  04/08/20 - RB Eno BenjaminJr/2020, Arizona State, 5-09, 207 (DS#13 RB) + More +

For Eno Benjamin, the final weeks of NFL draft preparation were supposed to serve as an opportunity to set himself apart from his peers. Instead, amid the coronavirus pandemic and the league's subsequent restrictions for teams and prospects alike, the Arizona State running back finds himself lumped into the same situation as other prospects in this class: working out from home and trying to make an impression via video conferencing rather than in-person meetings. Benjamin, however, is accustomed to adapting to circumstances beyond his control. A four-star recruit and U.S. Army All-American out of high school, he signed with the Sun Devils in 2017 as a key addition for coach Todd Graham, who was fired a year later. Ascending to the starting role the following season, the 5-9, 207-pound back rushed for a school-record 1,642 yards as well as 16 touchdowns.

And when the Sun Devils last year had to break in a freshman quarterback in Jayden Daniels along with an inexperienced offensive line, he still managed to run for 1,083 yards, using a pinball style to force missed tackles as defenses loaded the box to stop him. So when the NFL announced on March 13 it would ban pro days and prospect visits to facilities amid the COVID-19 outbreak, Benjamin knew he had to turn his focus to the next obstacle. "For the most part, I'd say the biggest thing is just not being able to see all the people I wanted to see - people I wanted to work out with - because of the circumstances we're now in," Benjamin told USA TODAY Sports by phone. "You can say it is affecting a lot, but my main thing is to keep moving and pressing forward." - Arizona Republic

Sun Devil Football junior running back Eno Benjamin announced his decision today to forgo his senior season and enter the 2020 NFL Draft. "I want to thank Coach Herm and every other coach that has contributed to my success on and off the field," Benjamin said. "Thank you, Arizona State University. I've enjoyed my three years here and I have made memories with my brothers that will last beyond this lifetime. With that being said, I have decided to forgo my senior year and enter the 2020 NFL Draft."

Benjamin will leave Arizona State with his name at or near the top of the program's record book in several significant rushing statistics. His 2018 season was one of the best ever by a Sun Devil running back, as he shattered Woody Green's 46-year-old school record for rushing yards in a season. He completed his sophomore season with 1,642 yards on the ground while also setting the school record for most games going over 100 yards rushing with nine. Benjamin was recognized by the AP for his breakout season, receiving Third Team All-American honors from the publication after the 2018 season. - Arizona State Football

Eno Benjamin ran for 168 yards and two touchdowns, helping Arizona State grind out a 24-14 victory over rival Arizona on Saturday night. The Sun Devils (7-5, 4-5 Pac-12) started a chilly night in the desert slow before turning to their pounding ground game in the second half. The Sun Devils ran the ball 20 of 21 plays on a pair of third-quarter scoring drives capped by Benjamin TD runs, turning a one-point halftime deficit to a 21-7 lead. The Wildcats (4-8, 2-7) were hurt by miscues and missed opportunities to end a second straight season with a loss to their biggest rival.

Arizona's Khalil Tate returned as the starter for the first time three games and threw three interceptions — two on miscommunications with receivers and another on a drop. Tate threw for 228 yards and threw two TDs to Jemarye Joiner, who had seven catches for 140 yards. Arizona State won last year's Territorial Cup game in an epic comeback, rallying from a 19-point deficit to beat Arizona 41-40. The win clinched the Sun Devils' bowl eligibility in their first season under coach Herm Edwards and denied the Wildcats a postseason bid in their first under Kevin Sumlin. This year's game, the 93rd in the series, had no postseason implications but plenty of vitriol, starting with Arizona's players using their cleats to scuff up the Sun Devils logo at midfield. The game was a defensive struggle at the start. - Arizona State/AP College Football

Eno Benjamin scored his third touchdown of the game on a 3-yard run with 4:41 remaining, leading Arizona State to a 24-17 victory over No. 15 California on Friday night. The Golden Bears (4-1, 1-1) lost their perfect record and quarterback Chase Garbers to a right shoulder injury, spoiling their highest ranking in a decade. The loss also left the Pac-12 with no undefeated teams before the end of September. The Sun Devils (4-1, 1-1) bounced back from a 34-31 loss to Colorado in the conference opener last week thanks to a strong performance by Benjamin. He had 29 carries for 100 yards, also scoring on an 11-yard run in the first quarter and a 4-yarder in the third quarter. Jayden Daniels added 174 yards passing and 84 more on the ground as Arizona State earned its second road win this season against a ranked team, also beating Michigan State 10-7 two weeks ago. - Arizona State/AP College Football

Arizona State's Eno Benjamin slipped into an open area across the middle, sprinted past a defender and into the end zone for a long fourth-quarter touchdown. Until that big play, the Sun Devils seemed bogged down in the desert sand, unable to get out of their own way. Struggling against an FCS opponent wasn't exactly what they had in mind for a Top 25 tuneup. Benjamin caught a 72-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, Cristian Zendejas kicked four field goals and Arizona State labored to a 19-7 win over Sacramento State on Friday night. "We can't play offense on our heels," Arizona State coach Herm Edwards said. "That's what it looked like a lot of tonight."

Arizona State (2-0) overcame inexperience - 25 freshmen saw action - with a convincing 30-7 opening win against Kent State. The Sun Devils saw Friday night's game as a chance to clean up a few things with a road game against No. 19 Michigan State next. Instead, they had a few growing pains against the Hornets (1-1) after beating them 55-0 in the teams' only other meeting. Arizona State's offense sputtered, plagued by off-target passes, drops and an ineffective running game against a team ranked 115th in total defense last season - in the FCS. "As an offense, I really didn't feel like we played to the standard we set as an offense," said Arizona State's Jayden Daniels, who threw for 304 yards and a touchdown on 17-of-27 passing. - AP College Football

Junior running back Eno Benjamin continued to be worked into the passing game, something Edwards plans to emphasize this season. He says he would like Benjamin to finish with 50 catches this season. He had 35 last season. "If he wants to play at the next level, the good ones can come out of the backfield and catch the ball. That will give us good matchups, too," Edwards said. - Arizona Republic
