  2019 AFCA FCS COACHES' FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: DB Greg Liggs Jr., Sr., Elon,...Setting a new Elon Division I record for single-season interceptions, Liggs finished his senior season with an FCS-best eight. He also finished his career in the maroon and gold as the Division I leader in interceptions with 15. A finalist for the 2019 Buck Buchanan Award watch list finishing 16th in the nation in national voting, Liggs was named a First Team All-CAA Football honoree after the campaign after earning Second Team honors in 2018. Throughout the year, the Greensboro, N.C., native had a pair of three-interception games against New Hampshire and Rhode Island and also intercepted Tom Flacco with 21 seconds to play in the season finale at No. 19 Towson to seal Elon's come-from-behind 25-23 victory. He closed the season with 49 tackles, marking the fifth-most on the team. - Elon Football

  2019 ALL-COLONIAL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION FIRST TEAM (COACHES): Greg Liggs, Jr., Elon, CB, Sr., Greensboro, N.C.,...A 2019 Buck Buchanan Award finalist for the nation's best FCS defensive player, Liggs led the nation in interceptions with eight during the regular season to set an Elon Division I program record for most interceptions in a campaign on the way to etching his name atop Elon's Division I career interception list with 15. A Second Team All-CAA Football honoree in 2018, Liggs was tabbed a Preseason All-American by Phil Steele this August while being named a Preseason All-CAA Football honorable mention. In being named a Buchanan Award finalist, Liggs is the third Elon athlete to earn the distinction, joining Warren Messer in 2017 and Chad Nkang in 2005 and 2006. - Elon Football

  2019 ALL-COLONIAL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION FIRST TEAM (COACHES): Matt Foster, Elon, TE, Sr., Williamsville, N.Y.,...Foster, a 2019 Preseason All-CAA Football honoree, posted 246 receiving yards for the year on 19 receptions with three touchdown grabs, setting career highs in all three categories. His output in 2019 tops his previous Division I program record for most receiving yards in a season by a tight end, beating his previous career high of 242 in 2017.

The Williamsville, N.Y., native played in 10 of Elon's 11 games and caught touchdowns against CAA foes Richmond, Delaware and William & Mary, each of which came in big situations. Against the Spiders and Blue Hens, his four- and 47-yard touchdown grabs, respectively, both put Elon up by margins of 14-0 on the way to big wins while his scoring catch against William & Mary came in the third extra session to tie the game and send it to the fourth period of a five overtime game on Homecoming. - Elon Football

  2019 ALL-COLONIAL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION SECOND TEAM (COACHES): Marcus Willoughby, Elon, DL, Sr., Durham, N.C.,...A Third Team All-CAA honoree in 2018 before moving up a team in 2019, Willoughby closed his career in maroon and gold setting new career highs across the board with 65 tackles - 32 solo stops - to go with 13.5 tackles for loss and 7.0 sacks. Within the conference, Willoughby's 7.0 sacks rank as the seventh-most and his 13.5 TFL is the 10th-best total in the league for the campaign. Throughout the year, he was named CAA Football and STATS FCS Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9 after his 14-tackle afternoon in the home opener against The Citadel, a game in which he helped the Elon defense hold the Bulldogs to just 156 rushing yards for the fewest in a game since its contest against No. 2 Clemson in 2017. - Elon Football

  Skyler Davis kicked field goals from 29-and 35-yards out in the fourth quarter, the second with 41 seconds remaining, to lift Elon to a 25-23 come-from-behind win over Towson in the season-finale Saturday afternoon. The loss snapped Towson's three-game win streak and may have dashed the Tigers' hopes of an at-large bid into the FCS playoffs. Tom Flacco threw two touchdown passes to put the Tigers (7-5, 4-4 Colonial Athletic Association) up, 14-0 after one, and after the teams traded second-quarter field goals the lead stood at 17-3 at intermission.

Flacco was sacked in the end zone for a safety on the Tigers' first possession of the second half. Davis Cheek and Joey Baughman each threw third-quarter touchdown passes as Elon (5-6, 4-4) cut its deficit to just a point, 20-19 heading into the fourth quarter. Aidan O'Neill kicked his third field goal of the game, this one from 44-yards out, to push Towson's lead to four, 23-19. Davis cut the lead to one with his 29-yard field goal with 7:09 left. The Phoenix drove 56 yards in nine plays to set up his game-winner. - AP College Football

  2019 BUCK BUCHANAN AWARD WATCHLIST ADDITION: DB Greg Liggs Jr., Elon,...A Greensboro, N.C., native enjoying the best year of his career in maroon and gold, Liggs leads the nation in interceptions with seven. All of his interceptions have come in Elon's last four games, recording three apiece in road games at New Hampshire on Oct. 5 and at Rhode Island on Oct. 26. Liggs has also recorded 42 tackles on the season with a career-high 12 of them coming last time out against William & Mary.

A Preseason Third Team Phil Steele All-American and All-CAA Football honorable mention this year, Liggs earned Second Team All-CAA Football honors after the 2018 campaign when he intercepted four passes and had 13 passes defended. Previously, Warren Messer was a finalist for the honor in 2017 and earned a place on the watch list one season later in 2018.   OCT 28 CAA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Greg Liggs, Jr., Sr., DB, Elon (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford),...Liggs tied his own Elon record with three interceptions in a 38-13 win at Rhode Island. The senior's second pickoff was returned 31 yards to the 3-yard line, setting up a TD that gave the Phoenix a 24-13 lead. Elon held URI's 5th-ranked passing offense to a season-low 211 yards. It was the second time this month that Liggs has had three interceptions in a game, and his seven pickoffs for the season are an Elon record and the most in FCS.   Joey Baughman had just four carries in the game with two of those going for touchdowns as Elon took control in the third quarter to roll over Rhode Island 38-13 to grab its second straight win on Saturday. Elon (4-4, 3-2 CAA), which topped Delaware 42-7 two weeks ago to halt a three-game skid, was up 7-6 at the break before scoring 28 unanswered points to take a 38-13 lead in the fourth quarter. Baughman scored on a 3-yard option play late in the third and opened the scoring in the final quarter with a 67-yard scoring sprint to go ahead 31-13. De'Sean McNair rushed 17 times for 85 yards and one TD and Davis Cheek threw for 148 yards and a score for Elon. Greg Liggs Jr. picked off three Rhode Island passes. The junior was a perfect 13-for-13 in the second half the Phoenix scored TD's on its final four possessions to pull away.   Davis Cheek threw a career-high five touchdown passes to five different receivers, Shamari Wingard returned a kickoff 96 yards for a score and Elon beat Richmond 42-20 on Saturday in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams. Cheek hit Cole Taylor on a 28-yard TD pass on Elon's opening 75-yard drive and capped its second with a 4-yard scoring toss to Matt Foster. His 11-yard pass to Boyson Daughtry made it 28-7 and he hit Kortez Weeks on a 53-yarder and Avery Jones on a 10-yarder in the third quarter. Cheek was 18 of 30 for 234 yards and Weeks gained 125 yards on eight catches as the Phoenix (2-1) outgained the Spiders 421-384.

Richmond's Beau English scored on an 8-yard run and backup Joe Mancuso threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Keyston Fuller and an 8-yarder to Isaac Brown. The Spiders (1-2) threatened late, reaching the Elon 6 after Fuller's 66-yard pass reception and run, but were stopped on downs with 6:49 to play. Mancuso was 11 of 16 for 234 yards passing with an interception and Fuller gained 208 yards on seven receptions. - AP College Football
