  01/07/23 - QB Jason BeanrSr/2024, Kansas

Two words. "I'm back." Athletes have used them before. They'll continue to use them. And they're how Jason Bean chose to punctuate a video he posted on Instagram on Friday to reveal his decision to return to Kansas football for the 2023 season, which will be the quarterback's last at the college level. But more than what it means for Bean's own career, which started at North Texas in 2018 and took him to Kansas in 2021, it provides the Jayhawks with a level of quarterback depth that teams across the Big 12 will likely find enviable. Bean has extensive experience as a starter to complement what Jalon Daniels already brings to that room for Kansas. And although Bean's win-loss record as a starter might understandably give some a degree of pause, he's still played a significant role in the program's rebuild that coach Lance Leipold is leading.

The most recent memory of Bean's play for fans is the failed two-point conversion that sealed the Jayhawks' fate in their Liberty Bowl loss last month against Arkansas. But that moment doesn't define his legacy to date at Kansas. Bean will forever be the quarterback who led the Jayhawks to the win that earned them bowl eligibility for the first time in over a decade this past season. Bean stuck with Kansas even though he lost the starting job to Daniels in 2021 after suffering an injury in his ninth start in what was an arduous 2-10 season. - Topeka Capital Journal
