Backup offensive lineman Cade Briggs, who played in two games last season, was removed from the Texas Tech roster on Tuesday. Briggs needed to leave the team for personal reasons, a Tech athletics spokesman said. The senior from Las Vegas, Nevada, transferred to Tech last year from New Mexico. Briggs started 24 games for the Lobos, the last 19 at left tackle. He was a backup at center and guard for the Red Raiders. Those were Briggs' first four years in college football, so he has two seasons left, counting the Covid-bonus year the NCAA awards players who were on rosters during the disrupted 2020 season. - Lubbock Avalanche Journal

Former Oklahoma Sooners EDGE Clayton Smith announced his transfer to Arizona State on Thursday. Smith was a five-star recruit by Rivals and a four-star prospect by 247Sports and ESPN, making him the highest-ranked player to transfer to ASU via the portal. Arizona just missed out on landing another five-star recruit in EDGE Anthony Lucas on Jan. 11, but the Scottsdale Chapparal High School graduate chose to transfer from Texas A&M to USC instead of staying home.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound redshirt sophomore will have three years of eligibility as he joins a Sun Devil football program that is now under new leadership with head coach Kenny Dillingham at the helm. In seven career games over the last two seasons at Oklahoma, Smith accumulated eight tackles (four solo and four assisted) and 1.5 tackles for loss to go along with one fumble recovery. - ArizonaSports.com

Arizona State Sun Devils defensive lineman Nesta Jade Silvera on Saturday accepted his invitation to play in the 2023 Senior Bowl. Silvera becomes the first Sun Devil to be playing in the exhibition game at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Alabama, on Feb. 4 in front of NFL scouts. The 6-foot-2, 315-pound defensive lineman announced his declaration for April's draft in Kansas City on Dec. 13.

Silvera spent the first four years of his collegiate career as a Miami Hurricane before graduating and transferring to Arizona State for his lone season in Tempe. In 10 games for the Sun Devils this past season, the graduate student totaled 51 tackles (18 solo), three tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, two passes defensed and one forced fumble. - Arizonasports.com

Travion Brown, a veteran Washington State defender who shared first-team snaps at middle linebacker this year, has entered the NCAA's transfer portal, according to multiple reports Friday. A graduate transfer, Brown has one season of eligibility remaining. He never used his redshirt at WSU. The 6-foot-3, 230-pounder played in 11 games this season, starting two. He and redshirt freshman Francisco Mauigoa rotated frequently at the middle linebacker position. Brown finished the regular season sixth on the team with 49 tackles, adding five tackles for loss, 1½ sacks and a fumble recovery.

Brown came to WSU in 2019 out of Linfield Christian School of Temecula, California, as a three-star recruit and a top-20 outside linebacker in the country, per 247Sports.com. He chose the Cougars over offers from Washington, Oregon, Utah and Minnesota, among others, and claimed a playing role at WSU immediately. Brown made five starts at nickel during his true freshman season and earned All-Pac-12 second-team recognition for his special-teams exploits. He played sparingly in 2020, then established himself as a backup option at linebacker in 2021 and saw plenty of action off the bench behind mainstay LB Justus Rogers. Brown finishes his WSU career with 39 appearances, 132 tackles, 7½ TFLs, 1½ sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. - Spokesman-Review

