A series of text messages from former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm circulated on Twitter on Thursday afternoon. In a conversation with a longtime friend, who sent the messages under the @ashleymp20 social media handle, Fromm used the term "elite white people." Fromm apologized for his comments, which were communicated in March 2019. "I am extremely sorry," Fromm wrote in a Twitter post. "...There's no excuse for that word choice and sentiment." In those original comments, made on the subject of guns, he said to "just make them very expensive so only elite white people can get them haha."

The Houston County High School star was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of April's NFL Draft. Fromm left Georgia after his junior season. He finished fourth in school history in passing yards (8,224), second in touchdowns (78), fourth in completions (621) and fifth in attempts (982). His career completion percentage of 63.2 ranks third in school history. - Macon Telegraph

The film room often becomes a sanctuary for Jake Fromm. A projection screen turns into a canvas and the handheld remote plays the function of a paintbrush. The crafting of his final product begins. Fromm's mind launches into a hyper-focused mode where improvement churns in his mind. He emulates his game after future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees, after all, and strives to perform to his standard while drowning out any semblance of noise. Fromm glosses over film broadly, but instead splices it down to the most specific of details. They're attributes that might seem microscopic and frivolous to an average quarterback, but ones where Fromm requires precision: The timing of a play-action pass, finding strength in the pocket with his eyes in order to improve quickness and the rate of speed in which he turns his head after a handoff to see the defense.

"It comes natural to him," said Georgia head coach Kirby Smart, who gave Fromm the proverbial pilot's license to the Bulldogs' offense after the first game of the 2017 season. "He has a passion for the scheme card and a special awareness of the field." Fromm then makes a 120-yard patch of grass his stage. The results of numerous hours in the film room translated onto the football field, where the 6-foot-2 outdoor fanatic stepped away from the deer stand to delve into his beloved sport and lead the University of Georgia for three seasons. Fromm compiled more than 20 touchdowns in each season, and hit the 30 mark as a sophomore. Beginning Thursday, Fromm anticipates his name being (virtually) called in the NFL Draft after forgoing his senior season in pursuit of his lifelong dream of playing on Sundays. Many wild guesses have been taken on Fromm's destination, and a slew of mock drafts have the Middle Georgia native pegged anywhere from the first to third rounds. - Macon Telegraph

The final weeks leading up to the NFL draft offered Jake Fromm a chance to impress teams closing out their evaluation of him. Sitting in his father's office at the family's home in Warner Robins, Fromm connected with teams by video conferencing on Zoom, FaceTime or Skype or just on the phone. The former Georgia quarterback said he held interviews with up to 12 teams. "Some more than once," he said. "It's fun. Anytime we can sit here and talk football, it's fun." Fromm went 35-7 as a starter in his three Bulldog seasons, including in his freshman year when Georgia came close to winning the national championship.

Huddling with teams - virtually in the last month due to the novel coronavirus pandemic that left players and NFL personnel home-bound - was an opportunity for Fromm to show his grasp of the intricacies of the game. "It's very different with kind of every team," he said. "Some interviews will be a lot more formal than others. They'll be installing plays, we'll watch some of my film, we'll watch some of their film. Then have to recall what they installed. Other interviews are a little less formal, just hanging out talking, talking about my family, talk about life. Really kind of getting to know each other and developing a relationship." The 6-foot-2, 219-pound Fromm is pegged mostly as a second- or third-round pick in the draft that starts with the first round Thursday night and runs through Saturday. - Athens Daily Banner

2020 NFL COMBINE INVITE: Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia,...Fromm led the Bulldogs to a 12-2 mark in 2019 and capped the season with a win over No. 7 Baylor in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1. He was 20-for-30 for 250 yards with two touchdowns during Georgia's latest victory. He finished his career 35-7 as a starter, including 13-6 versus Top 25 competition, and had a streak of 42 straight starts. Fromm finished No. 2 in school history in touchdown passes (78) and No. 4 in most passing yards (8,224) and pass completions (621). - Georgia Football

Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm is heading to the NFL, despite some struggles during a junior season that led to speculation he might return for one more year with the Bulldogs. Fromm announced his decision Wednesday in a statement on his Twitter page, one week after leading the Bulldogs to a 26-14 victory over Baylor in the Sugar Bowl. "I have decided that it is time for me to take on the next challenge in my life and pursue my lifelong dream of playing in the NFL," he wrote. Fromm threw for a career-high 2,860 yards this season, with 24 touchdowns and just five interceptions. But he posted the lowest completion percentage (60.8) and quarterback rating (141.2) of his college career, leading to him dropping in many NFL draft projections. Still, Fromm will be remembered as one of the best quarterbacks in Georgia history. He was 35-7 record as the Bulldogs' starter, including three straight appearances in the Southeastern Conference championship game. - AP College Football

Georgia's three-year starting quarterback Jake Fromm announced his intentions to declare for the NFL draft Wednesday via his Twitter account. "I have been blessed beyond measure for every day that God allowed me to be your quarterback, and I pray that his light can continue to shine through the light of University of Georgia," Fromm said in the tweet. Fromm wore the Bulldogs' uniform for the final time as Georgia claimed a 26-14 Sugar Bowl win over Baylor, and Fromm underwent an extensive decision process. An opportunity to declare for the NFL draft remained prominent as various mock drafts had Fromm chosen around the first-to-third rounds.

