my punting st uff down, get better step by step, put together," he said. "And that hard work is really actually starting to pay off." - Atlanta Journal Constitution

A fake punt for a touchdown. A fumble recovery in the end zone for another score. A blocked field goal in the final seconds of regulation to stay in the game. Georgia Tech's rebuilding season got plenty of material for the highlight reel on Saturday. And Miami's season took a turn in a very bad direction. Antwan Owens blocked a Miami chip-shot field goal in the final seconds of regulation, Jordan Mason ran for 141 yards and scored on a 1-yard rush on the first possession of overtime and Georgia Tech kno cked off the Hurricanes 28-21 on Saturday to snap a four-game slide."Unbelievable resolve from our guys," Georgia Tech coach Geoff Collins said. "The way they played and the way they attacked. The way they stayed in the moment. It was a complete o ffense, defense and special teams victory." Georgia Tech (2-5, 1/3 ACC) also scored on a fumble recovery after a sack in the end zone by Ja'Quon Griffin in the first quarter, on a 41-yard pass by punter Pressley Harvin III on a fake in the second quarter and later a 35-yard strike from James Graham to Ahmearan Brown. The Yellow Jackets finished off the win by getting a fourth-down stop inside their 5, by maybe a couple of inches, to end Miami's lone overtime possession. "By far the best play I've ever h ad in my life," Harvin said of his pinpoint pass to Nathan Cottrell for the fake-punt score. Miami (3-4, 1-3) matched its worst seven-game start in 22 years. - Georgia Tech/AP College Football

2019 PRESEASON RAY GUY AWARD WATCH LIST: Pressley Harvin III, Georgia Tech,...A second-team all-conference honoree as a sophomore in 2018, Harvin III would've led the Atlantic Coast Conference and ranked 16th nationally through the regular season with a 44.3-yard punting average, but with just 31 attempts, fell far short of the 3.6 punts per game needed to qualify for the NCAA’s official statistical rankings. For the season, 16 of his 35 total punts (including 14 of his last 21) were downed insi de the 20 yard line, 10 traveled 50 yards or more and three of his booming punts were muffed, all of which were recovered by Georgia Tech and led directly to scores (two touchdowns and a field goal). - Georgia Tech Football
