  Carson Gresock rushed for four touchdowns and Quasean Holmes added a 67-yard score as Gardner-Webb overpowered Lindenwood 48–20 on Saturday. Gresock found the end zone twice in the first quarter - from 3 and 20 yards out - to set the tone for the Runnin' Bulldogs. He added short touchdown runs in the second and third quarters, finishing with 119 yards on 21 carries. Holmes broke free for his own highlight, sprinting 67 yards late in the first half to give Gardner-Webb a 28–6 lead.

Cole Pennington completed 18 of 21 passes for 252 yards, including a 38-yard touchdown throw to Chris Lofton. The Bulldogs piled up 509 total yards, including 245 on the ground, and scored on eight of their 10 drives. Lindenwood (3–5, 2–2 OVC-Big South) kept things interesting with two field goals and a late first-half touchdown pass from Nate Glantz to Darrin Fugitt. Steve Hall led the Lions with 105 rushing yards and a 1-yard score. Kicker Charlie Viorel went 2 of 2 on field goals and 6-for-6 on extra points for Gardner-Webb (5–3, 3–1), which has now won five of its last six games and remains firmly in the OVC–Big South title hunt. - AP College Football

  Carson Gresock broke touchdown runs of 64 and 55 yards in the second quarter and Gardner-Webb scored all its points in the first half to beat Eastern Illinois 21-10 on Saturday. Gresock needed just six carries to pile up 137 yards, and quarterback Nate Hampton threw for 195 yards and a score for the Runnin' Bulldogs (4-2, 2-0 OVC–Big South). Gardner-Webb rolled up 446 total yards, including 251 on the ground, and held Eastern Illinois to 3.6 yards per play.

Hampton capped the opening drive with a 14-yard pass to Quasean Holmes late in the first quarter. Gresock's 64-yard burst early in the second doubled the lead, and he broke another long run for a 21-0 cushion midway through the quarter. Eastern Illinois (3-3, 2-1) got on the board with Drew Schiller's 42-yard field goal before halftime and trimmed the margin to 21-10 late in the third when Cole LaCrue scrambled 19 yards for a touchdown. But the Panthers' offense stalled the rest of the way, managing just 108 yards passing and one trip inside the red zone after the break. Anthony Lowe led Gardner-Webb with 93 yards on six catches, and the defense forced six punts while allowing only one play longer than 20 yards. - AP College Football

  WEEK 1 OVC-BIG SOUTH OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Nate Hampton, QB, Advance, N.C., Gardner-Webb,...Hampton accounted for 395 yards of total offense and six touchdowns (2 passing, 4 rushing) as Gardner-Webb overcame a 35-7 deficit to knock off No. 18/19 Western Carolina 52-45 (including outscoring the Catamounts 24-3 in the final quarter). It marked the biggest comeback in program history and was the first road victory for GWU over a nationally-ranked team since 2016. The transfer from Liberty had 263 yards passing, including touchdown passes of 18 yards and 36 yards.

On the ground he carried the ball 28 times for 132 yards (4.7 ypc); he had a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and added fourth quarter rushing touchdowns of 16, 7 and 26 yards, the final coming with 1:48 to play to put an exclamation point on the Runnin' Bulldogs victory.   Chris Lofton had a 67-yard receiving touchdown and Nate Hampton threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns and Gardner-Webb beat The Citadel, 23-13 on Saturday. The Runnin' Bulldogs are off to a 2-1 start under second-year head coach Cris Reiset after an 0-3 start last season. Quasean Holmes rushed for 90 yards on 17 carries, and Carson Gresock added 33 yards on six carries. Charlie Viorel connected on field goals from 26, 27, and 33 yards and was 2-for-2 on PAT attempts. Gardner-Webb took a 17-0 lead into the half after an 11-yard touchdown catch from Caleb Borders and Lofton's long grab. Gardner-Webb's defense had four total sacks and 10 tackles for loss, with Cahari Haynes registering nine total tackles. The Citadel (1-2) scored their first points late in the third quarter, as Sebastien Boyle scored his first collegiate touchdown on a two-yard rush.   Josiah Harris pulled down a game-sealing interception and Nate Hampton ran for a 26-yard touchdown to pull away late as Gardner Webb stormed back to beat Western Carolina 52-45 on Saturday evening in a season opener for both teams. The Runnin' Bulldogs were down 35-7 at one point, rallying down the stretch to upset FCS No. 19 Western Carolina. Isaac Lee opened at quarterback for Western Carolina, throwing for 82 yards on 3 of 9 passing and a touchdown before Bennett Judy took over and finished 15 of 27 with 151 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Gardner-Webb struck first on a 65-yard touchdown run by Quasean Holmes before the Catamounts fired back with 35 unanswered points. Nick Hampton scored twice for the Runnin' Bulldogs, but Western Carolina took a 35-21 lead into halftime. Nate Hampton finished 12 of 30 for 23 yards and two passing touchdowns for Gardner-Webb after replacing Cole Pennington, who went 1 of 3 with an interception. Hampton added 130 yards on the ground and four rushing touchdowns. Gaither has broken multiple school records this season, as the Rock Hill, S.C. native now has 3,147 career rushing yards, becoming just the second player in program history to rush for at least 3,000 yards. Gaither also has 104 career receptions, passing Philip Keefe for the most career pass receptions by a running back in Gardner-Webb history, while his eleven receiving touchdowns are the most in program history. Gaither's 924 career receiving yards are also the most by a running back in program history.