At the beginning of the season, some pegged Fromm as the potential No. 1 overall draftee. But in many cases, Fromm had many reasons to return by season's end. He didn't have as talented of a wide receiver corps, so his stat line wasn't as flashy. He finished with 2,860 yards and 24 touchdowns as opposed to 30 touchdowns as a sophomore. For Fromm, a chance to play professionally became too enticing. He's one in a series of quarterbacks to declare early - including Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa and former Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason. - Macon Telegraph

Jake Fromm threw four touchdown passes and No. 4 Georgia cruised into the Southeastern Conference championship game with a 52-7 victory over Georgia Tech on Saturday — the Bulldogs' biggest win ever over their state rival. The Bulldogs (11-1) were 28-point favorites over the Yellow Jackets (3-9) and this one was never in doubt, even as Georgia struggled a bit offensively, fumbled the ball away three times, dealt with injury woes, and failed to cover an onside kick. It was Georgia's third straight win in the one-sided series known as “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate” - all of them blowouts. The Bulldogs have outscored Georgia Tech 135-35 during that span. When Tyson Campbell recovered a fumbled punt for Georgia's final touchdown in the closing minutes, it surpassed the Bulldogs' previous biggest margin over the Yellow Jackets, a 51-7 rout in 2002.

This was a mere speed bump on the way to next week's SEC title game, where the Bulldogs will face No. 1 LSU with a berth in the College Football Playoff on the line. Fromm failed to complete half his passes for the fourth week in a row, but it didn't matter. He finished 14 of 29 for 254 yards, connecting on scoring throws of 20 yards to Charlie Woerner, 17 yards to Tyler Simmons, 41 yards to George Pickens and 9 yards to Dominick Blaylock. The TD to Blaylock with 4 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter was Fromm's final throw of the game. Stetson Bennett went the rest of the way at quarterback. Things got chippy as the game turned into a blowout. - AP College Football

Jake Fromm is in a slump. The throws that were so accurate through most of his Georgia career are suddenly missing the mark. Overthrown. Underthrown. Wide left and wide right. The junior quarterback needs to snap out of it if the No. 4 Bulldogs are going to make another run at the College Football Playoff. "We've got to do a better job helping him out," coach Kirby Smart said Monday, "and he's got to do a better job hitting the ones when they're open." If there's one thing Georgia has been able to count on the last three seasons, it's their rock-solid quarterback.

Fromm got a shot in his very first college game when Jacob Eason was injured, made his first start the next week in a memorable victory at Notre Dame, and has gone on to post a 33-6 record as the Bulldogs' No. 1 signal-caller, including a trip to the national championship game as a freshman. Over his first 37 college games, Fromm failed to complete half his throws just three times. Two of those performances came in blowout losses to Auburn in 2017 and LSU last season. Now, he's gone three straight games below 50%, though the Bulldogs managed to win them all. Still, it's been rather jarring for a Georgia team that is 10-1 heading into the regular-season finale against woeful Georgia Tech (3-8) but has struggled to its niche offensively. - AP College Football

Jake Fromm passed for three touchdowns and No. 5 Georgia's defense produced two late stops, clinching the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division title with a 21-14 victory over No. 13 Auburn on Saturday. The Bulldogs (9-1, 6-1 SEC, No. 4 CFP) sailed through three quarters with a 21-0 lead before Auburn (7-3, 4-3) rallied in the fourth. Georgia held on to become the first team to win three consecutive SEC East titles since Florida won five in a row from 1992-96. Fromm and De'Andre Swift delivered enough offense to keep the Bulldogs on track for a shot at the College Football Playoffs. Most of the way, though, it was clear the game featured two of the league's top defenses.

Auburn scored two touchdowns in the fourth, then had a pair of drives stopped on fourth down in the final minutes. Freshman Bo Nix threw three incompletions and was sacked on the Tigers' final drive starting from their 27. Fromm was 13-of-28 passing for just 110 yards, but had a 51-yard touchdown pass to Dominick Blaylock and a pair of 5-yarders to Eli Wolf and Brian Herrien. Swift ran for 106 yards on 17 carries. Nix completed 30 of 50 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown. He also ran 13 times for 42 yards. Seth Williams caught 13 passes for 121 yards. The Tigers finally scored on Nix's 3-yard touchdown pass to Eli Stove with 10:04 left, taking advantage of a pass interference call on the previous third-down play. Auburn appeared to recover an onside kick but it was overturned upon review because of an illegal block by Anthony Schwartz. - Georgia/AP College Football

