Tavien Feaster went undrafted following his senior season at South Carolina. After that, all the running back wanted was a chance. Feaster is getting that chance with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who signed the Spartanburg native in April. Feaster is leavin g for Jacksonville on Friday and will begin workouts with the team next week. He is thankful the Jaguars were willing to give him a shot. "To be honest with you, the draft is what it is. I asked for an opportunity, not the red carpet," Feaster said at a drive-by community event he hosted in Spartanburg over the weekend. "I'm blessed with the opportunity to get out there and play and show my skills. I'm ready."Feaster had several teams reach out to him after going undrafted before opting to sign w ith the Jaguars. He will be a part of a group of several backs battling to back up star Leonard Fournette. Feaster is one of three rookie running backs Jacksonville added this offseason, joining fellow undrafted free agents Nathan Cottrell of Georgia Tec h and James Robinson of Illinois State. "We had a lot of teams reach out, and during the process we just decided (Jacksonville) was the best place for me to go compete for a spot," Feaster said. "It's a good team to go down there and play for, great weat her in the state of Florida, and I'm going to compete." - The State

South Carolina is planning to play this game without Rico Dowdle, who rushed for 140 yards against Tennessee last season but injured his knee against Florida last week. Dowdle has run for 457 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 5.9 yards per carry this season. The emergence of Tavian Feaster should give South Carolina confidence that it can continue running the ball effectively even without Dowdle. Feaster rushed for a career-high 175 yards on 25 carries against Florida. Feaster has run for a team -high 492 yards this season and is averaging 6 yards per carry. - AP College Football

Tigers coach Dabo Swinney spoke Friday about Feaster, who announced earlier in the week he would transfer from the Tigers to in-state rival South Carolina. "I wish him all the best in all [games] but one of them, for sure," Swinney said as Clemson opened preseason practice."It's no different whether he's going to your rival or whether he's going to someone else on your schedule. That's kind of where where we are with college football now. You're going to see that more and more. "We certainly wish him well. He was a model student-athlete for us. He's a great player." - The State

Feaster rushed for 1,330 yards and 15 touchdowns in three seasons with the Tigers.Feaster was a highly sought recrui t out of high school in Spartanburg who also had offers from schools including Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame and the Gamecocks before signing with the Tigers. Feaster never became Clemson's featured back, playing behind William Gallman in 2016 and Travis Etienne the past two years. A major get for South Carolina. Feaster's LOC (Level of Competition) Film grades should actually increase with this move as the SEC is by far number one in matchup film. Once we trade for some season road grades & info back, that is an expected but teams view low mileage runningbacks differently, which will now change. We are starting him out where he was expected to play up to, even with the 8-14 junior RB's expected to declare early, most thinking they are 2-3rd rounders and fall to the 6-7th round du e to the numbers, supply/demand game.

Former Clemson running back Tavien Feaster said Wednesday he will be playing football this fall at either South Carolina or Virginia Tech. Feaster, one of the top undeclared graduate transfers in the country, must complete his undergraduate degree from C lemson first. The Spartanburg native said he is a couple of weeks away from finishing the academic work needed to graduate in August with a degree in Parks, Recreation and Tourism. "One-hundred percent. I'm going to graduate," he said. That is no problem ."Feaster said his football future is down to the Gamecocks or the Hokies. He has visited each this summer. He took an unofficial visit to Blacksburg, Va., where he got the chance to meet with head coach Justin Fuente. "I liked it. I liked the pla yers," Feaster said. "I got to hang out with the offensive linemen. And in the program they don't have a feature running back, and running back is the only spot they are willing to take a grad transfer." - Charleston Post Courier
