Alex Hornibrook did more than just fill in as Florida State's starter. He had a career night and gave the Seminoles a much-needed victory. Hornibrook, a graduate transfer from Wisconsin, made his first start at Florida State and threw for a career-high 3 16 yards, tossing three touchdown passes in the Seminoles' 31-13 win over North Carolina State on Saturday night. "I was just proud of the way the team finished today," Hornibrook said. "And we were able to separate a little bit and not be a one-possessi on game at the end." Hornibrook was often pressured and was sacked eight times. But he completed 29 of 40 passes and had two touchdown passes to Tamorrion Terry and another to Ontaria Wilson for Florida State (3-2, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). He impr oves to 27-6 as a starter.James Blackman suffered a knee injury in last week's win over Louisville and "tweaked" it again on Friday in practice, coach Willie Taggart said. "We wanted to see how he'd go through warmups and everything, see how it fe lt," Taggart said. "Thought it would be best that we didn't put him in there." Hornibrook helped the Seminoles' offense put together plenty of scoring drives, helping them build a 17-6 halftime lead that they would not relinquish. Florida State had let f ourth-quarter leads slip away against Boise State and Virginia but have now finished off Louisville and NC State (3-2, 0-1) on consecutive weeks. The Seminoles won back-to-back ACC games for the first time since Nov. 2016. - Florida State/AP College Foot ball

Former University of Wisconsin quarterback Alex Hornibrook, who transferred to Florida State in the off-season, took what appears to be a subtle shot at some of his old teammates in speaking with the media Friday morning. The quote that's drawn some resp onse, relayed by Florida State announcer Ariya Massoudi: "I'm excited to be here. I've never been around a group of WRs that love football so much and never want to leave the field." Transfer QB Alex Hornibrook: "I'm excited to be here. I've never been a round a group of WRs that love football so much and never want to leave the field."It's been an arduous year-plus for Hornibrook, a polarizing quarterback for Badgers fans who elected to transfer despite 26 wins in his 32 starts with Wisconsin. La st season, he missed four games with injury and struggled with interceptions when he was healthy, tossing 13 of them. His 25 touchdowns in 2017 mark the second most in a Badgers season. - Journal Sentinel

Florida State's second-year coach Willie Taggart says he's impressed with how well quarterback Alex Hornibrook has meshed his new teammates after joining the Seminoles as a graduate transfer from Wisconsin. The Seminoles are looking to bounce back from a disappointing, if not embarrassing, 5-7 first season under Taggart and will rely heavily on Hornibrook to begin the process of returning the program to notoriety. Last year was Florida State's first non-bowl season since 1981.Last year's starting quarterback Deondre Francois transferred to Florida Atlantic, opening the door for Hornibrook to start. Taggart pinned last year's issues offensively on players' struggles adapting to a spread offense, which differed from the pro-style offense they'd ru n in the past. He says he's already seen "tremendous improvement" in the execution of the team's offense in practice. Taggart expects the Seminoles to "turn things around" this season behind Hornibrook, who has plenty of starting experience and was the M VP of the 2017 Orange Bowl. Hornibrook was 26-6 in three seasons at Wisconsin, throwing for 5,438 yards with 47 touchdowns and 33 interceptions. - AP College Football