The Oregon Ducks are losing an offensive lineman to transfer. Redshirt-freshman Bram Walden is entering the transfer portal, he announced Saturday. "I just want to thank the University of Oregon for making my experience for these last 2 years and I'll always be grateful for this opportunity," Walden wrote via Instagram. "I want to thank all of the coaches, players, my family, friends and faculty that have made my time here truly special. I want to thank the man above for always having a plan for me and allowing me to be where I am today. "With that being said, I am entering the transfer portal and I'm looking forward to furthering my academic and athletic career. Thank you! Go Ducks!" Walden battled a knee injury during his two seasons at UO. He did not play while redshirting in 2021 and appeared in two games this season, against Cal and Colorado. 2022 ALL-BIG SKY FIRST TEAM: RB Cameron Skattebo (SAC),...Skattebo is the third Sacramento State player to earn Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year following running back Charles Roberts (1998, 1999) and quarterback Kevin Thomson (2019). Skattebo was also named to the all-Big Sky first team after a season in which he rushed for 1,251 yards. The sophomore also caught 24 passes for 281 yards and finished the year with nine total touchdowns (5 rushing, 3 receiving, 1 kick return). He had seven 100-yard games during the season, including a season high 201 at Eastern Washington. The Rio Linda, Calif., native is currently sixth in school single season history for rushing yards and is second with an average of 7.41 yards per carry. Trenton Bourguet threw for 435 yards and three touchdowns, all of which went to tight end Jalin Conyers, and Xazavian Valladay ran for three touchdowns as Arizona State racked up 557 total yards and held off a late push for a 42-34 victory against Colorado on Saturday night. The Sun Devils (3-5, 2-3 Pac-12) scored a touchdown on each of their first two drives, going a combined 139 yards in 15 plays. Bourguet completed his first nine passes for 161 yards. On its way to a 28-17 halftime lead, an Arizona State offense that entered the night averaging 353.6 yards had put up 327 while averaging 8.4 yards per play. It finished the game with 10 plays of at least 20 yards.

Despite allowing those gaudy offensive numbers, Colorado (1-7, 1-4) remained competitive for much of the first half. On a third-and-12 late in the second quarter, Buffaloes quarterback J.T. Shrout found freshman wide receiver Jordyn Tyson in stride for a 58-yard touchdown to get within 21-17. The Sun Devils, however, responded with a nine-play, 75-yard drive, capped by a 1-yard touchdown plunge from Valladay. Arizona State led by at least 15 points for much of the second half, but an 88-yard punt return for a touchdown from Tyson got Colorado within 42-34 with 3:50 remaining. The Sun Devils were able to mount a seven-play, 36-yard drive that ran out the clock. Trenton Bourguet threw for three touchdowns after Emory Jones was injured, Xazavian Halladay accounted for two more scores and Arizona State beat No. 21 Washington 45-38 on Saturday for interim coach Shaun Aguano's first victory. The Sun Devils (2-4, 1-2 Pac-12) lost their first two games after Herm Edwards was fired Sept. 18, though played No. 6 Southern California close last week before fading late. Bourguet adeptly led the offense after Jones was injured in the second quarter against Washington, throwing for 182 yards on 15-of-21 passing with an interception. He hit Elijhah Badger for two touchdowns, including a 2-yarder in the fourth quarter to put the Sun Devils up 45-38. Arizona State stopped the Huskies on fourth-and-9 near midfield and a botched snap all but ended the Washington's final drive.

Washington (4-2, 1-2) had a solid offensive day in the desert, rallying from a 14-point deficit to tie it on Cameron Davis' third rushing TD, from 5 yards out. Michael Penix Jr. threw for 311 yards on 33-of-53 passing, but no touchdowns. The Huskies struggled defensively in last week's loss to UCLA and continued to have breakdowns against the Sun Devils to remain winless in Tempe since 2001 (eight games). Bourguet, a three-year backup, was sharp after Jones took a shot to the head in the second quarter from Washington safety Asa Turner, who was ejected for targeting. Halladay scored on an 11-yard run the next play and Bourget followed with a 14-yard TD pass to Halladay, throwing to the flat with a blitzing defender in his face. Arizona State went up 24-10 when Penix had a pass deflected at the line of scrimmage and Jordan Clark intercepted it for a 38-yard touchdown. Jake Dunniway threw two touchdown passes, Cameron Skattebo scored three TDs, and Sacramento State beat Cal Poly 49-21 Saturday night for the Hornets seventh consecutive road win. The Hornets, ranked No. 5 in the FCS coaches poll, have not yet trailed in a game this season and have won 12 regular-season games in a row, dating to last season. Dunniway completed 16 of 22 passes for 246 yards with an interception and Skattebo ran 10 times for 82 yards and two touchdowns and his 16-yard touchdown reception gave the Hornets a 21-0 lead with 5 minutes left in the second quarter. Asher O'Hara, who started at quarterback but split time with Dunniway, was 7-of-11 passing for 91 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown pass to Justin Gipson, and added 13 carries for 68 yards and a TD for Sacramento State (4-0, 1-0 Big Sky). He left it briefly but returned and finished out the contest but did not practice Tuesday with his spot on the first team defense taken by Keon Markham.
