J.K. Dobbins will attempt to emulate the rushing success Ray Rice enjoyed with the Baltimore Ravens. The former Ohio State running back already shares a few similarities with the three-time Pro Bowler. Both were selected with the No. 55 overall pick in their respective NFL Drafts. On Wednesday, the Ravens officially announced Dobbins will wear No. 27. That's the same number Rice wore while rushing for over 1,100 yards four times and helping the franchise win Super Bowl XLVII. Dobbins wore No. 2 as a 2,000-yard rusher with Ohio State football in 2019. NFL uniform number rules dictate that running backs must wear a number between 20-49. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

J.K. Dobbins spent three seasons trying to run all over the Michigan team coached by Jim Harbaugh. Now a coach of the same name has summoned him to bring those running back talents to the NFL. The Baltimore Ravens and coach John Harbaugh - Jim's brother - selected Dobbins 55th overall in Friday's second round of the NFL Draft. "I don't know if it will be strange," Dobbins said in a video the Ravens posted to Twitter. "I might give him some flack about it because I beat his brother every time I played them. "It will be great, being in that culture. I know he's a great coach, so I'm glad they picked me." Perhaps Jim Harbaugh, who previously coached the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl, put in a good word with his brother. Dobbins rushed for 214 yards and four touchdowns against Michigan last November. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

The question was inevitable, considering Ohio State football's J.K. Dobbins and Malik Harrison won seven pairs of gold pants against Michigan in their careers. How does Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh, brother of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, feel about bringing so many Buckeyes into his organization. "We're an equal opportunity employer," John Harbaugh said during an interview on ESPN's 2020 NFL Draft broadcast. "We don't hold any grudges on that. We'll be happy to have those guys. They're great players. Ohio State's a great program."Baltimore did not necessarily seem like a fit for Dobbins, considering it returns its top three running backs - and prolific quarterback Lamar Jackson, the NFL's reigning MVP - from a team that set the NFL rushing record last season. John Harbaugh said Dobbins was "probably our top-rated running back," due to his explosive downhill style, cutting ability and toughness. "I don't love the school he comes from but I like everything about him," John Harbaugh said. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

  04/26/20 - RB *J.K. DobbinsJr/2020, Ohio State, 5-09, 209 (DS#1 RB) + More +

Ohio State football's J.K. Dobbins ran with a sense of purpose throughout a record-setting 2019 season. The Dobbins who ran for over 2,000 yards - the one who broke off two runs of 60-plus yards against Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl - bore little resemblance to the one who scuffled through his sophomore season in 2018. After a slide to the second half of the second round, Dobbins probably has a renewed sense of purpose. The Baltimore Ravens selected him with the 55th pick in Friday's second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, meaning the NFL's most prolific rushing attack just picked up a motivated running back. Dobbins was the fifth running back selected, which will likely add a little fuel to the Texas native's fire, however. So will his position relative to Wisconsin's Jonathan Taylor, the back with whom he shared a handful of battles in college. The Indianapolis Colts traded up with the Browns to take Taylor at No. 41.

Dobbins joins an offense led by reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson. The Ravens went 14-2 in 2019 while rushing for 3,296 yards and finishing with almost 1,000 more yards and 100 more attempts than runner-up San Francisco. Jackson set an NFL record for rushing yards by a quarterback, and the reigning MVP adds Dobbins as a complementary talent in the backfield. Dobbins will also play for John Harbaugh, the brother of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. "It's amazing," Dobbins said in a video the Ravens posted on Twitter. "I'm going to get to play with the MVP of the NFL. I"m going to do my best to help him and help the team win. It's definitely a blessing to be on this team." - Cleveland Plain Dealer

The player who turned in Ohio State football's most prolific rushing season ever is moving on to the NFL. Running back J.K. Dobbins declared via Twotter post on Monday that he will leave school after three seasons to enter the NFL Draft. Dobbins rushed for an OSU single-season record 2,003 yards, which currently ranks second only to Oklahoma State's Chuba Hubbard. He also rushed for 21 yards, tied for third nationally.

