 Quinton Bohanna, Kentucky, Player News

Kentucky will be without senior nose guard Quinton Bohanna in Saturday's trip to Missouri. "Quinton will be out for a bit," Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said Monday. "Nothing major, thank goodness for him and for us. I'm not sure how long that will be, but he will be out this week." Bohanna, a likely NFL draft prospect and key anchor to UK's front seven, suffered a knee injury shortly before halftime of Kentucky's 34-7 win over Tennessee. SEC Network cameras showed him in considerable pain on the field after the play, and he had to be helped by trainers to limp to the sideline. Bohanna was then taken to the locker room on a cart. After the game, Bohanna tweeted, "I'm good ima be back."

Bohanna's injury came one week after he forced two interceptions by pressuring Mississippi State's quarterbacks. "We wouldn't say he's a finished product, but every day he works," UK defensive coordinator Brad White said of Bohanna on Wednesday. "He's been getting better throughout the season. It happened to sort of culminate on Saturday for everybody to see, but he's had some really, really solid rushes throughout the first two weeks." On the season, Bohanna has been credited with five tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass breakup, but his ability to take up multiple blockers at 6-foot-4, 357 pounds often brings benefits not evident in the box score. - Courier Journal

UK closed out the win without senior nose guard Quinton Bohanna, who was sidelined with a knee injury just before halftime. SEC Network cameras showed him in considerable pain on the field after the play, and he had to be helped by trainers to limp to the sideline. Bohanna was then taken to the locker room on a cart. After the game, Bohanna tweeted he was OK, and Davis said he thought his teammate was fine. His injury came one week after Bohanna forced two interceptions by pressuring Mississippi State's quarterbacks. "We wouldn't say he's a finished product, but every day he works," UK defensive coordinator Brad White said of Bohanna on Wednesday. "He's been getting better throughout the season. It happened to sort of culminate on Saturday for everybody to see, but he's had some really, really solid rushes throughout the first two weeks."

On the season, Bohanna has been credited with four tackles, one-half tackle for loss and one pass breakup, but his ability to take up multiple blockers at 6-foot-4, 357 pounds often brings benefits not evident in the box score. "So many people, they go right to the stat sheet," White said. "It's the effect he has on the quarterback, the effect those guys up front have on the vision points for the quarterback. If you can put a big body in a pass lane, you can put a big paw up...Really pleased with his progression and the fact that he's owned up to sort of his deficiencies (in the pass rush) and known in the past that we needed more in that area. "The other thing that's probably not being talked enough about is his conditioning and how many snaps he can play at full speed and still get out of the stack. He runs and he hustles. It's been impressive." - Courier Journal

2021 SENIOR BOWL WATCH LIST: Quinton Bohanna, Kentucky,...Bohanna is a proud native of Memphis, Tennessee and enters his senior season with 19 consecutive starts at nose guard. The 6-foot-4, 361-pounder totaled 18 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, a sack and a pass breakup for the Wildcats' defense in 2019. He was also recently named to the preseason All-SEC Fourth Team by Athlon. - Kentucky Football

Kentucky has some things to sort out beside Bohanna - how well it replaces T.J. Carter and Calvin Taylor Jr. could be the biggest difference-maker between a "good" and "great" season for the first line of ball-stoppers - but what it for sure has is a likely high-round NFL prospect locking down the middle. Bohanna probably would have been selected in this year's draft but will look to improve his stock during a second straight season as a full-time starter. The Wildcats in back-to-back seasons have finished as a top-20 squad in terms of total defense, but last year rated in the middle of the pack when it came to stopping the run (No. 63 among all 130 FBS squads). Bohanna - 367 pounds of pure intimidation - will have a big hand in any gains made in that department. - Herald Leader
