  WEEK 8 MISSOURI VALLEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: S Jalen Lee, South Dakota State, 6-0, 200, Jr., Wentzville, Mo.,...Lee ended two Murray State scoring chances with interceptions inside the 20-yard line in South Dakota State's 35-14 road win on Oct. 18. His first interception came at the SDSU 18 on the opening drive of the game while later adding an interception at the Jackrabbit 15 in the fourth quarter.   Jack Smith caught two touchdown passes, Jalen B. Lee had two interceptions, and the South Dakota State defense forced four turnovers in a 35-14 win over Murray State on Saturday. Smith had 10-yard and 46-yard touchdown catches on either side of halftime, tallying 91 yards on five catches. Alex Bullock led the FCS No. 2 Jackrabbits (7-0, 4-0 Missouri Valley Football Conference) with 99 yards on eight catches. Lee secured his first interception on the opening possession. Joe Ollman and Jayden Oliver also had interceptions.

Chase Mason was 5-of-6 passing for 56 yards and scored a rushing touchdown for the Jackrabbits, while starter Luke Marble was 13 of 21 for 189 yards, two touchdowns to Smith, and an interception. The Racers (0-7, 0-3 MVFC) went 0-for-3 in the red zone. Jim Ogle was 20-of-32 passing for 327 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions. Both of his touchdowns were long-range scores.   Chase Mason accounted for four touchdowns, Chase Van Tol had two sacks and an interception, and the South Dakota State defense forced five turnovers in a 31-3 rout of Northern Iowa on Saturday afternoon. Mason's first touchdown was a two-yard scramble on the other end of Northern Iowa's first turnover, a Matthew Schecklman interception by Isaiah Johnson. Schecklman was 12 of 20 with 120 yards passing. Aidan Dunne and Jaxon Dailey both threw interceptions.

Van Tol, Myles Green and Jalen B. Lee had the other interceptions for the Jackrabbits, with Cullen McShane forcing a fumble and Joe Ollman recovering it. Ollman had a team-high eight tackles, including one for a loss. It's the first time since October 2, 2021 that the FCS No. 2 Jackrabbits (6-0, 2-0 MVFC) have secured four interceptions in a game. Their defense allowed just 221 yards of total offense, and entered Saturday allowing 273 yards per game, the sixth-lowest mark in FCS football. Mason was 18-for-30 with 249 yards and two passing touchdowns, with his other two scores on the ground. He had -2 yards rushing on seven carries. Northern Iowa (2-4, 0-2) still leads 17-16 in the all-time series with South Dakota State, but its last win came in 2021. - AP College Football

  WEEK 6 MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK: OC Shane Willenbring, South Dakota State, R-Fr., La Crosse, Wis.,...Willenbring recorded a blocking assignment grade of 100 percent and did not allow a pressure or sack in South Dakota State's 35-30 victory at Youngstown State on Oct. 4. His first three attempts all traveled 50-plus yards (51, season-long 59 and 53), two of which pinned the Penguins inside their own 20-yard line. Two of his catches early in the third quarter covered 51 and 38 yards and set up the Jackrabbits' first two touchdowns of a 21-point stanza. Bullock's 162 receiving yards were the most by a Jackrabbit receiver since Jadon Janke tallied 187 yards in a 2023 game at Missouri State. - Missouri Valley Football

  Chase Mason threw three touchdown passes, James Basinger ran for two scores and South Dakota State jumped our early and rolled to a 51-7 victory over Mercyhurst on Saturday. South Dakota State (4-0), ranked second in the FCS coaches' poll, stretched its home winning streak to 32. Mason completed 21-of-29 passes for 321 yards. Grahm Goering led the Jackrabbits with seven receptions for 101 yards. Alex Bullock, Lofton O'Groske, and Jack Smith each had a touchdown catch. Basinger finished with 53 yards rushing on 15 carries.

