Ben DeLuca, the Bishop Moore safety who went on to big things at UNC-Charlotte, sat through the NFL draft this weekend hoping to hear his name. Prior to the event, however, DeLuca already had made up his mind. If he was drafted, great. If he was not drafted, it wasn't going to have a significant impact on him. DeLuca went undrafted after 259 players heard their phones ring this weekend, but the 6-foot-1, 215-pound DeLuca wasn't concerned. It will just push him harder, the same way many things have pushed him throughout his career. "It's just one of those things that's kinda out of your hands and so you just have to trust God and trust that you're going to go where you need to go," DeLuca said. "I'm excited that part is over and now I just get to go play football." Within an hour of the draft's completion DeLuca was already a member, via free agency, of the Los Angeles Chargers, and he was happy about his choice. - Charlotte Observer

2020 PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE USA TEAM (COACHES): DB Ben DeLuca, Sr., Charlotte,...DeLuca is a three-year starter who missed the bulk of the 2019 season with injury. During his standout career, he has amassed 265 tackles, 41 shy of the 49ers all-time school record of 306, set last season by linebacker Jeff Gemmell. The reliable defensive back is a two-time Honorable Mention all-Conference USA choice and was named to the league's all-Freshman Team in 2016. - Charlotte Football

The Charlotte 49ers, UNC Charlotte's Division I intercollegiate athletics program, unveiled a new brand identity in the first update to the Charlotte 49ers athletic mark since 2000. "The new identity captures the energy that will drive our programs to championship-level success," said 49ers Director of Athletics Mike Hill. "It's an exciting time for Charlotte athletics. We enjoyed our first football bowl game last season, set a record for home wins in men's basketball, won league titles in men's and women's track and field, advanced to the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament second round, and saw multiple teams continue their dramatic competitive ascent."

The centerpiece of the new look is a distinctive mark called the "All-In C." An evolution from the current Charlotte athletics logo, it places the classic 49ers' gold-mining pick inside a collegiate-inspired "C" with beveled corners, an aggressive stance and a 9-degree forward tilt that illustrates the brand's positive energy and forward momentum. "It looks incredible," said Head Football Coach Will Healy. "It will look great on the side of a helmet. It will look great in the middle of a basketball court and on jerseys. When you have a cool logo to go along with Nike on the other side, it's going to help us in recruiting. It's going to help our player experience here, where they feel really good about where they are playing." - Charlotte Observer
