Prince Tega Wanogho hopes he serves as an example to youngsters in his native Nigeria after reaching the NFL. The Philadelphia Eagles selected the former Auburn offensive tackle in the NFL Draft on April 25. "I say it all the time: It's way bigger than m e," Wanogho told NBC Sports Philadelphia this week. "This is actually just not for me or my family, I would say my village. That's what it is. This is something I'm doing to help people back home, too, because I know there's so many kids back home in Nig eria who would like the same dream. Especially the fact of me being drafted, they see that right now they know they can do it. That's what I want to present to them someday -- just the chance."Wanogho came to the United States in 2014 to pursue ba sketball. But he switched to football at Edgewood Academy in Elmore and made another switch at Auburn from defensive end to offensive tackle. "Whenever you take pride in whatever you do, you're going to find a way," Wanogho said. "And for me, it's not ab out me starting football early or late, it's just the will to learn, to play, and that's my will right there. I want to play. I want to be able to show people what I can do. People don't understand that, so at the end of the day, it's not all about when you start or where you actually start, it's just the finish. That's what it is. And that's me. That's what I do. I'm the guy who's always going to finish. "I'm not going to lie. I'm still learning. A lot of players in the league, they're still learning. A trio of former Auburn players will be among the 58 prospects who will virtually participate in the upcoming NFL Draft, the league announced Thursday night. While cornerback Noah Igbinoghene revealed earlier this week that he received an invite to atten d the draft remotely, he will be joined in that group by defensive tackle Derrick Brown and offensive tackle Prince Tega Wanogho. The NFL, which will conduct the draft completely virtually April 23-25, has not yet announced how the selected players will virtually participate in the event, but it plans to announce the details ahead of the three-day event that signals the league's marquee offseason production. Wanogho, a three-year starter at left tackle for Auburn, is also projected to hear his name call ed on the second day of the draft, with most analysts slotting him into the second or third round of the draft. - Birmingham News

Wednesday was supposed to be the day Prince Tega Wanogho was waiting for. After a minor right knee injury unexpectedly forced him out of January's Senior Bowl, and a scope on that same knee prevented him from working out at February's NFL Combine and las t month's pro day at Auburn, the former Tigers offensive tackle was eager to put on a show for NFL personnel during a private pro day on the Plains. Then the coronavirus outbreak occurred. NFL teams took personnel off the road, and the league prohibited pre-draft visits between franchises and prospects. On college campuses, including at Auburn, facilities were closed as the NCAA implemented restrictions and the SEC instituted a ban of on-campus athletic activities, which was recently extended through at least the end of May. For Wanogho - a potential Day 2 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft - that meant a cancelation of his much-anticipated private pro day."It's really a bummer," Wanogho told AL.com by phone this week. "It's real disappointing with all the stuff going on right now, but at the same time, at the end of the day I'm a guy who actually stays positive. At the end of the day, there's going to be a lot of people who are actually being affected by this virus going on right now, and it's way bigger than me. "I'm just praying about it, and I know my time's going to come to get to showcase what I can do. I'm just trying to control what I can control." - Birmingham News

Auburn held its annual pro day on Friday at the program's indoor practice facility, with 18 former Tigers working out in front of personnel from across the NFL -- including at least two head coaches in Detroit's Matt Patricia and New York Giants coach Jo e Judge. Along with the nine players who participated at last week's NFL Combine in Indianapolis, the following former Auburn players participated in Friday's pro day: offensive linemen Mike Horton and Marquel Harrell, safety Jeremiah Dinson, receiver/ti ght end Sal Cannella, tight end Jay Jay Wilson, receiver Will Hastings, defensive lineman Gary Walker, running back Kam Martin and H-back Spencer Nigh.While each of those nine players had their first opportunity to show out in front of NFL scouts, many of the Tigers who participated in the Combine rested on their numbers from last week's scouting event and only participated in position drills and select workouts. Former offensive lineman Prince Tega Wanogho did not go through any workouts or dril ls as he continues to recover from a knee scope and will hold his own private pro day sometime in April ahead of the NFL Draft. - Birmingham News

Prince Tega Wanogho came to Alabama wanting to be the next LeBron James. He became Auburn's left tackle instead. Wanogho now is the anchor of the 16th-ranked Tigers' all-senior offensive line, some five years after he stepped on a football field for the first time. A native of Delta State, Nigeria, Wanogho came to Alabama as a 16-year-old hoping to land a college scholarship - in basketball. He wound up at Edgewood Academy in suburban Montgomery after getting noticed at a basketball camp. Wanogho then o bliged when an Edgewood coach suggested giving football a shot, but he didn't know much about the sport that is king in the state.He played defensive end at about 225 pounds and quickly started getting interest from football programs, enough so th at a reporter asked him if Alabama coach Nick Saban had visited. "I was like, 'Who's Nick Saban?' It's crazy, because everybody thought it was funny," said Wanogho, who also played soccer growing up. "My teammates and coaches. The dude that was doing the interview, he thought it was funny, too. He was shocked because I didn't know who coach Nick Saban was. When I said that, everybody was surprised. "I was like you can't blame me because I came all the way from Nigeria and I'm here playing a new game. I don't really know what goes on here. I didn't even really know how big it was at that time.