In the letter Dobbins posted, he thanked numerous coaches and support staff and Ohio State fans for the memories. "Thank you for everything," Dobbins wrote. "Coming to Ohio from Texas has been nothing short of a dream. I've built relationships that will last me a lifetime at this great university. I've created bonds with my brothers on the teams for the past three years that will never be broken. "Buckeye nation, thank you for all the incredible memories. I love you guys more than you will ever know." Dobbins concludes his Ohio State career ranking second with 4,459 yards sixth with 38 touchdowns. - Cleveland.com

Ohio State will go into championship weekend as the top team in the College Football Playoff selection committee's rankings, followed by LSU, Clemson and Georgia. Utah, Oklahoma and Baylor are on deck, and that could turn out to be the great debate by Saturday night. Utah was fifth, Oklahoma sixth and Baylor seventh in the committee's second-to-last top 25 released Tuesday. The final rankings to set the pairings for the national semifinals come out Sunday after each FBS conference plays a championship game. The most pivotal games will be LSU-Georgia in the Southeastern Conference championship game Saturday; Oklahoma-Baylor in the Big 12 championship Saturday; and Utah-Oregon - 13th this week - for the Pac-12 title Friday night. Wisconsin was eighth, followed by Florida and Penn State. Alabama was 12th, its lowest ranking in the six years the committee has been doing a weekly top 25 over the final third of the season. - AP College Football

J.K. Dobbins ran for four touchdowns and Justin Fields threw four TD passes, providing plenty of firepower for No. 2 Ohio State to rout No. 10 Michigan 56-27 Saturday for a school-record eighth straight win in the series. The Buckeyes (12-0, 9-0 Big Ten, No. 1 CFP) will head to the Big Ten championship game with a spot in the College Football Playoff in sight against either No. 9 Minnesota or No. 13 Wisconsin next Saturday. The Wolverines (9-3, 6-3, No. 13 CFP) will have to settle for a second-or third-tier bowl game after coach Jim Harbaugh fell to 0-5 in the rivalry, and the Wolverines lost to Ohio State for the 15th time in 16 years.

Michigan got off to a strong start, driving 75 yards on the opening drive and scoring on Giles Jackson's 22-yard run. The Wolverines, though, followed that up with the first of too many mistakes that doomed their chances of pulling off an upset as a heavy underdog. Quinn Nordin missed the extra point and less than a few minutes later, the Buckeyes took the lead for good. Dobbins, who ran 211 yards on 31 carries, scored to put Ohio State ahead 7-6 midway through the first quarter. Fields, who was 14 of 25 for 302 yards, connected on a 57-yard touchdown pass to Chris Olave late in the first quarter. - Ohio State/AP College Football

J.K. Dobbins rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns and No. 2 Ohio State locked up the Big Ten East title Saturday, surviving its first real test of the season with a 28-17 victory over No. 9 Penn State. The Buckeyes held on after Penn State (9-2, 7-2 Big Ten) took advantage of two second-half turnovers to climb back into the game in the third quarter after trailing 21-0. This was a far different scenario for Ohio State, which blew out its first 10 opponents. "From the beginning to the end, you couldn't take a deep breath at all," Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. The Buckeyes (10-0, 8-0 Big Ten) were clinging to a 21-17 lead early in the fourth quarter when Justin Fields threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Chris Olave to create some space.

The Ohio State defense, with Chase Young back from a two-game suspension, then shut down two late Penn State drives on fourth down. The last drive included back-to-back sacks of backup quarterback Will Levis by Young and linebacker Baron Browning. Fields fumbled away the ball twice, once as he was crossing the goal line for an apparent touchdown. But he got critical yards on the ground, rushing for 68 yards on 21 carries and threw beautiful second half touchdown passes to K.J. Hill and Olave. "The biggest difference was the quarterback's legs, the running game," Penn State coach James Franklin said. Dobbins was responsible for both first-half touchdowns, a 4-yard plunge in the first quarter and a 2-yard plunge on fourth-and-goal with 2 minutes left in the half. He finished the first half with 89 rushing yards. With three sacks, Young now has 16.5 for the season. - Ohio State/AP College Football

  10/30/19 - RB *J.K. DobbinsJr/2020, Ohio State, 5-09, 209 (DS#1 RB) + More +

Ohio State's J.K. Dobbins is backing up his preseason declaration that he's the best college running back in the nation. Dobbin's 163 yards against then-No. 13 Wisconsin and its top-ranked defense last week put him over 1,000 yards. He's the first Ohio State back to hit the 1,000-yard mark in each of his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. That's the territory of Archie Griffin, college football's only two-time Heisman Trophy winner. The Ohio State star ran for over 1,000 yards in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Dobbins leads a balanced offense that many believe is the most complete Ohio State team in years. The No. 3 Buckeyes swept away Wisconsin 38-7 on what is looking like an inevitable march to the College Football Playoff.

