2019 ALL-SOUTH ATLANTIC CONFERENCE FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM: RB Antonio Wimbush, Carson-Newman,...Wimbush has pushed his name up the Carson-Newman football record books in earning All-SAC first team honors for a third year. Wimbush leads Carson-Newman in rush ing with 889 yards on 120 carries. He's found the end zone 10 times, including eight times in the last four weeks of the season. The senior's top outing came in the regular season finale against Tusculum when he had 148 yards on 14 carries and a score.Wimbush has a trio of 100-yard performances this season, cresting triple digits against the Pioneers, UNC Pembroke and Mars Hill. Wimbush has moved his way up the record books as a result. Wimbush became the fourth member of Carson-Newman's 3,500-ya rd rushing club against Mars Hill. He is third all-time in rushing yards with 3,769. Wimbush is 273 yards away from second and Kennth Tyson, and 387 yards away from first and Robert Thomas. - Carson-Newman Football

2019 PRESEASON ALL-SAC FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM: RB Antonio Wimbush, Carson-Newman,...In his redshirt junior season, Wimbush received national recognition for his efforts to return to the field from a torn ACL and meniscus. Wimbush has was named one of three inaugural winners of the Mayo Clinic's Comeback Player of the Year. The junior was bullish in the offseason with his rehab and work ethic.Within six months of his surgery, he was squatting 525 pounds. Carson-Newman Director of Sports Performance J ohnny Long has called Wimbush, pound-for-pound, the strongest player on the football team. After a hard offseason rehab, Wimbush turned in another stellar season to earn All-SAC first team honors for the second time in his career to go along with all-reg ion accolades from the D2CCA and All-America honors from Don Hansen's Football Gazette. - Carson-Newman Football

The South Atlantic Conference announced the 2019 Preseason All-Conference Football Teams on Thursday. Chosen by the SAC Football Media Relations Directors, Carson-Newman had eight players named to the first team, while preseason favorite Lenoir-Rhyne had six selections. Wingate and Tusculum had five selections each, followed by Catawba and Mars Hill with two picks each. Newberry rounded out the first team with one selection. Carson-Newman's Derrick Evans was named first team quarterback.A two-way threat, he threw for 637 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for 439 yards and six touchdowns. Earning spots on the first team at running back were Carson-Newman's Antonio Wimbush, Tusculum's Jordon Shippy and Wingate's Nijere Peoples. Wimbush, an All-American and the 2018 Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year, rushed for a league-leading 1,206 yards, averaging 109.6 yards per game with seven touchdowns. - SAC Football