Mason threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Bullock and then a 19-yarder to O'Groske to help stake the Jackrabbits to a 17-0 first-quarter lead. In the third quarter, Mason completed an 18-yard touchdown pass to Smith, and Basinger's 1-yard TD run made it 37-7 with about four minutes left. Basinger ended the scoring with another 1-yard run with about two minutes left to play. Adam Urena was 12-of-18 passing for 103 yards and he threw one touchdown pass and two interceptions for Mercyhurst (1-4). It was the first meeting between the teams. - AP College Football

  Julius Loughridge scored two of South Dakota State's four rushing touchdowns and the Jackrabbits defeated Drake 37-21 on Saturday night. South Dakota State, ranked No. 2 in the FCS coaches' poll, spotted Drake the first touchdown but Loughridge's TDs of 15 and 4 yards helped the Jackrabbits build a 28-10 lead with 11 minutes left in the third quarter. Two-time defending Pioneer Football League champion Drake bounced back with a short rushing score by QB Logan Inagawa to make it 28-18 midway through the third.

The Jackrabbits put the game away with Ryan Harrington's 39-yard field goal and a 5-yard touchdown run by Corey Blair Jr. The South Dakota State defense held Drake to just seven plays on two possessions between Inagawa's touchdown and a late drive that resulted in a short field goal with four seconds left. Chase Mason completed 18 of 25 passes for 225 yards with one touchdown for the Jackrabbits (3-0). Inagawa was 15-for-25 passing for 140 yards for the Bulldogs (1-1).   Chase Mason threw three touchdowns passes, including two in overtime, and FCS No. 2 South Dakota State defeated third-ranked Montana State 30-24 on Saturday night. The Jackrabbits (2-0) scored twice in three plays across the two overtime periods, and the defense held Montana State five yards short to complete the victory. In the first overtime, Mason found Jayden Oliver from two yards out for a score, but Montana State answered with a 2-yard rushing score from Adam Jones. And in the second overtime, Mason connected with Brayden Delahoyde on the first play of the drive.

Lofton O'Groske had 11 receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown, scoring in the fourth quarter for SDSU's second touchdown. Julius Loughridge had 83 yards rushing on 23 attempts. SDSU held Montana State to 5 for 15 on third downs and forced two turnovers. The Bobcats (0-2) were led by Justin Lamson's 96 yards rushing on 20 carries and one touchdown.   Julius Loughridge rushed for 159 yards on 22 carries and South Dakota State defeated Sacramento State 20-3 to give Dan Jackson a win in his collegiate head coaching debut on Saturday. Jackson returned to coach at his alma mater after serving as defensive coordinator at Idaho last season and led the Jackrabbits to their 30th consecutive home win, the longest active streak in the FCS. Sacramento State's Brennan Marion also made his collegiate head coaching debut. He was offensive coordinator at UNLV the past two seasons.

The Jackrabbits, ranked third in the coaches poll, outgained No. 14 Sacramento State 430-131, holding the Hornets to 24 yards rushing. Linebackers Cullen McShane had seven solo tackles and Chase Van Tol four. The Jackrabbits outgained the Hornets 299-74 in the opening half but were tied at 3-all after a first quarter in which they muffed a punt and lost another fumble while holding the Hornets to 3 yards offense. They got untracked in the second quarter, Chase Mason rolling out to hit Andrew Gustad with a 4-yard score and Lofton O'Groske scoring from 3 yards out on fourth down for a 17-3 halftime lead. Mason, a senior making his first career start, was 17-of-23 passing for 190 yards and a touchdown. Eli Stader kicked two field goals.   2023 ALL-MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM: OL Mason McCormick, South Dakota State, Sr.,...Both seniors, Garret Greenfield and Mason McCormick manned the left side of the offensive line at tackle and guard, respectively, helping pave the way for a Jackrabbit team that averaged 37.6 points per game. A native of Rock Valley, Iowa, Greenfield was named a first-team all-MVFC honoree for the third time.