Dobbins' numbers could be gaudier. He sat in the latter parts of blowouts - and all eight Ohio State wins ended up blowouts. Second-stringer Master Teague has gotten so much late playing time that he's already piled up 588 yards on 86 carries. In practices before last week's game, Dobbins' teammates ribbed him about the Heisman hype that was following Wisconsin back Jonathan Taylor to Columbus. The Badgers star was widely considered the nation's best back. Dobbins responded with 163 yards and two touchdowns and caught three passes for 58 yards -- a total of 221 all-purpose yards -- earning him Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors. "I know that was fueling him a lot," Ohio State guard Wyatt Davis said. "I still didn't understand why J.K. didn't have as much hype as he did. We were all just saying this is your time to prove it." - AP College Football

Justin Fields threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score, J.K. Dobbins rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown and No. 4 Ohio State overcame a sluggish start to roll over No. 25 Michigan State 34-10 on Saturday night. The Buckeyes (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) had to work to figure out Michigan State's defense to start, after blowing out every opponent through the first five games. They gained just 16 yards on 16 plays in the first quarter, but got unstuck and put away the Spartans (4-2, 2-1) with big plays.

Dobbins ran the ball 24 times, averaged over 7 yards per carry and had an electrifying 67-yard breakaway for a touchdown late in the first half. Fields finished 17 for 25 for 206 yards and threw an interception for the first time in his first 175 pass attempts as a Buckeye. He also was sacked three times - twice by Michigan State linebacker Joe Bachie. Brian Lewerke was 20 for 38 for 218 yards and a touchdown for the Spartans. - Ohio State/AP College Football

J.K. Dobbins ran for 193 yards and scored twice Saturday while Justin Fields threw three touchdown passes to lead No. 6 Ohio State to a 51-10 rout at Indiana. The Buckeyes (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten) have won each of their first three games by at least 24 points and extended their winning streak in the series to 24, dating to a tie in 1990. Ohio State hasn't lost to Indiana since 1988. And with Peyton Ramsey starting at quarterback in place of the injured Michael Penix Jr., the Hoosiers (2-1, 0-1) never had a chance. It might not have mattered with Dobbins and Fields gashing Indiana's defense.

Fields opened the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run, and then hooked up with Chris Olave for a 37-yard TD pass early in the second quarter to make it 14-3. On the ensuing Indiana series, Olave blocked a punt out of the end zone for a safety, and Dobbins' slicing 56-yard run set up a 9-yard TD pass from Fields to K.J. Hill Jr. for a 23-3 lead. Dobbins reached the end zone by breaking a handful of tackles on a 26-yard run to make it 30-3. Indiana finally answered when Ramsey threw to Donovan Hale, who turned and found Peyton Hendershot wide open for a 49-yard TD pass. It was the first touchdown allowed in the first half this season by Ohio State. - AP College Football

Despite running for 1,053 yards and 10 touchdowns, J.K. Dobbins says last season was a frustrating personal failure. "I didn't make defenses fear me as I should," the Ohio State tailback said while vowing to bounce back in 2019. After he set a freshman school rushing record in 2017 with 1,403 yards, his numbers dropped off last season. Platooning with Mike Weber, Dobbins averaged 4.6 yards per carry, compared with 7.2 per carry the previous year as the passing game behind record-breaking quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr. took center stage. After logging six 100-yard rushing games as a freshman, he did it just three times last season and the Buckeyes' running game failed to find consistency.

"I don't know if he struggled as much as we could just do a better job of calling (plays) up and putting him in good places and getting the blocking a little better," offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said. "To me, running is a group effort, and our group was good, just not as good as it needs to be." The pieces are falling into place for a productive year for Dobbins, and his wide smile is the first indication. "I just feel like I'm the best running back in the nation, and I want to prove that," the 20-year-old junior said.
