Matt Ryan |
QB |
Boston College |
|
Draft Scout Says: There isn't a team in the league that needed a fresh face to the franchise more than the Atlanta Falcons, and in adding Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan, the Falcons certainly did so. Ryan's passion, poise, and toughness will soon make him a fan favo rite and productive NFL quarterback.

Joe Flacco |
QB |
Delaware |
(From Texans) |
Draft Scout Says: One of the few real surprises of the first round came with the Ravens trading up to grab Flacco with the 18th pick. There is no denying Flacco's size, arm strength, and upside. However, for a team likely currently operating with only passers Kyle Boller and Troy Smith on the roster, the pick was a surprising one. Flacco has upside, but he is viewed by most teams as significantly rawer than Michigan's Chad Henne and Louisville's Brian Brohm.

Brian Brohm |
QB |
Louisville |
(Packers acquired pick from Browns for DT Corey Williams, March 1, 2008.) |
Draft Scout Says: The Packers addressed their need for a backup quarterback with the selection of Brohm in the late second round. Like the player he'll be backing up -- Aaron Rodgers -- Brohm dropped significantly lower than projected. In Green Bay's version of the West C oast Offense, however, Brohm's ability to read defenses and accurately distribute the football makes him a nice fit.

Chad Henne |
QB |
Michigan |
(Dolphins acquired pick from Chargers for WR Chris Chambers, October 16, 2007.) |
Draft Scout Says: It came a round later than projected, but the Dolphins finally added some competition for John Beck with Chad Henne in the late second round. Some have knocked his composure in the pocket, but Henne is the draft's most talented pure passer. Henne also is the gutty leader Parcells has preferred throughout his career.

Kevin O'Connell |
QB |
San Diego State |
|
Draft Scout Says: In the weeks leading to the draft, the quarterback all the scouts were talking about wasn't Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco, but O'Connell. Sure, he needs legitimate development, but possessing a strong arm and flashing the ability to raise his game at the Hula Bowl and East-West Shrine Game, O'Connell has the ability to warrant the pick. Sitting and learning behind Tom Brady is the perfect environment for O'Connell's development.

John David Booty |
QB |
Southern Cal |
(From Rams through Packers) |
Draft Scout Says: As gifted as Tarvaris Jackson has proven himself to be, he remains very much a work in progress in Brad Childress' version of the West Coast Offense. Booty has the accuracy, understanding of defenses, and poise in the pocket to ultimately develop into a starter in this offense.