Georgia's defense didn't settle for just beating Missouri. The Bulldogs added to their growing collection of shutouts with a late goal-line stand. Jake Fromm threw two touchdown passes to George Pickens and No. 6 Georgia posted its third shutout, dominating a Missouri offense missing two of its biggest playmakers in a 27-0 victory Saturday night. Georgia (8-1, 5-1 Southeastern Conference, No. 6 College Football Playoff) moved closer to its third straight berth in the SEC championship game. The Bulldogs can clinch the SEC East by beating No. 12 Auburn next week. "It will be a big game, and our players have an opportunity to be at their best when their best is needed," said Georgia coach Kirby Smart. Missouri (5-4, 2-3) fell to 0-4 in road games with its third straight loss. Quarterback Kelly Bryant and leading receiver Johnathon Johnson did not play. Bryant's status had been in doubt due to a hamstring injury suffered in a loss at Kentucky two weeks ago. He participated in pregame warmups and then watched as backup Taylor Powell and Connor Bazelak led the offense. - Georgia/AP College Football

Jake Fromm was a little late to the after-party. He was in the third and final wave of Georgia players leaping into the stands at the "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party." It was a fitting spot for Fromm considering how effective he's been on third down against Florida. Fromm threw for 279 yards and two touchdowns, including a 52-yarder to an uncovered Lawrence Cager in the fourth quarter, and the No. 8 Bulldogs beat the sixth-ranked Gators 24-17 on Saturday. It was Georgia's third consecutive victory in the Southeastern Conference rivalry and sixth in the last nine years. Fromm was the main reason for the last two. He has five touchdown passes in two years against Florida, with four of them coming on third down. "When Jake has time, he's really efficient," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. "I was so proud of him this game."

Fromm's most important throw came on a third-and-7 play with a little more than 2 minutes remaining. The Gators (7-2, 4-2) rallied twice to make it a one-score game in the final quarter, and Fromm needed one more completion to end any chance of a comeback. He found tight end Eli Wolf for a 22-yard gain. Game over. "We had the belief the whole game that we just needed the one stop, and we didn't get that unfortunately," Florida linebacker David Reese said. Fromm completed 20 of 30 passes, including one to Dominick Blaylock for a 3-yard score on third down in the first quarter. Fromm struggled in his last two games, both at home, but played considerably better against Florida for the second straight season. - Georgia/AP College Football

Jake Fromm wants to show his former mentor how well he learned his lessons. Fromm, No. 3 Georgia's quarterback, says Jim Chaney, the Bulldogs' former offensive coordinator, "really kind of introduced me to this pro-style offense." Chaney left Georgia after the 2018 season to take control of Tennessee's offense. The Bulldogs visit the Vols on Saturday night. Fromm said he remains grateful for Chaney's key role in his development. "He did a great job of really kind of taking me in and teaching me the game of football and really seeing it from a different perspective," Fromm said Monday. "...I kind of got introduced to big-boy football in a pro-style offense and different terminologies and different passing concepts. I learned a lot of football under him and I really thank him for that."

Georgia (4-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) will be looking to protect its unbeaten record when it visits Tennessee (1-3, 0-1). The Vols are rebuilding under Jeremy Pruitt, Georgia's former defensive coordinator. Fromm is flourishing in his third season as Georgia's starter. He has completed almost 76 percent of his passes (62 of 82) for 788 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions. The Bulldogs are still a run-first offense. Other quarterbacks have more flashy passing totals. Fromm has avoided mistakes while ranking eighth in the nation in completion percentage. - AP College Football

Jake Fromm threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns before taking the rest of the day off, Georgia's defense turned in a dominating performance and the No. 3 Bulldogs romped to a 55-0 victory over Arkansas State on Saturday. With thousands of Georgia fans wearing pink instead of red to honor Arkansas State coach Blake Anderson's wife, Wendy, who died last month from breast cancer, the Bulldogs (3-0) took control as soon as they got their hands on the ball. They scored on six of seven possessions in the first half, building a 34-0 lead.

The Georgia defense was equally stout, posting its first shutout since the 2018 opener. The Red Wolves (1-2) went three-and-out four times in the first half and crossed midfield only once, settling for a 50-yard field goal try that faded wide right. The Bulldogs went to the locker room with a 382-81 edge in total yards, and many of the fans didn't bother coming back to watch the final two quarters. - AP College Football

Fromm is prepared for every situation football has thrown his way. He's studied film. He's read defenses. He's led the team in the weight room and on the field. And when teammates look at him, it's often that shrug and smile and go-get-em attitude that's kept him atop the QB depth chart as two of the most highly regarded quarterback recruits in Georgia history have gone through a revolving door in Athens and on their way to other parts of the country. "Jake's knowledge of the game just separates him from another player," said offensive tackle Andrew Thomas, himself a probable early entry into next year's NFL draft. "His attitude and approach every day, you never see Jake upset or sad, just every day it's the same Jake and he's excited to work and get better."

Georgia coach Kirby Smart tried to temper down the notion that his star quarterback, or anybody else on Georgia's team, could leave early for the NFL draft, noting that not all mock drafts are accurate because they're not coming from the general managers of NFL teams who evaluate talent. But he's seen enough of Fromm in two seasons to believe that he's got every piece of the puzzle an NFL team is looking for. "Absolutely he can play on Sundays," Smart said. "He's a cerebral quarterback, he's what they look for in a quarterback to be able to change the protection, make decisions and distribute the ball. Yeah he can play in the NFL." - Athens Daily Banner
